mlboss··on Singapore govt dating app uses Gale-Shapley stable marriage algorithm
How do you propose to solve the population crisis ? Given a choice people will always want the position of less responsibility. As a society we have agree to give sacrifices so that we can have next generation.
mlboss··on Singapore govt dating app uses Gale-Shapley stable marriage algorithm
History will disagree. People used to have multiple children with far less resources and education. It is a well known phenomenon that more affluence lead to less children.
mlboss··on Singapore govt dating app uses Gale-Shapley stable marriage algorithm
There is a very simple solution to the problem. Just add a tax to single people and childless couples or reverse give huge tax break to married and couple with kids.

In past the motive for marriage was sex and companionship which was frowned in society if out of wedlock. Now it is not frowned upon. The old constraint is gone and we need to add new constraints if we want to solve the problem.

mlboss··on Autism is genetic – and why this information matters now
> Autism is genetic. You’re born autistic and you’re autistic for life. Most autistic people are autistic because of genes they got from their parents. This is why autism often runs in families. Much less commonly, other factors can play a role, but usually in combination with genes from parents. There isn’t a single ‘autism gene’. Thousands of genes combine to make a person autistic. Scientists have identified many of these genes, but they think there are still many more to find. And there is no genetic test for autism. We don't fully understand how genes combine to make a person autistic. It is complex and no simple test can give an accurate answer. Genetic testing cannot predict whether a child will be autistic or not, and it can’t be used to diagnose someone as autistic.

Autism is genetic but we cannot do genetic testing and prove that you have autism. Seems like a very circular reasoning.

mlboss··on ElevenLabs Music v2.5
What if there is no potential of the game making any money ? I am sure if a musician wants to create cover art they will give AI image generator a first pass.
mlboss··on Creativity is the new moat
It was always that way. You trade originality with convenience.

* It is fun and energizing to hunt with friends but it is convenient to buy stuff from supermarket.

* It is fun to talk and share but convenient to browse tv/phone

* It is fun to walk and run but convenient to drive

Technologically slowly takes us away from the real world and into this abstract convenient world.

AI just accelerated it.

mlboss··on Corporate America is getting hooked on open-source AI
In both the countries the researchers are Chinese.
mlboss··on The American Worker vs. the Most Qualified
Few facts to add color to different point of views:

- PG wants cheap labor so that we can get cheap/hard working employees for startups with a fear of deportation - Palmer cannot hire people on visas because they cannot easily clear security clearance that is required to work in Defense sector. Its better to align with current Government to get contracts.

mlboss··on The American Worker vs. the Most Qualified
That is the real reason. Immigrants are cheap and will work hard maybe at the cost of quality. Companies will to hire cheap or will outsource to cheaper countries. I think every generation had cheap foreign labor coming to America which fueled the growth. Right now it is H1b labor.
mlboss··on Apple caught off guard by AI demand for Mac Mini and Mac Studio
Data privacy and "unsafe" models are pretty valid reasons to use local models. If I want to generate violent images/text you cannot do that using cloud models.
mlboss··on Doctors are finally learning to manage antidepressant withdrawal
Sadness is a symptom. Mind/Body is saying something is wrong and it needs to be changed. Medication just dulls the pain. It is not a solution. The real solution is changing the way of life so that it becomes more fulfilling.

Happiness is not a easy thing to achieve. You need to fix the body, eat right, exercise, control/watch your thoughts, let go of things beyond control, enjoy what is in front of you instead of chasing some imaginary future.

mlboss··on Scrap (2006)
Can you do their work if there is a nobody to help ? Can they do your work if there is nobody to help ? You are underestimating the amount of time/energy spent in developing the skill.
mlboss··on Scrap
How about hard work + courage ? Without ability to take risk and potential failure it is very difficult to change your economic level. It is very naive to think that doing the same thing everyday will somehow change your economic level.
mlboss··on GLM 5.2 and the coming AI margin collapse
To switch an LLM you just need to open another browser tab and type in your chat query. You cannot say the same for any other kind of software. Traditional software have a large switching cost which acts as a barrier.

LLM providers are like airlines. You only need when you have travel and most of the time you go for the cheapest one. Maybe LLM providers should start providing reward points :) .

mlboss··on US holds off blacklisting DeepSeek, more than 100 firms deemed security risks
The main cost is training the first version of model. It is very easy to just train the copy cat model based on the output of another model.
mlboss··on Dopamine Fracking
I know this article talks about digital media, but in general, that is what any technology does. It distances us from nature and makes things more convenient, but it also takes away the nuances involved.

Any concept that helps us categorize real things also takes away their individuality. Every tree is different, but the word “tree” takes away its uniqueness. A “tree” becomes something that provides humans with food, or something that can be used for firewood or paper.

mlboss··on New research suggests people can communicate and practice skills while dreaming
I don't think this will ever work. Sleep acts as a compression for our daily life. Brains takes in daily new information and compresses it based on what we already know. The stuff dreams are made off are just a variant of what happens in day life.
mlboss··on American Dads Became the Parents Their Fathers Never Were
It is also kind of forced. Modern industrial society wants to extract as much productivity out of workforce as possible. What that means is in 1965 one income was able to sustain a household but now we need two incomes. There is no dedicated support for kids now so fathers have to give up time and mothers have to exchange child-mother bonding time from kids to the company.

The real benefiter of this is the capitalist who can now have twice the workforce at the price of one.

How about we start paying market price to the parent who takes care of the kids irrespective of mothers or fathers ? Investing in next generation is way more important than making useless widgets faster.

mlboss··on Men who stare at walls
The meditation I practice is based on non-duality techniques. Mind needs a problem to solve so ask the question "Where am I ?". Anything that you can see both physically and mentally is not you. You are not the table, the chair, your hands, your legs, your face, your sensations, your feeling, your thoughts, your emotions. Neti-Neti (not this, not this).

You are something beyond all this. Try find it.

By going through the mind goes in a trance unable to think any thoughts. I find it better approach compared to try to disciplining the mind.

mlboss··on Reports of code's death are greatly exaggerated
Humans have the advantange of millions of year of training baked in their genes. There is nothing magical about being a human. Once algorithms have ability to collect data from real world(robotics), ability to do experiments in real world and ability to mimic nature all these advantages will fall away.

The rate of change is accelerating. I worry we don't have much time left unless we get serious about merging with machines.

mlboss··on Waymo Safety Impact
Its is corporate fiefdom. Everybody trying to one up other executives to show impact instead of working together towards a unified goal. The bigger the company the more we see this phenomena. Nobody gets promotion if you just used existing internal service.
mlboss··on Show HN: Tmux-IDE, OSS agent-first terminal IDE
Can somebody develop a mobile app that natively supports tmux
mlboss··on The path to ubiquitous AI (17k tokens/sec)
If I am not mistaken this chip was build specifically for the llama 8b model. Nvidia chips are general purpose.
mlboss··on The path to ubiquitous AI (17k tokens/sec)
Inference is crazy fast! I can see lot of potential for this kind of chip for IOT devices and Robotics.
mlboss··on Garry Tan claims Zoho will be out of business due to vibe coding
I bet all are Y Combinator companies.
mlboss··on Garry Tan claims Zoho will be out of business due to vibe coding
Most probably all VCs will go out of business as the cost of creating software companies approaches zero. The need to create an army of software developers is no longer needed.
mlboss··on What happens when even college students can't do math anymore?
I don’t think it is about resources. Growing up in 3rd world country I have zero resources. It is the drive of student and higher standards from parents and teachers that matters. Everybody is just getting soft.

mlboss··on Job-seekers are dodging AI interviewers
Somebody should create a AI interviewer for VC funding. VCs are swamped with so many funding requests. All the founders should first convince AI why they need funding.
mlboss··on Job-seekers are dodging AI interviewers
Candidate will be still writing the prompt.
