molecularbutter··on Show HN: I made $8000 in one day on the Mac App Store
You should lower the price point to somewhere between $2-$5 and keep it there. It would be a shame to lose the top app store ranking when it goes back to $15.
molecularbutter··on A "real" user proves Windows 8 fails on the desktop
Microsoft needs to break Windows 8 Metro away from the desktop and make it tablet only, why is this so hard for them to see?
molecularbutter··on I’m calling it: Ubuntu is finally ready for the world.
hasn't linux been proclaimed 'ready for the world' every year since 1997?
molecularbutter··on Windows 8 Consumer Preview released.
Bummer, hopefully it will be easy to set up. To get a good feel for this we really need multitouch support.
molecularbutter··on Windows 8 Consumer Preview released.
Has anyone tried using this with Boot Camp on a Mac yet?
molecularbutter··on How Apple's Top Secret Product Development Process Works
Why do we need to bother reading it when half the Apple blogs are just re-writing and regurgitating the book anyway?
molecularbutter··on Developers React to OS X Mountain Lion
The App Store is a very successful distribution engine and marketing service, most devs I know are quite pleased with it's existence and Gatekeeper ultimately will make it stronger. I would be extraordinarily disappointed if Apple ever went 'App Store only' though.
molecularbutter··on How to Not Be a Shitty Recruiter
LOL at the title
molecularbutter··on Redesigning the Windows Logo
Microsoft seems confused, but I am genuinely interested in Windows 8 and Metro. Hopefully they ditch their legacy stuff though and make a clean break a la iOS/OS X
molecularbutter··on Tim Cook On OS X Mountain Lion
This should be more popular, it's a compelling read.
molecularbutter··on Ask HN: What are the good old ideas that still make money on the web?
Requires you to have some expertise with Adwords and Facebook ads, otherwise you'll blow tons of money attempting to generate leads and sell nothing. It can work though.
molecularbutter··on Sixteen Concerned Scientists: No Need to Panic About Global Warming
Unfortunately, it's not just the WSJ, it's anything related to News Corp and Murdoch.

Here's a list of media sources you shouldn't trust:

molecularbutter··on Sixteen Concerned Scientists: No Need to Panic About Global Warming
More Global Warming denialism from a Murdoch news source? I'd pretend to be shocked, but really the only thing surprising is that the WSJ is still even vaguely respectable considering it's ownership and bizarre bias.
molecularbutter··on Techmeme redesign
The ultimate echo chamber is still alive and well, mostly because it aims to flatter a small group of loud "influencers". Reasonably effective marketing strategy in that sense.
molecularbutter··on How to Make It on Craigslist
Like sharing any other business idea you mean?
molecularbutter··on How to Make It on Craigslist
Interesting story, it's fascinating to see what people are doing to make ends meet in the new economy.

Similarly, I know someone who makes well over $100,000 a year buying, fixing, and reselling things on Craigslist and eBay. They found a very specific (and obvious) niche that is highly profitable to be in, I imagine if this guy specialized more he will see greater returns as well.

molecularbutter··on Steve Jobs biography -- Isaacson blew it
Yes true, but I suspect publishing was rushed forward due to his untimely passing, and thus there was not adequate time to elaborate on some of the personal things we'd all like to know more about. I am satisfied with the book, but I do hope that Isaacson publishes his notes or better yet, his recorded interviews, down the road.
molecularbutter··on Mpd + ncmpc - perfect combo for iTunes replacement - Tuan Anh Tran
I agree, I'll sound like a freakshow but I actually like iTunes for playlists and its ability to share music libraries easily on a LAN.
molecularbutter··on New Stanford class on Cryptography
There are 10 total, scroll to the bottom of that page.
molecularbutter··on Steve Jobs biography -- Isaacson blew it
The gist of the complaints seem to be that the bio is about Steve Jobs and not more about specific Apple events (maybe they missed the title?) and that Isaacson's editors didn't catch a few typos in their rush to publish soon after the death of Jobs.
molecularbutter··on Facebook is scaring me
LOL at all the facebook employees who are chiming into this thread (and others) to defend the latest creepery from their professionally invasive advertising company. I know you're just waiting for the IPO to cash in, but come on, how can you defend this nonsense?
molecularbutter··on Ready For a Reddit Replacement?
Ready for needing glasses? This site requires superhuman vision to be able to read size 4 font!
molecularbutter··on Applying to YC as a Single Founder
Brilliant, I was not aware of these facts.
molecularbutter··on Foursquare's Big Round: A Sign of Things to Come for NYC
LOL
molecularbutter··on 25% of Students Say College Loans Have Impacted Their Career Choices
Graduating with enormous debt forces a lot of kids into jobs they don't want, assuming they can get hired at all.
molecularbutter··on OS X – Safe, yet horribly insecure
Does anyone have a version of this article with an even smaller font size? Maybe something that requires a microscope to read? Size 8 font isn't blinding enough.
molecularbutter··on Exploring the Bitcoin Bubble: from February to Now
wouldn't touch it with a ten foot pole
molecularbutter··on Redditor Explains Why Apple Continue Making Frail Power Cables
in other words, why apple makes such good looking products
molecularbutter··on If average salaries are 80-100k why does everyone keep getting 40-60k offers?
> What's being tested is not 'how did your previous employer value you?', it's 'how good at negotiating were you when you started your last job?'

and "how little can we get away with paying you?"

I worked for a medium sized private software company and managements goal was to hire people as cheaply as possible, no exceptions regardless of experience or education. They routinely offered developers 30k to start, many were highly offended and some just laughed at it, but they would always get a few developers who were down and out to accept. Yes turnover was high and most people didn't last longer than a year or two, but they viewed developers as disposable assets due to the local economic climate. This was in a medium sized US city with high unemployment and few tech opportunities, managements attitude was ruthlessly honest "we're the only ones hiring in the area, what other choice do they have?"

molecularbutter··on Code School now open to the public
looks great, any plans for courses on Objective C, Cocoa, iOS/Mac development?
