morjom··on Bioengineered chewing gum may offer a way to fight HPV and other microbes
The recent study on it gave the subjects a 300mL "standardized, artificially sweetened beverage containing 30g of xylitol diluted in water."

Recommended amount is 5–10g per day (5 pieces of 100% xylitol gum, 36% is already effective), taken after meals.

morjom··on Bioengineered chewing gum may offer a way to fight HPV and other microbes
Couldnt find any (relatively recent) studies that looked at bacteria over multiple years, but some earlier ones (1&2), or shorter period ones(3), that touch on it (aswell as caries, as that is the prevalent subject)

I'm sure somebody has something to correct here, just my understanding of the 60fps in gaming thing:

a hold-over from 60Hz AC power, baked into NTSC television and inherited by arcades and early consoles as a structural default. Then it became a benchmark of sorts when the 3D era made 60fps harder to reach, and got exacerbated by early LCDs pretty much standardizing on 60Hz.

Then come games like COD (2007) with marketing for its 60fpsness, and the 2010s "cinematic 30fps" debaucle.

Personally, I'm fine with 45fps with butter smooth frametimes and no pop-in.

Edit: The semi-recent discourse of 'fake-frames' comes to mind aswell..

morjom··on Future euro banknote design proposals
I'm partial for statues, and birds and rivers is a good theme. I feel like if they sticked to the semi-monochrome of the previous notes I'd be more favorable to them aswell. Monochrome might be the wrong word, ESL.

For reference, the two previous runs at the top of the page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Euro_banknotes

morjom··on Future euro banknote design proposals
The article one also misses on the size differences across notes. Not the biggest deal, but should be shown.
morjom··on Future euro banknote design proposals
For me, across all of them only two felt actually decent for a bank note (B & E, I is okay, just not used to bank notes in that orientation, same for J, but that one should be more monochrome). Either they were too vibrant or the design was too busy/had unnecesary elements.

I also feel like the notes that had buildings (like we have now) are just.. better. The initial run of 2002-2013 remains the best aesthetically, imo.

If you happen to use the WoW example in the future, the wiki efforts moved from the fandom one to wiki.gg[0], as voted by maintainers and contributors in late 2023[1].

morjom··on Magic: The Gathering took me from N2 to Japanese fluency
dameeji is a loanword, no? I have no ability in japanese but from a quick search 損傷 Sonshō (injury), which includes 傷 Kizu (scratch, wound, scar, weak point, hurt) seems like the words for "Damage" in a transliteration sense.

Weird Gloop does indeed run the wikis for some of the biggest games out there. I was very happy to see Warframe joining them back in 2024

Another one I still actively use that isnt a fandom mess (besides Warframe) is the wiki for Guild Wars, which is still hosted by the developer.

morjom··on Proton begins moving hardware out of Switzerland due to proposed legislation
"Proton's CEO Andy Yen confirmed that the proposed changes to the Swiss surveillance law made the company opt for Germany instead to host Lumo's servers. Proton has also confirmed it's also developing facilities in Norway.

While the company did not specify that Germany would become the new home of the majority of its infrastructure, Proton confirmed to TechRadar that investing in Europe doesn't equate to leaving Switzerland."
