mr337··on Court Ruling Could Affect the Future Direction of DAOs
I have been out of the loop of DAO and how they are organized and manage changes. My first explaining of that was in Folding Ideas part of Decentraland [1]. The DAO portion did not look so good.

So still trying to figure out if this is just a phase or there is some legitimacy to a DAO.

mr337··on Ask HN: Who is hiring? (April 2023)
I'm getting something similar, Error 405: Unsupported method
mr337··on Tailscale Funnel now available in beta
Yup, in the same boat. Don't need google to decide on a whim that my account is odd and lock me out and thus all the access to my devices.
mr337··on I made $3k in 16 attempts to launch my SaaS
I think this is a good idea. If there are a products there means money to be made and I think you found that out in a good way! Next step is to figure out what you can do different to start capturing market share, and turn that into captured revenue.
mr337··on FCC orders phone companies to block scam text messages
I am in the same boat and we are transitioning to dump SMS all together. What a headache to ditch.
mr337··on Is something wrong with Amazon Photos? I lost 240k photos
And packaged as a docker container to run daily, weekly, or monthly backups. https://github.com/boredazfcuk/docker-icloudpd
mr337··on Bad Projection Is Ruining the Movie Theater Experience
Ha, that is what I was thinking. It would have to be really bad to be concerned about it.
mr337··on Nix journey part 0: Learning and reference materials
Not for sure if you are working on SD card based things but this might get you half way there. We do this for loading RPIs https://github.com/Robertof/nixos-docker-sd-image-builder
mr337··on Pandas 2.0 and the Arrow revolution
This sounds very neat, time to look into DuckDB.
mr337··on PayPal Fees Are Insane
Agreed, I know Wise keeps getting mentioned but they are very expensive. Seems like every 1-2 months they also restructure/tweak their pricing as well.
mr337··on QGIS is the mapping software you didn't know you needed
I was just thinking the other day of writing a QGIS plugin for handle GNSS data from ROS. Like rviz but more aligned for out application. Very cool!
mr337··on Ask HN: Fake Job Candidates?
I was thinking the same thing. Unless you know the situation of the employee, working to get them fired from both jobs can seriously put them in a bad financial position + loss of benefits, especially medical benefits. If they aren't happy with that just terminate employment. To go after them to get terminated from both jobs is just being an asshole.

> We applaud low income service workers who bust their butts working multiple jobs (often 40 hours each) to make ends meet, but when it comes to office workers getting a second job, that's taboo. Doesn't make sense.

Hit the nail on the head!

mr337··on Theory-building and why employee churn is lethal to software companies
That does sound horrid. Makes green field projects look ever more so nice.
mr337··on Ask HN: What sub $200 product improved your 2022
Not the OP but I am really happy with the IKEA Tradfri blinds [1].Every night at dark they close all the rooms so I don't feel like living in fish bowl. 30 minutes past sunrise they all open. Best investment ever.

For the more technical they are Zigbee and heard all of IKEA zigbee stuff works without the hub. I personally have had issues with HomeAssistant and Tradfri integration so just use the IKEA app and the hub with no issues for over 6mo now.

mr337··on Tell HN: As a dev, Slack has ruined my life
I would like to add a 7.5 is possible. Run slack in a browser and disable tab notifications. The app is so jarring when it comes to stealing attention. The most I get in the browser is the favicon will have a little red dot. I miss it most of the times which is a perfect balance for catching up on slack and getting things done.
mr337··on DontBuyDell.com
100% agree. I have one of the XPS13 Dev that doesn't deep sleep properly which is supposed to have first class support for sleeping. Yes it does sleep but kills the entire battery in a few hours.

Dell won't fix it https://www.dell.com/community/XPS/XPS-13-9310-Ubuntu-deep-s...

mr337··on Textual TUI framework for Python adds CSS renderer
I just wrapped up an internal TUI utility for interfacing with physical hardware. I was really happy with the output until I saw this... Now I got to rework it with the new UI. Very nice work!
mr337··on Identity management for WireGuard
So far doesn't look like it unless you go the MDM route, which I guess is aimed mainly at enterprise users.

mr337··on "The Social Network" synth sounds
Wow, this is fantastic!
mr337··on The shortest pull request ever
Wow, this is pretty nifty and I would, nor would the program authors thing of that use case :D
mr337··on What it takes to make a game by yourself
The Mathematics StackExchange reference gave me a chuckle.[1]

mr337··on Some WFH employees now live in another country
Yeah, this whole bit is really confusing. Some states have tax agreements as well. I think Illinois and Arkansas has an agreement.

Also eyeballing CA as they send us one of those mean letters you speak of. That was "fun" to sort out.

mr337··on Ask HN: Who is using C++ as the main language for new project?
Working in robotics with ROS2. Python for simple stuff and C++ for everything else.
mr337··on Nix: Taming Unix with Functional Programming
This is fantastic reading and never really through to use nix for a router.
mr337··on EVs cost 22% less to service than ICE cars, new data shows
Agree with this. This thread also mentioned the early Nissan Leaf, and exact same thing happened, a new cottage industry popped up to support rebuilds and even further range increase.
mr337··on Ask HN: Meal Planning App?
I use Tandoor [2], and open source meal planning software. It is fully open source and be hosted in many ways including docker etc.

If you don't want to bother with self hosting they offer hosting plans as well [1].

mr337··on Ask HN: Have You Left Kubernetes?
I didn't know they were trying to be like CDK. Now I have to look this up :)
mr337··on Ask HN: Have You Left Kubernetes?
We are big users of terraform. I couldn't imaging running our setup without it or some other tooling like CDK.
mr337··on Ask HN: Have You Left Kubernetes?
I have settled on the ECS camp as well. Took a run at Kubernetes and was blown away by the complexity. With ECS/Fargate I don't spend any time on it. It just works for our setup.

I still wonder from time to time if I am missing something not going Kubernetes.

mr337··on CircleCI Announces Support for Gitlab
I've seen some projects where the Circle CI costs are more expensive than hosting.
