mono442··on 30-year Treasury yield tops 5.31%, the highest in 19 years
It's rising because the market expects interest rate hikes. Long-term bonds are basically a prediction market for future interest rates.
mono442··on People are worried about America's solvency
The US emits two types of scrapes of paper, one of which (bonds) promises the other (the us dollar) and the "experts" somehow think america can actually go bankrupt. That's hilarious.
mono442··on Ruby 4.0 Universal RCE Deserialization Gadget Chain
Quoting the ruby documentation:

> Marshal.load is not suitable as a general purpose serialization format and you should never unmarshal user supplied input or other untrusted data.

mono442··on Single log line is 49KB+ (ext4) / 110KB+ (btrfs) of systemd-journald disk writes
journald has never been of great quality. It somehow manages to be visibly slower than grepping gzipped text logs.
mono442··on Mojo 1.0
Creating a new language in the age of AI seems kind of pointless. I don't write code by hand anymore, I only review it and I prefer it to be in a language which I already know since investing time in learning another language doesn't make sense at this point.
mono442··on Why Do Fewer Renters Expect to Move?
Even if the house is worth less, the morgage is eventually paid off. Rent has to be paid forever.

I can't even imagine renting when I'm retired and have less money.

mono442··on Governments are making a dangerous bet on the AI boom
The problem with public debt is vastly overestimated. It mostly doesn't matter at all. It can be just rolled over forever like it always was.

It's the private debt which is the problem since individuals and enterprises don't have the capability the governments have to roll it over forever.

mono442··on Germany Records Historic 12B KWh Solar Feed-In in July 2026
Electricity is expensive in the EU because of the EU ETS.
mono442··on Show HN: We Fixed UniFi's Slow PPPoE Performance with PPPoE Half-Bridge
I guess what they did works but it makes some of valid ip addresses unavailable.
mono442··on US Treasury undertakes historic intervention in yen market
I'm not sure. Probably because they want to maintain the appearance of central bank independence.

The yields aren't even that high. They were much higher in the past.

mono442··on US Treasury undertakes historic intervention in yen market
It doesn't change the M1 which is relevant for inflation.
mono442··on Europe makes trillion-euro bet to revive its battered industry
They are trying to fix the problems that they have created themselves. Electricity is expensive in the EU because of the ETS but the bureaucrats in Brussels are completely out of touch with reality and won't address the elephant in the room.
mono442··on US Treasury undertakes historic intervention in yen market
The svb collapsed because they bought a lot of long term bonds during zero interest rate policy. It was inevitable.
mono442··on US Treasury undertakes historic intervention in yen market
Qe, yield curve control or possibly other market operations. There won't be any real consequences, it's just an asset swap. They buy bonds and in turn create new interbank reserves.
mono442··on US Treasury undertakes historic intervention in yen market
the fed can bring the bond yields down, it's not really a problem
mono442··on Why the bond market is doubting Fed chairman Warsh
> State of play: The market reaction was swift and clear. Traders cut back on their bets that a rate hike is on the way in September, now seeing it as a coin flip.

> Longer-term bond yields soared, with 30-year Treasuries reaching 5.21% on Thursday morning, the highest since 2007.

That doesn't make sense to me. Treasury yields are basically a projection of future interest rates. If Treasuries were sold off and their yields rose, that would mean the market actually expects interest rate hikes.

mono442··on EU now fears US interference in European elections
This is business as usual. It's just now they are shilling different political parties than before.
mono442··on Who the welfare state protects shapes a country’s financial openness
It's not even that bad in the US. Houses are still more affordable than in Europe or Canada.
mono442··on Who the welfare state protects shapes a country’s financial openness
Money is debt. It can't be ever paid off, it has to constantly increase. Just look at the us public and private debt. It almost always only increases.
mono442··on Who the welfare state protects shapes a country’s financial openness
There's no natural law saying that budgets have to be balanced. Most countries run constant deficits.
mono442··on Who the welfare state protects shapes a country’s financial openness
The crisis was largely artificially engineered because Germans believed that Southern Europeans were "lazy" and needed to be made an example of.

The ECB could have brought government bond yields down from the beginning and most of the problems could have been avoided.

mono442··on Ubuntu's TPM encryption switches to snap kernel that blocks deb kernel packages
The point is that you don't have a separate password just for the disk encryption. It all works transparently.
mono442··on Europe's Ultra-Rich Could Fund a Substantial Part of the EU's Budget
shouldn't it be 5k per month?
mono442··on Europe's Ultra-Rich Could Fund a Substantial Part of the EU's Budget
the budget doesn't have to be balanced, they can fund it with deficit
mono442··on The AI jobs apocalypse probably isn't coming anytime soon
It still doesn't seem to work all that well for tasks which don't have a short feedback loop.
mono442··on K0s – The Zero Friction Kubernetes

mono442··on The Trump administration's Threat to Scientific Research
How is that different from forcing dei before? To me, it seems that the Trump administration is doing the same thing as previous administrations, just more openly.
mono442··on Exploit brokers pay $500k for WordPress RCEs. I found one with GPT5.6 and $25
PHP is a proof that you don't need elegant or good technical solutions to be successful. You can literally pile up slop together and still be successful.
