miki_oomiri··on AliExpress runs silent WebAudio fingerprinting that breaks Bluetooth multipoint
How? How would a browser "know" what classifies as finger printing? Literally every piece of the engine is used for finger printing.

It can be mitigated, a bit, but I don't see how browsers can win that battle.

Finger printing is a lost battle in my opinion, unless we drastically reduce what a web engine can do (like Tor does).

Building the SVN Aviary Mozilla branch by Blake. Good old time.
miki_oomiri··on How OpenAI delivers low-latency voice AI at scale
People are migrating to the "End Of Thought" triggers. Deepgram does that wonderfully.
miki_oomiri··on Show HN: Live Sun and Moon Dashboard with NASA Footage
Looking at the sun daily timelapse. It looks like the rotation of the sun is more that 1/365th of the sun diameter. What am i missing?
miki_oomiri··on FIM – Linux framebuffer image viewer
Man… you guys are ruthless. The dude provides a free tool to use, and used a cute named, have opinions about code, and used the most common used photo on his webpage, and suddenly he gets insulted on a public forum by strangers. He's not perfect. Nobody is. He has opinions, and might not even know about Lenna.

You people are gross.

miki_oomiri··on Tell HN: Chrome says "suspicious download" when trying to download yt-dlp
Isn’t firefox using Google “safe browsing” database ?
miki_oomiri··on Push events into a running session with channels
Bluebubble is the way to go for this.

I've created an iCloud account for my llm. On my Mac, I created another user account, not an admin, just regular. Linked to the iCloud account. Installed Bluebubble.

And now I can chat with my AI via iMessage, via my Apple watch, or my homepods. It works beautifully.

miki_oomiri··on Show HN: I built a sub-500ms latency voice agent from scratch
When I speak to an agent, siri, or whatnot, I am always worried that they will assume I'm done talking when I'm thinking. Sometimes I need a many-seconds pause. Even maybe a minute… For Sire and such, I want to ask something simple "Hey Siri, remind me to call dad tomorrow". Easy. But for Claude and such, I want to go on a long monolog (20s, a minute, multi-minutes).

To me, be the best solution would be semantic + keyword + silence.

Hey Agent, blablablabla, thank you.

Hey Agent, blablablabla, please.

Hey Agent, blablablabla, oops cancel.

miki_oomiri··on I’m joining OpenAI
But it just codes. And are console / ide tools.

Openclaw is so so so much more.

miki_oomiri··on Improving the performance of WAT parser
Not gonna argue with "who said what".

All I can tell you with certainty is that the people who designed and funded webgl/asmjs/llvm efforts at Mozilla (Alon, Vlad, Brendan, …) clearly understood that wasm was a needed companion alongside JS (and its DOM&co bindings). Not a replacement. I was part of these conversations.

I understand why people would think it was a JS killer, but that's a naive way of looking at it.

miki_oomiri··on Improving the performance of WAT parser
> The whole "it's not meant to replace JS" thing was just to reduce pushback from JS devs.

It was born at the same time as webgl, at the time of Jit optimisation for js engines. As a subset of js first, then as wasm as we know it. It was originally for games and performance on the web.

At no point there was a conversation about "replacing js", but more like, "js can't do these stuff. let's have something else".

miki_oomiri··on Improving the performance of WAT parser
You have the wrong understanding about wasm. It's absolutely not supposed to be replacing HTML, CSS or JS.

And yes wasm is used wildly. On the web for expensive computation (Google earth, figma, autocad, unity games) or server side for portability and sandboxing (Cloudflare workers, fastly, …)

miki_oomiri··on Claude in Chrome
It seems like they are using the debugger.
miki_oomiri··on Claude in Chrome
No, this can't be used for remote code. Only existing local code.
miki_oomiri··on Claude in Chrome
I'd very curious to know how they managed to deal with this then. There's always the option of embedding quickjs-vm within the addon (as a wasm module), but that would not allow the executed code to access the document.
miki_oomiri··on Claude in Chrome
I don't think they mean executing locally JS code generated server-side.
miki_oomiri··on Mozilla appoints new CEO Anthony Enzor-Demeo
Yep. I’ll die on the hill. Engineer and designers. That’s all we really need.

We started with a very very small team and did all the heavy lifting. Then they started adding PM, marketing, market people, HR, …

We were striving when we were not drowning in meetings, KPIs, management, emails, …

miki_oomiri··on Mozilla appoints new CEO Anthony Enzor-Demeo
If I were the CEO, I would:

- focus 100% on Firefox Desktop & Mobile - just a fast solid minimalist browser (no AI, no BS) - other features should be addons - privacy centric - builtin, first-class, adblocker - run on donations - partner with Kagi - layoff 80% of the non-tech employees

I worked for them for many years, I guarantee you that Mozilla will be fine without all the non-sense people, just put engineers in charge.

miki_oomiri··on Firefox profiles: Private, focused spaces for all the ways you browse
It blows my mind.

I can't have profile without having a "Sign In" button in my toolbar. Mozilla… please. How is it possible, to ship a feature and do that…

miki_oomiri··on This map is not upside down

Nope. You're confusing up and front.

miki_oomiri··on Altered states of consciousness induced by breathwork accompanied by music
Yes. But qualia, subjective experience, state of consciousness, phenomenal consciousness, etc. these are not good definitions (as asked by OP). These are just all talking about the same thing without a proper definition that would allow us to define its different states. Measure, quantify, understand, sort, etc etc.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hard_problem_of_consciousness

miki_oomiri··on Altered states of consciousness induced by breathwork accompanied by music
That's a not a definition. Just another fuzzy word to say subjective experience.
miki_oomiri··on Should we remove XSLT from the web platform?
The quality of the github comments: accusing developers of being dictators, being overly emotionally, the hate towards people who actually made the web happen (Smaug, Anne, Emilo, etc…), the "why not just…" or "hire more people" remarks...

For a browser developer, this is depressing. I've worked on Gecko for 10+ years, and we were constantly called names for absolutely any change we would do. Insulted and accused of the worst intentions.

I see it hasn't changed.

miki_oomiri··on Where's Firefox going next?
This all started with the "Engagement Team" like … 15+ years ago. I was there (part of the team). They started with mascots, being cute, having this infantilizing attitude towards users.

They killed the dino logo:

We were hackers, we became "cute and inclusive" (nothing wrong about inclusive… it just became the brand).

Fuck this.

Edit: I said 10+ years… but actually, it was more like 15 years ago.

miki_oomiri··on Claude Integrations
"Chrome" ? What do you mean? Gemini?
miki_oomiri··on Mozilla is eliminating its advocacy division
90% of 2010’s Mozilla employees are gone. Most core employees are gone. Most Firefox-era developers are gone.

Most PM and directors were brought in after firefox got big.

They can’t even find a CEO.

The people who made Mozilla great are now working somewhere else.
