mikeevans··on The Steam Controller Configurator's Untapped Power
I actually took those paddles off for the same reason! Don't forget that you can remove them :)
mikeevans··on The Steam Controller Configurator's Untapped Power
You might want to check out the Xbox One Elite controller. Sounds like what you're looking for - a much better feeling, and it makes a regular Xbox One controller feel cheap.

How early did you get in line?
mikeevans··on Dropbox Could Have One of 2017’s Most Interesting IPOs
Any reason that you use it over Google Drive?
mikeevans··on 'Clean your desk': My Amazon interview experience
Perhaps. But 1) you can rent that book for a fraction of the price (Amazon currently shows it for ~$60) and 2) just because students have to pay for expensive books doesn't mean they have extra money to spend on a second computer.
mikeevans··on 'Clean your desk': My Amazon interview experience
Seems a bit unreasonable to ask students (who likely already have tons of debt) to purchase an additional laptop just to take exams.

Groan.

mikeevans··on What Future Java Might Look Like
So just like Kotlin then?
mikeevans··on Nintendo Switch – New Video Game System [video]
Biggest pain point for the Nintendo eShop? If you own a 3DS and a Wii U and want to own a Virtual Console game for both - you're stuck with buying it two times.

Android has this built into the OS already. It will even turn off cellular data once a cap has been hit.
mikeevans··on A South Korean Copy of Snapchat Takes Off in Asia
My random guess is that the last I heard - Snapchat was still on AppEngine. The first results on a Google search (so I don't know with any confidence if it's true) say that the appspot domain is blocked in China.
mikeevans··on Introducing 1Password for Teams
This is pretty awesome. Super excited to try it out.

What's not awesome though is how long they've been working on the refresh of the Android app with fingerprint support. Demoed in May, it's now November and they aren't even ready to launch it on their beta channel.

mikeevans··on WhatsApp Co-Founder Donates $1M to FreeBSD Foundation
"Last week, I donated one million dollars to the FreeBSD Foundation, which supports the open source operating system that has helped millions of programmers pursue their passions and bring their ideas to life. I’m actually one of those people. I started using FreeBSD in the late 90s, when I didn’t have much money and was living in government housing. In a way, FreeBSD helped lift me out of poverty – one of the main reasons I got a job at Yahoo! is because they were using FreeBSD, and it was my operating system of choice. Years later, when Brian and I set out to build WhatsApp, we used FreeBSD to keep our servers running. We still do. I’m announcing this donation to shine a light on the good work being done by the FreeBSD Foundation, with the hope that others will also help move this project forward. We’ll all benefit if FreeBSD can continue to give people the same opportunity it gave me – if it can lift more immigrant kids out of poverty, and help more startups build something successful, and even transformative."

Definitely interested in reviving the existing one, but preferably in DC. :)
mikeevans··on Project Ara – Google's modular phone project

mikeevans··on TestFlight Owner Burstly Acquired By Apple
Android now has first party testing support via the Play Store. I'd imagine it's hard to compete with that.
