molecule··on Canonical Distribution of Kubernetes
> This is a pure upstream distribution of Kubernetes, designed to be easily deployable to public clouds, on-premise (ie vsphere, openstack), bare metal, and developer laptops.

Since this is an official announcement and the author is here: the proper phrase is "on premises"-- 'premise' is a term of speech, 'premises' is a place.

molecule··on A security update for the Raspberry Pi
Though the actual article title and URL state "For Raspbian Pixel" the author replies in the comments that this also applies to Raspbian Jessie Lite.

molecule··on Apple Abandons Development of Wireless Routers
For Airplay, I replaced my Airport Express w/ a RaspberryPi running Shairport a few years ago. Works much better, perhaps because the Pi is on wired ethernet, for one less streaming signal over the wireless (?).

molecule··on Zuck's response
@ Facebook scale, w/ more than a active billion users, this is disingenuous, @ best-- what are the raw numbers? If the average user posted 100 articles during election season, then, less than a billion article postings were hoaxes? That is definitely NOT comforting...
molecule··on AT&T will lower the quality of most video to 480p starting next year
> The feature will be enabled by default for users of its wireless service, but the carrier says customers will be able to turn it off in the myAT&T app whenever they’d like, at no cost.

molecule··on Microsoft open sources its next-gen cloud hardware design
And all of that electricity is turned into heat that needs to be dissipated, so cooling is also very expensive.
molecule··on Apple Says Goodbye to the Startup Chime with the New MacBook Pro
This seems to be what I've been using to disable it most recently:

    sudo nvram SystemAudioVolume=%80

molecule··on Documents show that Apple has permission to sell three new portable computers
> The MacBook has an i5 or an i7, yes, and it also has fans, so it doesn't throttle so heavily on high workloads.

I think that you mean "MacBook Air / Pro", as the MacBook is Core-M based and lacks fans, etc.

molecule··on [dead]
This is @ least the sixth time that this article has made the front page today and then been flagged off. This is the third time that this phenomenon has happened in recent days, previously:

- Peter Thiel to Donate $1.25M in Support of Donald Trump (nytimes.com)

- Fuck You Startup World (medium.com)

It seems that HN software's duplicate detection needs to take into account previously flagged articles (if it doesn't) or be improved, e.g. compare the title and a subset of the URL (to account for UTM variables, medium's #anchors, etc.) to those of previous article submissions.

Or revisit what it takes to flag an article off of the front page.

molecule··on [dead]

molecule··on Samsung Galaxy Note 7: Second 'safe' replacement catches fire
Interesting that both incidents took place in Kentucky:

> A man in Kentucky said he was "scared to death" when he woke to a bedroom full of smoke, local media say.

> On Wednesday a replacement Note 7 caught fire on a Southwest Airlines plane due to fly from Louisville, Kentucky, to Baltimore, Maryland.

molecule··on Replacement Samsung Galaxy Note 7 phone catches fire on Southwest plane
And the event taking place on an airplane is close enough to the nightmare scenario of catching fire during a flight that it will be firmly placed into the public consciousness.

molecule··on Ask HN: What features on HN do you use the least?
The front page. I exclusively use hckrnews as my entry point, and have for years now. It caches articles that make the front page, so I don't need to manually re-scan the front page for new stuff nor worry about missing something that made it to the front page.
