middus··on Berlin’s Popular Shopping Streets Will Go Car-Free
S-Bahn means Schnellbahn, not Straßenbahn - so it's probably not ironic.
middus··on CamelCamelCamel: $44.6k disk failure, down until Feb 3
If the only backups they have are so old that they are deemed obsolete, that's essentially having no backups at all.
middus··on Britain's 'concentration camp' in Russia
How do the Dutch come into play here? I am confused.
middus··on Libor: the bankers who fixed the world’s most important number
So what? This is not the US where people are sentenced to multiple life sentences. It's the UK, which has a different view on crime and punishment.
middus··on Trello hits 12M users, launches Power-Ups platform
I think he is saying that it works for people who are either "at work" or "at home". Once you want to have your work notifactions during your leisure time, it gets complicated.
middus··on Failing the startup game at Unbabel
Maybe he has to support a family or relatives - who are you to judge how he spends his hard earned money?
middus··on Why a Six-Figure Salary No Longer Means You’re Rich
Just because your job is in Manhattan, does not necessarily mean that you need to live in Manhattan (especially not in that $15k/month penthouse).

middus··on Auto-expiring TODO notes in Ruby
Alternatively, you could continue using your editor of choice for editing and use grep to identify TODOs in your code.

Don't know. Are they behind a paywall?
middus··on Amazon Sales Take a Hit in States With Online Tax
I concur. But from what I've read online, you'd be the only person that "suits up" to go shopping at Walmart. (Do not live in America, though.)
middus··on Earth to Mozilla: Come back home
Ordinary users do not want to disable JavaScript. Hell, they don't even know what it is. Advanced users like you can still use NoScript or about:config.
middus··on Writing Idiomatic Python Book
This marketing site fails to answer the most important question: What's the value proposition? Why should I care writing "Pythonic" code?
middus··on Two New YC Partners: Justin Kan and Aaron Harris
Fortunately his qualifications are largely irrelevant for most people reading this. ;)
middus··on Empathy
Alternative: Toyota MR2 in France :).
middus··on You Should Start a Blog
I'd love to write. Which pen should I use?

Short answer: it does not matter. Writing matters.

middus··on Arscoin, our own custom cryptocurrency
Off topic: as someone who grew up learning British English, ars[e]coin is a very unfortunate name.
middus··on [dead]
What's your point? That it's okay if police in Canada do it, too?
middus··on MacKenzie Bezos Writes Amazon Review for Jeff Bezos Biography
The falsity of a given (prominent!) data point just puts the care and diligence of the author into question and plants doubt in the reader's mind. It doesn't imply the validity of an opposing narrative.
middus··on Everpix was great. This is how it died
Top of my head: Patrick, Thomas and probably a lot of other HN regulars.

Looking besonders technology: lawyers, marketing and branding consultants, and, last but not least, management consultants.

$2000 is not outrageous.

middus··on Everpix was great. This is how it died
Let me break this down a bit: USD 500k at USD 2k/man day = 250 man days

A US man year has ~235 man days, so that's just roughly 1 external FTE for a year. Not so much, actually.

middus··on Introducing Google Helpouts
Think about it: most Google users did not even use Google Reader. So: no, this does not happen in "real life", just in geek circles.
middus··on Coding Interview Tips
I think he's looking for people that are fit for the job AND the chat over coffee.
middus··on Poll: What are your liked and disliked programming languages?
I just upvoted "php - Like" and "php - Dislike", because I both love and hate working with php.

I guess I'm not alone...

middus··on Bad Indian Programmers
What is a non-relational object-relational mapping framework?
middus··on Android recording all your moments on Google Map
My life as a consultant confuses the heck out of Google Location History/ Now/ Maps.

Hotels are identified as my home address, client sites as work... come to think of it, maybe Google's right in the end and my perception of having a flat that's my home is off. ;)

middus··on Humble Indie Bundle 9 released
You can buy this for Mark of the Ninja alone - it is gameplay-wise really great and a very artistic game.
middus··on How to Go From Google Engineer to First-Time CTO
Fun fact: "Generous amount of vacations every year (5-6 weeks)" corresponds with European employment standards :).

I have 28 days + Christmas Eve + New Year's Eve (+ bank holidays), which is not particularly exceptional in Germany.
