mithrilskeleton··on Virgin births in animals are no longer rare
Why do you believe the Christian Bible is the Word of God when other texts(The Quran, etc) similarly purport to be the One Truth? These other texts also include "eyewitness testimony."
mithrilskeleton··on The Unreasonable Effectiveness of C (2013)
I think that is exactly what Rust[0] is trying to do.

mithrilskeleton··on Getting Organized with Org Mode
You can use evil-mode[0] in Emacs to have the best of both worlds

mithrilskeleton··on CotEditor – Text Editor for OS X
The license is GPL v2; you might want to consider using “Version 2 of the GPL or any later version” as GPL v2 is unfortunately incompatible with the Apache license. Also, the GPL v3 is becoming more and more popular nowadays.

This means you could keep the project under GPL v2, but people would have the option of using a later GPL version.

mithrilskeleton··on What’s New in Emacs 24.4
Does this mean that It is released? I can only find info suggesting that 24.3 is the current stable version.
mithrilskeleton··on Rust means never having to close a socket
Unfortunately Swift is not open source or cross platform
mithrilskeleton··on Firefox 28 Release Notes
try it with a space, like "45/ 3" and it works
mithrilskeleton··on Namecheap now officially accepts Bitcoin
minor correction to a valid post: as of 06:33 UTC, bitcoin goes for 37.9 USD
mithrilskeleton··on Canonical writing their own X/Wayland replacement

mithrilskeleton··on Why are there no true cross-platform filesystems?
UDF is pretty cool. It is an open standard supported by Windows and Mac OS X, but for some reason linux doesn't support versions higher than 2.01

Maybe somebody here has the skill and time to fix this.

mithrilskeleton··on Bitcoin breaks 30 USD
You make some valid points regarding the inverse relationship between convenience and security with bitcoin. However, the latest version (0.8.0) of the bitcoin reference client is a significant improvement in terms of initial syncing speed and overall optimization. Being experimental software, there is still room for improvement.
mithrilskeleton··on Mega update: Dotcom's service now accepts Bitcoin
I apologise, but the pedant in me can't help but point out that your capitalization "BitCoin" is incorrect. For talking about the network and software, use "Bitcoin". When talking about the currency, use "bitcoin", no capitals, as one would with "dollar"
mithrilskeleton··on If you sleep naked, you are probably in favor of marijuana legalization
This large degree of correlation just doesn't seem right. How was the data gathered?
mithrilskeleton··on Universal Disk Format
Well, i just formatted my 32GB flash drive UDF, and no hiccups on mac or linux. The WDTV Live seems not to support it. Havent tested on Windows yet
mithrilskeleton··on Low-cost Solution to Clearing Afghan Landmines
Internet Explorer 8?
mithrilskeleton··on Buy a car with Bitcoins, save $5,000
I find Bitfloor (yeah, that one) to be pretty painless, and basically no fees to deposit.
mithrilskeleton··on Installing Linux on Windows 8 PCs: No easy answers
Is your iMac running Lion? When I upgraded from Snow Leopard, it borked my rEFIt ubuntu partition.
mithrilskeleton··on Dwolla just kicked out their biggest customer via TOS: Bitcoin
from the forums: (00:52:52) MagicalTux: we have written consent from Dwolla, basically now Dwolla has "normal" merchant accounts, and "special" merchant accounts with extra requirements
mithrilskeleton··on Redesigning the Windows Logo
I use better touch tool to do pretty much exactly that on OSX (along with multitouch gestures) http://blog.boastr.net/
mithrilskeleton··on Reddit: a necessary change in policy
Pornographic images are more broadly defined than i had previously realized. Free speech is more restricted under case law than i had imagined, too; if it is "obscene" it can be banned. Not sure if i agree with that, but it is what it is.
mithrilskeleton··on Reddit: a necessary change in policy
They are cracking down on illegal speech (in the form of blatant CP) in addition to legal speech (in the form of suggestive, but non-pornographic pictures anyone under 18).

EDIT: Unless I am mistaken?

mithrilskeleton··on The Pirate Bay Moves to .SE Domain To Prevent Domain Seizure
Do you know the ease or possibility of scraping all the magnet links and creating a sort of Pirate bay on a flash drive? Because if so, they really live up to their motto.
mithrilskeleton··on Kodak files for bankruptcy
Kodak joins a lot of older companies that just cant keep up with the changing world. Take RIM for example who said to the original iPhone “There is no way that phone can do what they showed off on stage.” It is sad but bound to become more commonplace. Blockbuster and Circuit City also come to mind as companies that used to dominate, but are now long gone.
mithrilskeleton··on New Stanford class on Cryptography
Ok, then i guess i have to take it now. Just because you're paranoid, doesn't mean no one's out to get you.
mithrilskeleton··on Cablegate: Microsoft spied for USA
The cable says " Microsoft's General Manager, Gonzalo Fernandez (protect), showed EconOff an internal PDVSA memo which claimed that all U.S. software companies had a "back door" mechanism whereby the U.S. government could at any time access information, citing the supposed CALEA Law (United States Law of Assistance in Communications for Security Systems)." This seems fishy to me
mithrilskeleton··on MyBitcoin Incident Report - August 4th 2011
When will people learn that trusting a (possibly unreliable) third party with your money was exactly the sort of thing that bitcoin was supposed to obviate?
