mosdl··on The North Korean fake IT worker problem is ubiquitous
Wouldn't the issue be that an interview center could take money to lie/etc? When I start a job I would have to go through I-9 verification - if that process is not good enough to weed out fakes, how would another verification work better?
mosdl··on Tell HN: My 3 competitors are all super polished companies run by solo devs
And first mover usually requires a lot of money to secure (ads, etc) so basically the person who gets the most vc or is already rich will win.
mosdl··on Tell HN: My 3 competitors are all super polished companies run by solo devs
Once the person makes their 100m company, 10 competitors will undercut them by using AI to duplicate the work.
mosdl··on JavaScript Trademark Update
It was livescript originally.
mosdl··on JavaScript Trademark Update
The name, it was originally going to be called Livescript.
mosdl··on The time is right for a DOM templating API
Quite common, lots of old software that is custom written lives on, be it java apps, old vb stuff, etc
mosdl··on The time is right for a DOM templating API
I miss mozilla's XUL language (and XBL!), those were awesome.
mosdl··on Federal judge rules copyrighted books are fair use for AI training
There is a big difference between the public able to read the books vs using them build a commercial product. Especially if that product will be used to generate commercial work that competes with your work.
mosdl··on Man 'refused entry into US' as border control catch him with bald JD Vance meme
Take out the sim and say the phone has no internet connection
mosdl··on Largest Wildlife Bridge Spanning 10 Lanes of CA 101 Is Nearly Complete
Bridge in earthquake zone vs an intersection is a great comparison!
mosdl··on Ask HN: Tips for hiring? It has been difficult
As in everything, there are good recruiters and bad ones. I know several good ones who've gotten me good interviews - perhaps ask anyone on your team if they know any and consider using them.
mosdl··on Tesla Robotaxi launch is a dangerous game of smoke and mirrors
A great quote and applies to a lot of things
mosdl··on ZjsComponent: A Pragmatic Approach to Reusable UI Fragments for Web Development
Seems to be taking how old frameworks used to work in the old days (download some html/js and run in an closure) and wraps it into webcomponents. Neat, but not sure why its a paper.
mosdl··on I Convinced HP's Board to Buy Palm for $1.2B. I Watched Them Kill It in 49 Days
From what I heared (I had some popular webos apps) the touchpad hardware was forced by HP onto the webos team.
mosdl··on Microsoft Office migration from Source Depot to Git
It was a great tool for losing changes!
mosdl··on Android 16 is here
Android is a different beast since OEMs highly customize the UX. Samsung could easily make a horrible liquid glass ripoff and stick it on Android without Google doing anything.

Most of Google's work on Android seems to be around making smaller changes for the UX and bigger internal changes (splitting up the OS so individual parts can be updated without the OEM involvement, security changes, etc).

mosdl··on Apple introduces a universal design across platforms
Seems overly distracting, and not a lot of contrast.
mosdl··on How we’re responding to The NYT’s data demands in order to protect user privacy
They only care about rights when it helps them.
mosdl··on How we’re responding to The NYT’s data demands in order to protect user privacy
Its funny that OpenAI is complaining, they don't mind saying copyright doesn't apply to them if it makes them money.
mosdl··on Tesla seeks to guard crash data from public disclosure
Happened in north carolina, but the incident is still being investigated according to the relative who is still in the hospital (luckily only major bruising, nothing broken, subarus are really good at rolling safety it turns out).
mosdl··on Ask HN: Best way to get laid off
Depending on where you live there are laws around vacation time. Or perhaps ask for a raise/promotion.
mosdl··on Tesla seeks to guard crash data from public disclosure
Wife has a relative who was just (this weekend) in a major accident where a tesla ran into them and pushed their a ditch where it rolled a few times. Initial report says the Tesla was in self drive mode. Will be interesting to see who was at fault here but so far it is not looking good for Tesla.
mosdl··on OpenAI slams court order to save all ChatGPT logs, including deleted chats
That's OpenAI's issue, not the court.
mosdl··on Louisiana lawmakers push 'chemtrail' ban legislation through the House
The problem is they vote for the worst type of legislators
mosdl··on Silicon Valley finally has a big electronics retailer again: Micro Center opens
We had a Microcenter that closed in 2012, took them that long to return.
mosdl··on California has got good at building giant batteries
Here in sv there are quite a lot of them...
mosdl··on If AI Can't Code It, It's Already Dead
The LLMs already have trouble with basic react features like hooks, so that bodes poorly.
mosdl··on AI can't even fix a simple bug – but sure, let's fire engineers
I haven't seen code quality improve much over the past year, in fact some things like react hooks I've seen them get worse at.
mosdl··on Stack Overflow is almost dead
AI just stole all its content, I wonder if they will choose to sue.
mosdl··on Ask HN: What's a good system to remember to wear my reading glasses at my desk?
Start an AI startup that uses your camera to check if you have them on and raise $20 million.
