mizhi··on Why I'm done with Scrum
After a bit of experience with scrum, one of the things I"ve come to appreciate is that it's not a one-size-fits-all methodology. I think the spirit of scrum (break work into chunks, have working code at each stake in the ground, define a project in terms of user stories, etc) is more important than the letter of the law, and being able to tailor the process to your current reality is more valuable than dogmatic adherence to some prescription.
mizhi··on IBM patents runtime code replacement in web applications
This is not novel. This is not innovative. It is a relatively obvious method for dynamic code loading over the web that any intermediate programmer could have arrived at independently.
mizhi··on Don’t Lie On Your Resume, But Lie Like Hell During Your Exit Interview
The first bullet point refers to a Forbes article that I think puts the advice in context. It's not so much "be nice," as it is "don't be nasty."

It's quite possible to simultaneously be honest about a toxic work environment and to do so as a professional.

mizhi··on Don’t Lie On Your Resume, But Lie Like Hell During Your Exit Interview
That is a far-cry from the behavior this article (and the Forbes one) is cautioning against. You sound like you didn't burn bridges and you provided your critiques in a professional manner.

That's different than using the exit interview as the opportunity to let out all your frustrations and to "get back" at the company.

mizhi··on Why I'm Majoring In Computer Science (and you should too)
Majoring in computer science for the hacking is sort of like majoring in electrical engineering to run electrical wire in houses.
mizhi··on Why I Hate 3-D (And You Should Too)
I saw Avatar. Criticisms of the plot aside, I loved the 3D. I wanted to see it with my partner. But when I talked to her about it, she said that 3D films make her nauseous.

So now, it seems like every movie coming out that is possibly even worth seeing is in 3D. I can adjust to the experience, but my partner can't, and this is a problem because going to the movies is one of the few options we have for a quick date away from the house and baby.

Like Ebert, I'm fine with 3D as an option. But I hope it doesn't become the dominant form for decent movies. I'm hoping that the studios continue offering the alternate non-3D option for each movie they release.

mizhi··on I suck at math, please divulge resources
This site is awesome. It helped me unscrew my understanding of complex numbers.
mizhi··on A Techie Birth Announcement
For many things, yes, I prefer metric... but I was raised on the imperial system and human body measurements just make more sense to me that way. 3.47kg just doesn't work as well for me as 7lbs 10.6oz. :)
mizhi··on A Techie Birth Announcement
Not yet, but that would be one hell of a domain name. :)
