I say c-l-i
mlwarren··on Ask HN: Freelancers, what do you think of this idea?
I'd use this and I don't know of another service that does this.
mlwarren··on My 5.5 Months on Soylent: The Joys of Not Cooking
I'd be curious to know what variety of fruits specifially and any significant sources of protein. Do you feel hungry throughout the day?
mlwarren··on Ask HN: What's the best way to spend three months before I start a new job?
Explore NYC like a tourist would (if you haven't already). There should be plenty of fun stuff to keep you occupied.
mlwarren··on Ask HN: How many of you would prefer a 30-hour workweek, with 3/4 of the pay?
I would prefer this.
mlwarren··on Ask HN: Developers how do you spend you Sunday?
Away from my computer as much as possible.
mlwarren··on Ask HN: Are you wearing computer glasses?
I have a pair of Gamma Rays and a pair of Gunnars. Both seem to help my eyes fatigue wise. I originally bought them and used them to see if my sleep would be less affected from the computer screen, but I don't think they've helped in that regard.

I've used flux in the past but I find I like the glasses more.

If you want to try some out I'd suggest starting with Gamma Ray, they're significantly cheaper than Gunnar. Some are as low as 12-15 dollars. http://www.amazon.com/GAMMA-ESSENTIALS-Computer-Glasses-Harm...

mlwarren··on Ask HN: No-BS resource on how to manage developers?
Here you go: http://programming-motherfucker.com/

But really, get out of the developers way and let them do what they do best. Shield them from bureaucracy as much as possible and don't try to force them into the dogma of a buzzwordy team management methodology.

mlwarren··on The Open Plan Office and the Extrovert Ideal
That really solves a lot of problems. Need quiet time -- work from home. Need collaboration -- go to the office.

It's what I generally end up doing.

mlwarren··on How long is your commute?
Sounds awesome, I wish you well!
mlwarren··on How long is your commute?
When I work remotely, 0 minutes. When I drive 20-60 mins one way depending on traffic.

I'll be moving to a smaller town farther away from work soon and my drive commute will be 35-40 minutes. A little longer on average but not as variable due to traffic. Hopefully it'll allow me to plan evenings better on in-office days.

mlwarren··on How long is your commute?
Any interesting plans for the future?
mlwarren··on But Where Do People Work in This Office?
I would probably be a holdout for the private office. I've been opting to work from home as much as I can from my quiet home office rather than go to the office. My colleagues are all very responsive via email/IM so that helps a lot when we need to converse.
mlwarren··on Those making $1,000+/month on side projects – what did you make?
There is an Amazon API for that, but since you're trying to curate for only the best watches, manual work best.
mlwarren··on Those making $1,000+/month on side projects – what did you make?
Are you pulling the watch pictures from Amazon manually? Or have you automated it to some extent?
mlwarren··on Ask HN: Why are you stuck in a dead end job?
That was my guess until he mentioned it's a bike+pedestrian friendly friendly town. Maybe if it's a job in the heart of Raleigh or Durham, but RTP is definitely not fitting that description.
mlwarren··on Ask HN: What are your favorite podcasts?
In no particular order, my favorites are:

Various podcasts from the BBC: Discovery, Documentaries, Science Hour
  The Joe Rogan Experience
  Stuff You Should Know
  The Freelancers' Show
  The Tim Ferriss Show
  Dan Carlin's Hardcore History
  Freakonomics Radio
mlwarren··on Ask HN: Programmers, what are your min requirements? What is your utopia?
I agree with that. Pay me well and let me work remote and I can handle mostly all the other details that make me happy.
mlwarren··on Ebola: learn from the past
Not trying to be snarky, but what makes you think that this one will not? The mainstream media seems to downplay it, and a good number of people online seem to be alarmist about it. I'm not sure what to think with the data I have available.
mlwarren··on Depression and feeling like an outsider
Seconded. SSRI's seem to have a stigma around them. A lot of people I know "worry it'll change their personality". For me, it did change my personality. I went from being an anxious mess to being functional. Really wish I had started them sooner.
mlwarren··on Ask HN: Which headphones should I buy?
Monoprice 8323's[1] have good reviews[2] for the price. I picked them up and I'm happy with them. I really like the detachable cables and the fact that they provide two cables in the box. I did do some modding to the headband to give more padding, using [3] as a guide. I believe I picked up the headband on amazon for ~10 dollars.

mlwarren··on Plants in offices increase happiness and productivity
The impact plants have on clean indoor air also creates a boost in productivity[1]. This is probably most effective in areas with increased pollution, though.

mlwarren··on Batsh – A language that compiles to Bash and Windows Batch
This is great for me. As part of my day job I am often stuck writing batch scripts (yes, in 2014) for clients that refuse to run powershell. Writing a simple batch script is usually not a problem, but it can be very encumbering as the complexity increases.

Thank you for sharing.

mlwarren··on Ask HN: Why “Ops”?
It sounds more official and serious and makes people feel more important so they title themselves that way.
mlwarren··on Ask HN: Space exploration book recommendations?
Two from the perspective of mission control regarding mostly the early US space program, the third about the Apollo program in general.

Failure is not an Option - Gene Kranz
Flight: My life in Mission Control - Chris Kraft
A Man on the Moon - Andrew Chaikin
mlwarren··on What's the most ridiculous job title at a startup?
Any title that incorporates Ninja, Rockstar, Pirate, Guru, etc. Also Full Stack is so misused it's becoming a joke.
mlwarren··on Ask HN: What would you have in your "smart home"?
Voice controlled window shades and interior lights.
mlwarren··on Any company that specializes in basic (i.e. dumb/feature) cell phones?
http://www.greatcall.com/products/jitterbug Jitterbug fits the description. My grandmother just got one. Big, simple buttons and no other features. I don't even think it has texting. One of the more interesting features is operator assisted calling.

What I find interesting is the Jitterbug phone is relatively expensive for how simple it is. They sell it on their site for $100. I found it on Amazon for $80. Similar "simple" phones with other carriers can be found for free, or $10 or so.

mlwarren··on Ask HN: Most productive OS for web developers?
How did you create/configure the OSX virtual machine?
mlwarren··on Ask HN: Do you care about sustainability (and how does it show at work)?
Yes. I was unhappy with my previous job because the company mission was to just make money providing "business solutions". I'm now working at a Smart Grid company where one of our policies/goals is to reduce the carbon foot print of our customers.
