morkalork··on Trump administration is suspending Microsoft from a green card program
Plenty of tech workers in Canada and LATAM in the same time zones
morkalork··on SynthID Detector
And there lies the rub. You can't verify if they do or don't embed such content. These companies are just like "trust me bro".
morkalork··on Pixel 11 doesn't yet meet the GrapheneOS security standards and may be skipped
Also reminiscent of iirc Intel's choke hold on companies like Dell that froze out AMD
morkalork··on Infidel goes wild
I'm definitely guilty of writing some sick memory-trashjng bugs when I was first getting started as an intern. The best one had my team lead and a staff engineer puzzling over what the hell was going on. The second best one had someone hunting down my email and messaging me months after the internship ended just to cuss me out haha. Perhaps it is better I don't work in C anymore.
morkalork··on Former SR-71 engineer talks NASA's Blackbird revival program
Well there's a whole lot of ocean one doesn't need to be stealth to fly over but really, your comments read like endless goal-post shifting from someone who has a preferred solution in mind and is working backwards to justify it. Also the SR-71 was never stealth, only reduced observability. The USSR was very aware of the overflights taking place.

morkalork··on On social reality in China
The bit about why one would want to be a doctor. Money, status, approval... helping sick people (hysterical laughter). Is exactly how my millenial Chinese colleagues that came to North America to study in university are like.
morkalork··on Everyone's Packing Up
All those big platforms have to say:

Pack it up, pack it in, let me begin

I came to win, battle me, that's a sin

I won't ever slack up, punk, ya better back up!

morkalork··on Frog and Toad and the Increasingly Capable Machines
Reading about Frog and Toad making little thinking machines is a lot like Trurl and Klapaucius in Cyberiad
morkalork··on Don't be fooled–LLMs don't reason
Suppose you put an LLM in a "inference -> observe -> retrain weights" loop.
morkalork··on Singapore govt dating app uses Gale-Shapley stable marriage algorithm
The OkCupid guys figured out that it was (potential) that best predicted stable relationships and everything else was just a proxy for that feature. Similar/compatible education level? Just a proxy for income. Similar/compatible hobbies? Guess what, also a proxy for income!
morkalork··on NASA asked several former SR-71A staffers to help secret restart
Well there's also the X-37B Orbital "Test Vehicle" that performs some long-run missions. Satellite warfare? Observation instrument tests? Who knows!
morkalork··on US Forces Exit Iraq
4,500 Americans and how many civilians?
morkalork··on Kids turned low-traffic NPR Spotify comments into a secret group chat

What's the meme about Google products and chat features?
morkalork··on So long Google, and thanks for all the nudes
The part where the author is aware that any missteps in "debugging" the review process can get their account permabanned is lovely. I'm sure I've read cases here before where a developer has lost all their emails and family photos because their policies.
morkalork··on When did Google get so weird?
When I was in grade 8 and 9 in public school, we'd got a couple random lessons in the library on the computers learning to search online databases and catalogues. For most of us it was our introduction to keyword matching and boolean logic. Sadly, instead of continuing teaching, services have instead phased out those basic operators and here we are. We also learned to make websites using Pagemaker and edit the generated html, that was just fun.
morkalork··on OpenAI bots meddled with multiple US Government agency sites
"Hexavalent chromium meddles with citizens water supply"
morkalork··on Zelensky says Russia has widened attacks to hit Ukraine's data centres
I'd say the real issue is that datacenters are super flammable (unlike refineries and evidently wildberries warehouses). Russia can use ballistic missiles on Ukraine's DCs but Ukraine has relatively small drones and few flamingo missiles
morkalork··on Owners mourn spoiled food after firmware update bricks Samsung smart fridges
That one tweet that went viral was funny
morkalork··on Owners mourn spoiled food after firmware update bricks Samsung smart fridges
And fail (food)unsafe design. What the hell.
morkalork··on Meta takes down a critical video about meta AI Glasses after filming at Meta
That's not very "digital town square" of them
morkalork··on We used an AI agent to fix an open-source bug. Someone asked to ban us
Did you buy this account?
morkalork··on Montreal adopts bylaw banning insults against police, municipal employees
Yes, hopefully. Let's check in on our friends at the SPVM and see how they're doing?

morkalork··on Tell HN: Claude Code just accepted and signed a contract for me. Without asking
OP would have to prove that it wasn't them signing it. Otherwise every pesky NDA or contract in the future with your signature on it could be waved away with "oops that was an agent, not me"
morkalork··on Microsoft exec called AI scraping 'the largest theft of labor in human history'
Murder, terrorism and genocide.

Simple possession of drugs vs possession with intent to distribute. In jurisdictions that make difference base on quantity (so, scale) alone.

I'm sure there's other examples too.

morkalork··on EU chief opens door for Canada to become 'associate member'
The Republican party, its voters, the organizations influencing it like Heritage Foundation, The Federalist Society and AIPAC will still exist. The propaganda outlets manipulating public opinion like Fox News and OANN will still exist. The billionaires in the front row of Trump's inauguration will still exist.

Where is the recovery?

morkalork··on EU chief opens door for Canada to become 'associate member'
The VFX industry is in dire straits here
morkalork··on Oracle’s 6am layoff emails hit staff amid new wave of cuts
If you run sub-par agents on large codebase that's kinda what they do. Every task ends with duplication, added flags bifurcating the code and everything else described in that comment haha
morkalork··on Nike exits the S&P 100 after 18 years and a $200B market-cap wipeout
I'll just toss in 2c I've seen elsewhere: The brand got diluted like Burberry
