mike97··on Asahi Linux Progress Report: Linux 7.2
> And I bet you can soon get a ThinkPad with the same intel chip, that should have similar battery life.

Yes you can, speaking from experience. I have the T14 gen 7 with the 75 wh battery, and the 356H CPU, it only uses 4-6w/hour when coding with a lot of browser tabs open, a headless VM running, docker containers and so on, online meetings is about 6-8w/hour, this is under Linux, with default power setting from Opensuse.

It can easily last more than 10 working hours, I limit mine to 80% charge as it's more than enough for when I'm on the go.

> AWS / GCP can invoice with EU reverse charge so I don’t even pay VAT. With Hetzner I have to claim it back at the end of the year.

Hetzner can do the same as long as you have a valid VAT code.

> OpenAI and Anthropic are both offering coding plans that are possibly severely subsidized

So does Google, in fact I believe their antigravity limits for Opus and Sonnet for the $20 plan has higher limits than CC $20 plan, and there is no weekly cap or I couldn't get it even with heavy usage, and then you have a separate limit for Gemini cli and for other models from antigravity.

mike97··on What Are the Latest Scraping APIs or Services/Websites?
I am actually working on a scraping API for serps, currently it only supports Google, may add more search engines if it gets any traction, it isn't ready yet, but hopefully it will be in a couple of days, if you want to give it a go let me know and I can give you a subscription in exchange for some feedback.
mike97··on Ask HN: Who wants to be hired? (March 2024)
Location: Europe/Romania

Remote: Only remote

Willing to relocate: No

Technologies:

- Python, mostly web apps using Django(api, webhooks, handling payments/subscriptios) and data mining.

- C#, I haven't used it in the last 3 years, but I can get up to speed with it pretty fast as I've used it in the past.

- Docker and docker compose for local development and production deployment.

- VueJs/Alpinjs - used it to build a SPA and also as a replacement for jquery for small interactive pages, pretty comfortable with it.

- Linux - using it as my daily drive and of course on my servers, I know my way around the terminal.

Résumé/CV: Available on request over email.

mike97··on I'd rather build my house with my own earth than go into debt [video]
From a quick Google search: 1m3 of concrete = 150l water + 250kg cement + 700kg sand + 1200kg aggregates.

Even if you used just cement and water I think you would get more than 12L from 25kg.

mike97··on What you need to know about Wi-Fi 6 (IEEE 802.11ax)
Nice, in Romania it's about 8 euros for 1 gig, unfortunately 10 isn't available in my city yet.

Edit: Just checked and for 10 G it would be about 10 euros and for 2.5 G - 9 euros, that's a very good upgrade, probably they assume that most users won't take advantage of the full bandwidth.

For reddit you can use Infinity or other reddit clients, I use Infinity and I don't even need an account to subscribe to subredits that I want to follow and for me it seems to be a lot faster then the official reddit app.

That is a good idea about comparing the 2 of them, some of things that we do better is offering a lifetime license and also the design is so much more intuitive.

About the grammar errors, I should probably ask a native English speaker to check them.

This is what I thought about the name too, but a lot of people don't know what the app does even after checking the website, personally I think I would get it directly from the name. About the logo, which part do you think doesn't looks professional? The color/font? Or the ways the letters are put together? Or maybe everything?

I really appreciate your feedback, if you would like to try the app 30 days for free let me know.

Hi guys, How much time do you spend offering customer support? Answering the same question over and over again? We may have a solution for you, you can test it for free, and we only expect some feedback in exchange, it's a desktop app(right now working only on windows, we have plans to release it for macOS after some validation)

Value proposition: "Offering support or doing marketing/sales on social media/forums/skype can be a very repetitive task or if you work in a big company offering support it may be hard to remember the canned responses that were set by someone else, this is why we come up with SavedReplies, using it you can start using the same canned responses everywhere on your computer."

This is mostly intended for people who support or do marketing/sales on social media/forums and other types of sites like the one mentioned, anyway, if you are interested I can provide more info
