moi2388··on Apple proposes to take a 15% cut of purchases made outside the App Store
You mean VAT?
moi2388··on Private prisons announce $1.4B in revenue as immigration detentions climb
Since private prisons make a profit instead of costing millions, you can actually build more of them.

With the added benefit of not costing the taxpayer as much.

moi2388··on Private prisons announce $1.4B in revenue as immigration detentions climb
Yes. Prisons are overcrowded, criminals are released earlier or not put in prison at all, and judges punish lower because prisons are too full.
moi2388··on Private prisons announce $1.4B in revenue as immigration detentions climb
Does it? The alternative is non-profit incarceration/detention, in which the incentive is to not put people in prison, leading to more crime, lower trust and more victims.
moi2388··on Now is the time to give LLMs access to the ACM digital library
You mean the knowledge you gathered with public grants, with a public paid salary, yet don’t want to make freely available to the public?

Yeah, too bad

moi2388··on Our position on open-weights models
China is simply undercutting again, by copying and subsidising, to ensure another industry in the west fails.

Just like batteries, the automotive industry and in fact most machining.

We really ought to boycott Chinese products from stolen tech and patents from entering our markets

moi2388··on Blade Runner 2099 exclusive first look at the replicant uprising
Ugh. No thank you. And Hunter Schafer is an immediate no.
moi2388··on EU fines Google €890M for competition breaches over search and apps
India exports small amounts to Nepal and Bhutan, but more importantly already resells Russian oil and gas.

So it’s a nice circumvention for the EU if they were to require one.

moi2388··on EU fines Google €890M for competition breaches over search and apps
At the beginning of 2025, the US was only supplying 20% of the military aid to ukraine.

After that it has practically completely dried up. Ukraine and the EU are already producing themselves.

This is a big long term loss to the US.

Also if US makes their LNG unaffordable the EU will simply switch to countries like India.

Who exactly is the US going to still sell to?

moi2388··on Passkeys were invented by engineers with zero understanding of consumer brain
Because they were exporting secrets in plain text. And they didn’t threaten, they said relying partners (so the site itself, for example GitHub) might block them.

This is not some conspiracy, and again has nothing to do with the fact that I can export my key passes

I don’t get the activism here

moi2388··on So Reddit has decided that plain HTML is unsafe
?
moi2388··on Passkeys were invented by engineers with zero understanding of consumer brain
Yes me too. And it works great. I do make a backup of it to another provider once in a while though, just in case.
moi2388··on Passkeys were invented by engineers with zero understanding of consumer brain
Again, what are you taking about? There are open source implementations available. I can write my own. They do work. This list just shows some which do not actually implement the spec correctly.

Also moving the goalpost. The post I replied to said I couldn’t export it. I absolutely can, and have, with a single click. To another provider. It’s really not a big deal.

moi2388··on Passkeys were invented by engineers with zero understanding of consumer brain
What are you talking about? I can literally export all that data to another OS or password manager. Takes a whopping single click.
moi2388··on ECHR confirms ethical veganism is a protected philosophical belief
I do have an actual point, you for whatever reason just don’t agree with it.

My point is that people in prison gave up their freedom when they committed crimes. They should not be rewarded by giving them dietary choices. It’s a prison, a punishment, not a hotel.

moi2388··on Infinities, impossibilities, and the man in the white linen suit
Are they? Are there any actual Turing machines? Doesn’t that require infinite memory? I don’t know of a single thing which actually has that, nor one that comes close.
moi2388··on ECHR confirms ethical veganism is a protected philosophical belief
[flagged]
moi2388··on Mathematicians still don't know the fastest way to multiply numbers
My algorithm is O(n+n+..n) which is O(n), since there we also ignore addition fortunately :D
moi2388··on France, Germany vow to develop Palantir rival
Well, you might have better success if like France and Germany you already have the things you wish for and simply agree to start using it
moi2388··on FDA approves new kind of cholesterol pill
I was responding to the glp-1 question.

And yes, exercising and dieting absolutely reduces the need for these medications.

It also reduces the amount of people who have high cholesterol, although again, in both cases not all

moi2388··on Mathematicians still don't know the fastest way to multiply numbers
For large numbers, operations like addition don’t matter? Only multiplication? And now we want to find the fewest amount of multiplications?

Okay. No problem.

(ad + bc) = d + d .. + d + c + c .. + c

There we go, zero multiplications.

moi2388··on FDA approves new kind of cholesterol pill
For all people? No. For the vast majority of people? Yes. Eat healthy and exercise more.
moi2388··on Why is tiny Norway so good at sports? It's more than Erling Haaland
Are they so good? Or does it look like they are because they get medals in Winter Olympics, where they are overrepresented given that there aren’t that many countries which even have a winter?
moi2388··on Why is tiny Norway so good at sports? It's more than Erling Haaland
Because it’s about sports, not games.
moi2388··on Painting the sides of railroad rails white to reduce derailment
Because there is a lot of rail. And it requires inspection.
moi2388··on Midnight social media curfew, infinite scrolling limits proposed for older teens
I don’t think the parents who allow their kids to do this will suddenly start parenting them, so I doubt the effect will actually be significant; kids will simply work around it.
moi2388··on US Military smartphones targeted through roaming and ad tech

moi2388··on America pays workers just 27% of what its wealth allows – the worst in the OECD
> I am able to see my PCP and dentist within a week if I want

I am in the EU and I can do that too?

moi2388··on QR-Swastika-Avoider
Not really. Not having a swastika is not a problem in the slightest. Indians can also perfectly fine create versions which do include them if they’d prefer that.
moi2388··on European "age verification" "app" forcing everyone to use Android or iOS
It can, but we’re quite good at it with all animals and plants..
