mrarjen··on iPhones are hard to use
The only article i could find with her name (if it's her at all)... but nothing regarding why! I'm also rather curious now. https://blog.fawny.org/2013/07/02/transphobia-lexicography/
mrarjen··on Sunshine Helps Kill Germs Indoors
Apparently the dishwashers aren't great for bowls and other dishes used primarily in China.

Plus they love to wash dishes with boiling hot water.

mrarjen··on How and Why Silicon Valley Gets High
Thanks for sharing, I'll look into this one as well. And researching these drugs is rather interesting, there has only been very limited papers due to bans on active substances.

Also channels like: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCvRQKXtIGcK1yEnQ4Te8hWQ are interesting to see people take these substances, but still everyone can have different effects from the same thing.

mrarjen··on How and Why Silicon Valley Gets High
This is a rather flat article that doesn't go into the whole thing properly. And it has a rather anti drugs hint to it, if anyone wants to know some more about drugs from users/expert, who have a normal constructive conversation, i'd recommend this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HM8WDZIhs3M
mrarjen··on Space Is Full of Planets, and Most of Them Don't Even Have Stars
Exactly, and I saw that when the Andromeda Galaxy collides with ours, it's unlikely many planets/systems will be colliding with one another.
mrarjen··on Charging electric scooters is a cut-throat business
I think some better vetting of hunters and maybe capping the amount of people for area's to hunt for them would be a start? Seems now it's a wild west when it comes to who gets at them first.
mrarjen··on John Carmack: My Steve Jobs Stories
Reminds me a bit of the outer world experience of walking around GDC, where you'd see the big names just wandering around. Talking with lots of big names like Dustin Browder, Tim Schafer and Noah Falstein. Always a delight talking and hearing experiences of these people. Perhaps one day I'll meet Carmack.
mrarjen··on Boston Dynamics will start selling its dog-like SpotMini robot in 2019
My guess as well, the R&D that has gone into this would certainly allow it to be that much. But once it's out in the open I'm sure some people will take it apart and hopefully we will see easier (cheaper) ways of recreating it DIY style.
mrarjen··on Rare wooden escalators lead down into a staggeringly monotonous tiled tunnel
I went down this tunnel once, the escalators were out of action unfortunately, so a big lift was used instead. It's surprising how spacious it is down there, and ideal for biking down the tunnel.
mrarjen··on I was a corporate restaurant consultant
This article is mainly about the science of convincing the client on updating their menu, the tactical "telling the client what they just told you" strategy doesn't work in this field.
mrarjen··on I switched from iPhone to the Pixel 2: One-week report
I too have used iPhone for the entire smartphone trend so far, and I have been considering getting the Pixel 2 as well, mainly since I keep getting locked out of apple accounts, having weird issues on my device with every new iOS update and the fact I'm basically 99% Google eco system now also with Google photo's, things just seem to work far better and with less friction on Google.

I was afraid of the bad quality devices from the past android days, but so far from what I have seen the Pixel seems to hold up.

mrarjen··on Ask HN: Has anyone switched from being a night owl to being a morning person?
Yes, I used to also work optimally during the night. Then I started to actively go to the Gym at 7AM, this took about 6 months to fully get used to, but now I go to bed around 10/11PM and feel much more active during the day. Even in the weekends.

Depending where you are located, I can recommend some weed oil to kind of force yourself to sleep, take it one hour before you want to sleep and you will have a hard time staying awake.

mrarjen··on New A.I. application can write its own code
Yea, rather disappointed with yet another "no information" article to point out a url.
mrarjen··on A rundown of the new Gmail
This reminds me I still need to get rid of some 3k+ emails in my inbox... thanks Google!
mrarjen··on Chart of the Milky Way Includes More Than 1B Stars
It's fairly unimaginable almost to a human, even our own tiny solar system in comparison is gigantic...

This video is a really good example of how to sort of wrap your head around just that: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kj4524AAZdE

mrarjen··on How to avoid getting stuck with the middle seat on a Ryanair flight
That EU261 is great yes, TBH I have earned money on the last 3 flights I have taken thanks to this system. All of those were long distance and had delays between 10 and 15 hour. It somewhat compensates for the lost time.
mrarjen··on How to avoid getting stuck with the middle seat on a Ryanair flight
Flights I had on Ryanair are merely 1 or max 2 hours long, (not taking the driving up and down the runways in account) and for this period of time some discomfort is perfectly fine.
mrarjen··on Walking While Black
Exactly, having anyone expand their hacker bubble and see the world in new ways.
mrarjen··on The limits of information (2014)
The information will still be mainly stored on servers... That tiny little chip just needs some connectivity to reach it when it's needed.
mrarjen··on How to build a house alone [video]
Love watching these things, also when people build their own house and someone asks them, how did you build it. They answer, "Just watched how to do it on youtube".
mrarjen··on Tokyo and Hong Kong in 2018
"Internet connectivity is far ahead of Europe"

You mean Germany? And I agree German infrastructure can use quite the upgrade, it's 3/4G is pretty patchy and internet speeds lacking.

mrarjen··on Ask HN: What's a good response to “It's fine, I've got nothing to hide online”?
This always works best yes, up until a person doesn't mind and you get to see things you rather not.
mrarjen··on North and South Korea reportedly set to announce official end to war
Some forms of modernization has been going on for years now, but mainly in the shadows as it's all rather illegal. But a peace would certainly help speed up this process hopefully, let's see how this will go.

mrarjen··on Russia Bans 1.8M Amazon and Google IPs in Attempt to Block Telegram
That's quite a lot, It be funny to see how far this will go with Telegram still functional.
mrarjen··on To Make Cordial Pepper Water
Reminds me of feeding black licorice "Drop" to non Dutch people, make sure napkins or a trash can is nearby for them to spit it back out.
mrarjen··on Science says liberals, not conservatives, are psychotic (2016)
For a second there I was worried I gone crazy, thanks for confirming I am. :)
mrarjen··on Tesla’s response to getting maps updates over LTE or service center WiFi
Maybe support an old school USB stick that let's the user download it on a pc and stick it to their car?
mrarjen··on Credit Card Signatures Are About to Become Extinct in the U.S
Every time I'm in Germany I'm baffled that they use signatures quite often in order to pay... basically copying the signature that's on their cards. It's quite silly as when you'd steal someones card you'd pretty much just be able to use it to pay for things, given you can copy a signature.

It's quite the contract with the Netherlands, but then again about 10 or so years ago I wasn't able to identically copy my signature and was unable to get a new bank card... luckily I didn't have this issue online filling out a form.

mrarjen··on Coinbase Ventures
- Power consumption - Media headlines - Gambling and guess the security aspect is kinda neat, but feels like this needs to evolve quite a bit more first. Future still looks interesting.
mrarjen··on Why are diapers so expensive?
Sometimes it's not even about paying more taxes, it's mainly about how the money is distributed back into society. People like this lady are in an awkward spot where opportunities and benefits are rather low.

Not saying everything is fixed with tossing more money at it, simply setting priorities and building value for more people without always looking at the short term profits. And in some countries perhaps closing questionable cash flows towards those who clearly are benefiting unnecessarily.
