mikecoles··on Gut epithelial barrier damage caused by dishwasher detergents and rinse aids
No. You use the third choice, that you already mentioned. Eat at home. The quality is better. The price is cheaper. The service is personalized.
mikecoles··on Welcome to the New Lifehacker
What is new on the site? Looks like the old grift?

mikecoles··on How often do you hear about WFH directly saving lives?
Two more words: really sucks

Traffic jams, as horrible as they are, are quicker and more tolerable that mass transit.

mikecoles··on California's Biggest Flex
CA's ability to flex diminished after 1849. Now, all it has is fluff.
mikecoles··on Windows 11 is amazing, I left Linux
Still not worth it for the price tag of "free".
mikecoles··on [dead]
The same reason non-FAANG employees look down at FAANG employees. The FAANG folk think they're elite. The non-FAANG view FAANGs as senstive, overpaid, overhyped divas.

Unrelated, depending on your location on the planet, ballsy username.

mikecoles··on Ask HN: Is "partner" HN's "one word fits all?"
Thank you. I support "pelvic affiliate" over the bland "partner".
mikecoles··on What incident response tool do you use at work?
ICS/NIMS.

Said as a joke, but if your organization is just starting out, modeling after these frameworks is a solid foundation.

mikecoles··on Platform Like Triplebyte?
I think their gimmick was bogus. As a non-programmer I scored "exceptionally well", or some such similar wording, on the quiz I took on a whim. My thought was that everyone who took the entrance test was given the same result and that it was just a scam.
mikecoles··on The most minimal blogging platform in the known universe
The humor kept me reading.
mikecoles··on Ask HN: Is there a MIT-like FOSS license that prevents LLMs from scanning?
Just a thought, what about a dummy/honeypot path in robots.txt? If any request is made related to that path, block connections from that source?
mikecoles··on Ask HN: What companies have blown you away with their customer support?
Sticking with local "Mom and Pop" shops, I'm routinely given amazing support.
mikecoles··on Ask HN: What are your preferred alternatives to the Raspberry Pi?
OrangePi. Odroid. Pine64.
mikecoles··on Comcast Falls as NBC Owner Sheds Broadband, Cable Customers
Comcast/Xfinity sold an elderly family member 800Mbps service. One person in the residence. Comcast/Xfinity told them this was needed so streaming videos could be played.
mikecoles··on Can a tea light heat a greenhouse?
When doing field work near an orchard, "wind mills" were noticed scattered across the fields. I asked what the wind mills were for, thinking they were pumping water for irrigation. I was told they keep the fruits safe from frost. It took me many years to understand how that worked.
mikecoles··on Prof said doing CS to become a web developer is using a cannon to kill a fly
I heard similar to "A computer is to computer science as a telescope is to astronomy". Dijkstra?
mikecoles··on Conservatives are increasingly knives out for the nation's top cyber agency
CISA and TSA are sister agencies. They're both just theatrics and money funnels.
mikecoles··on Odorant diffuser improves memory and neural functioning in older adults
The old cliche about stopping to smell the roses might have some validity.
mikecoles··on The Supreme Court could soon change the internet forever
Your analogy has failed. You assume the increase will come from noise rather than any signal that is being culled.
mikecoles··on The OSI Deprogrammer
An amazing analogy. Thank you. I've recently been asked the OSI layers in an interview. I think it was done as a joke.
mikecoles··on AI-created child sexual abuse images 'threaten to overwhelm internet'
A concern is the availability will drive people to seek more dangerous behavior.
mikecoles··on Low income UK homes 'should be given free heat pumps' to meet climate targets
"Free"
mikecoles··on Why Ten Billion Snow Crabs Disappeared Off the Coast of Alaska
Changes, occurring for decades, caused an immediate die off. Yep. Got it. Sure.
mikecoles··on National Center for Home Food Preservation
If a child inquired, it is certain the lesson would taught. Don't blame past generations for the lack of interest from the current.
mikecoles··on TSA let a gun on flight: WA state senator arrested in Hong Kong
Glad to have you confirm you are indeed clueless about guns and their uses.
mikecoles··on Self-Checkout Is a Failed Experiment
It's faster.
mikecoles··on Netflix raises prices despite password crackdown success
Ads.
mikecoles··on Detroit wants to be the first big American city to tax land value
Think of it as part of a communist plan and you'll see the why and who start to make sense.
mikecoles··on US retail sales rose for the sixth-straight month
No kidding, you don't say.

Less purchases are being made, but inflation props up the "sales" increase: "Retail sales, which are adjusted for seasonality but not inflation, grew 0.7% in September from the prior month"

mikecoles··on Ask HN: Migrating from Google Domains to Squarespace?
Porkbun.
