moistbar··on T-Mobile: Breach Exposed SSN/DOB of 40M+ People
The vaccine-hesitant people I know are waiting for the live attenuated virus and/or FDA approval...

Please show me where it lists the reasons for not vaccinating on the page you linked, as I only see numbers on whether or not people are vaccinated. As it stands, your claim has zero statistical evidence to back it up. In fact, your link has zero relevance to your claim in any way.

moistbar··on T-Mobile: Breach Exposed SSN/DOB of 40M+ People
You're significantly overestimating the amount of pull that type of person has in the US anymore, while simultaneously dramatically (I can only assume willfully) misquoting that bible verse.
moistbar··on Ask HN: What Apple alternatives are you switching to?
For photos, you could always do Nextcloud and save yourself the work of writing something (unless, of course, you're doing it for fun).
moistbar··on Tinder will introduce voluntary ID verification to reduce catfishing incidents
Why do they even allow that? It seems counter to the whole point of an app designed around finding someone nearby to bang.
moistbar··on macOS in Svelte
Except when the system can't handle the animations and they get jerky.
moistbar··on A phone the FBI sold to criminals
I have to agree. This is a clever way to catch criminals that doesn't particularly harm non-criminals. I'll take this over the anti-encryption campaign the FBI has been on for the past 10 or 20 years.
moistbar··on Audio editor Audacity denies spyware accusation
What's wrong with the feedback they get through traditional channels, though? There's already a GitHub issues page and the forums. There's no need to exfiltrate user data to figure out something they're already telling you.
moistbar··on Panasonic sells its $3.6B Tesla stake
Teslas don't use NEMA chargers in the US.
moistbar··on Panasonic sells its $3.6B Tesla stake
Their charging infrastructure is by far the best out there, even if it is a proprietary standard.
moistbar··on FAA releases TRUST: Free online training required to fly drones recreationally
This exact attitude is why public opinion is turning against privately-owned drones.
moistbar··on What it's like to be cancelled
Someone, somewhere, thinks something you did is reprehensible.
moistbar··on What it's like to be cancelled
So, to you, there's no possibility for a person to redeem themselves regardless of the nature of their transgression?
moistbar··on Did Windows 10 slow down with each feature update?
1809 is the first build that shipped with the mitigations, so that explains why there are a lot of performance problems around that time.
moistbar··on Did Windows 10 slow down with each feature update?
All of the major slowdowns seem to pop up in build 1809, which is where the first Spectre/Meltdown mitigations were introduced, which is to be expected.
moistbar··on Towing a Tesla at 70 MPH replenishes battery at fast charger rates
Why stop there? You could get a whole circle of Teslas towing each other and never even have to stop moving!
moistbar··on Today we’re eating the winners of the 1948 Chicken of Tomorrow contest
I wasn't talking about those vitamins. I was talking about B12, which we largely get from meat...meat being the original topic.
moistbar··on Today we’re eating the winners of the 1948 Chicken of Tomorrow contest
> In all, 52% of vegans, 7% of vegetarians and one omnivore were classified as vitamin B12 deficient (defined as serum vitamin B12 < 118 pmol/l). [0]

[0] http://www.epic-oxford.org/publications/1554/serum-concentra...

No, they are not "clearly deficient while eating meat" as you claim. There's a documented B12 deficiency in vegans and vegetarians that isn't present in meat eaters.

moistbar··on Today we’re eating the winners of the 1948 Chicken of Tomorrow contest
Do plant-based proteins have the B vitamins that most of the world is deficient in?
moistbar··on A Mycological Foray: A new look at John Cage and his mushroom obsession (2020)
>Poisoning yourself with false hellebore suggests he might have been a little unhinged.

I would have thought his music alone was plenty of evidence that he was more than a little unhinged.

moistbar··on Big Dice Games Acquires Risus: The Anything RPG
I have a hunch that upvotes/minute matters too.
moistbar··on Notesnook: A Private Note Taking Alternative to Evernote
I have trouble believing any company that makes claims about privacy but won't provide source code to back them up.
moistbar··on On Smoking
This was my experience quitting drinking. Once I realized what it meant for my stability, both mental and financial, the upsides stopped outweighing the downsides and I lost all interest.

Still working on cigarettes.

moistbar··on Honeywell gets hit with $13M fine for defense export violations
Oh neat, the wu mao is actually confronting me. Was your blatant attempt at misdirection worth the fifty cents?
moistbar··on Rufus: Reliable USB Formatting Utility
IIRC you used to be able to make a bootable Windows stick on Linux simply by extracting the contents of the ISO onto a USB stick and marking it bootable. Is that still possible now that EFI is everywhere?
moistbar··on Rufus: Reliable USB Formatting Utility
I use Ventoy on a 500 GB portable SSD. I have Windows 10, FreeBSD, and multiple versions of each distro on it just in case. It even works with TempleOS.

All it needs now is some way to keep persistent files and I'll never need another thumb drive to install an OS.

moistbar··on How to survive a toxic workplace and how to avoid creating one
> obsessive hunting for displays of anger and ruining people's lives over it

The man ruined his own life by being an absolute maniac. He has nobody to blame but himself, and to make it out to be a witch hunt is at minimum obtuse and at worst acting as an apologist for dangerous behavior. If throwing a printer at someone who's pleasantly introducing themself seems reasonable to you, please, I beg of you, never work anywhere. It's for everyone else's safety.

moistbar··on How to survive a toxic workplace and how to avoid creating one
It's hard not to gloat over the misery of someone who, guaranteed, caused at least as much misery to multiple other people.
moistbar··on Bill aims to halt Bitcoin mining until its environmental impact can be assessed
HN is particularly rabid about banning cars for some reason. I got absolutely mobbed by cyclists the other day when I said that there are legitimate reasons to use a car in a city, with someone even going as far as claiming my car is too big. When I pointed out that the cars he suggested as smaller alternatives were actually bigger than what I drive...nothing.

The anti-car movement is truly insufferable, because, at least online, it seems it's mostly spearheaded by people from Europe who have never seen how spread-out America is. I'm not about to bike 30 miles each way to work every day, rain or shine, and yet I get looked at as the villain for suggesting people stop going outside when the weather sucks.

Rant over. I hate people.

moistbar··on Bill aims to halt Bitcoin mining until its environmental impact can be assessed
How does shutting something down for 3 years to find out information we already know not count as censorship? The environmental claim only really applies to Bitcoin, and yet it's a full moratorium on all cryptocurrency, even those that use PoS.
moistbar··on 60% of school apps are sending student data with third parties without consent
> Not sending data to a major cloud provider is quickly becoming like producing your own electricity because you don't trust the grid will provide a stable frequency and won't go down.

What, you mean smart? A lot of data centers do exactly that. SevOne has at least five Bloom Energy H2 fuel cells that run the whole building because they can't afford any downtime.
