mrcarlosrendon··on Married to someone with anxiety
Thanks for sharing. I think its important to discuss mental health issues openly. They have a huge impact on our lives and are quite common (NAMI says 1 in 5), yet we tend as a society to shy away from talking about it and tend to have strange beliefs (they are just a negative person, they should just get over it, their thoughts will be contagious). I think many people never get the help they need because they aren't aware that help even exists.

" A good therapist is a good therapist, male or female, and a mediocre one is a mediocre one." - I disagree. As a male, I would prefer to see a male if possible as I would feel they could better understand and relate to men's issues. It's similar to how my wife prefers to see a female doctor.

"2. You can remember their past behavior" I think this is a big missing piece. Sure in many communities I can kinda look up their past behavior, but it is not easy.

I would be good to know if this person: 1. Adds to the discussion 2. Has skin in the game

Systems like karma/points/votes kind of address these, but they aren't perfect.

His face looks great. I think you can see his age in his arm skin.

Well just imagine how poor you would feel with just the median household income of 50k (2011 US Census) or worse and you were the bottom 20% making <=25k.

He starts at the beginning with math and works his way up. Your average IT/programmer guy will probably not have read this book, but it covers all the basics. Think of it as a replacement for a CS degree or at least the lower division courses.

Would you agree that "very low food security" translates to "hunger"? If so then the number is close to 1 in 18. In my opinion this is still a high number.

From your link, of those that reported "very low food security":

96 percent reported that an adult had cut the size of meals or skipped meals because there was not enough money for food.

89 percent reported that this had occurred in 3 or more months.

95 percent of respondents reported that they had eaten less than they felt they should because there was not enough money for food.

68 percent of respondents reported that they had been hungry but did not eat because they could not afford enough food.

47 percent of respondents reported having lost weight because they did not have enough money for food.

29 percent reported that an adult did not eat for a whole day because there was not enough money for food.

23 percent reported that this had occurred in 3 or more months.

Sure they may be getting some food, but just barely. "...for 1 in 6 people in the United States, hunger is a reality" "These are often hard-working adults, children and seniors who simply cannot make ends meet and are forced to go without food for several meals, or even days" http://feedingamerica.org/hunger-in-america/hunger-facts.asp...
