mertd··on Micron CEO Says Memory Supply Will Be Much Tighter in 2027 and 2028 Than in 2026
You joke but I don't see why mass optimization shouldn't be possible given the cost of mass refactoring went to effectively zero at this point.
mertd··on Ask A Monk – A digital wilderness for thoughts with no immediate answer
Off to a not so great start: https://askamonk.online/scroll/what-is-6-plus-7-90c801
mertd··on The Amazon tax
I'm equally confused here. Who searches "Seth Godin The Knot" and if the first result isn't that exact book, goes and buys a book about knots or weddings or something? The book should be there in plain view at the top of organic best matches. Did they really test this "yield" claim?

> Going to the gym is very boring for me.

Try group exercise studios, if you have one available. The classes are usually one hour. It makes planning very easy. Same time, every week. All you need to do is to show up.

mertd··on The struggle of resizing windows on macOS Tahoe
I must be the minority that barely noticed any changes after upgrading to Tahoe.
mertd··on Eat Real Food
Good luck getting Americans eat sufficient broccoli to source their protein without also adding a ton of cheese or fat/sugar based sauces.
mertd··on Eat Real Food
My personal anecdotal experience is that once you make a conscious effort to avoid added sugars, your taste buds eventually recalibrate over the course of a few months and you end up perceiving stuff with added sugar as way too sweet.
mertd··on Clicks Communicator
They have a standalone keyboard product that snaps with magsafe.
mertd··on Apple Maps claims it's 29,905 miles away
That's a phone compass problem no? Perhaps the specific way you're holding the phone is confusing for the algorithm?
mertd··on What is the nicest thing a stranger has ever done for you?
There is a million ways where that interaction goes sideways and becomes a drama between the parents nowadays.
mertd··on Kilauea erupts, destroying webcam [video]
What's the play here? Afaik there are no monetary perks to being a top maps contributor.
mertd··on Kilauea erupts, destroying webcam [video]
I was reading about shield volcanoes and it sounds like the low viscosity lava is the defining feature. So the flow is par for the course.
mertd··on Have I been Flocked? – Check if your license plate is being watched
That's not very useful?

For homeowners, the real estate transactions are public and majority of white collar people have LinkedIn accounts.

mertd··on The Great Downzoning
Did you read or even skim the article? It mentions fire safety codes specifically, violation of which is the very reason that fire happened not because it was a tall building. Do you understand why California wild fires are more lethal as of recently?
mertd··on Airbus A320 Fly by wire corrupted by radiation in flight
Also not very clear how they attributed the failure to solar radiation.
mertd··on Credit report shows Meta keeping $27B off its books through advanced geometry
I meant to say it's not new information. The blog post I linked is from a month ago. It is also more accessible for casual reading.
mertd··on Credit report shows Meta keeping $27B off its books through advanced geometry
This is hardly a secret. Matt Levine blogged about it: https://www.bloomberg.com/opinion/newsletters/2025-10-29/put...
mertd··on Google's new 'Aluminium OS' project brings Android to PC
The start menu cluster, incessant pushing of Edge and OneDrive are the reasons I installed Linux after about a decade of not using desktop Linux outside of work. I am genuinely shocked and impressed how clean and snappy the experience is (Arch + KDE Plasma). Thanks to Valve, Windows games run just fine, too. Not going back...
mertd··on Survey: a third of senior developers say over half their code is AI-generated
Do coding in non-assembly programming languages make you a worse programmer in the long run because you are not exposed to the deepest level of complexity?
mertd··on Waymo granted permit to begin testing in New York City
Bike infra is forever stuck in the limbo of building half-assed solutions and then complaining not enough ridership is taking it up.
mertd··on California unemployment rises to 5.5%, worst in the U.S. as tech falters
It's really hard to reply without making a statement on politics but you really should diversify your news consumption.
mertd··on Bypassing Google's big anti-adblock update
The author claims to be 8 years old in 2015. So that makes them still a teenager. It is pretty cool IMO.
mertd··on Volvo delivers 5,000th electric semi
I wouldn't recognize the Volvo EV semi pictured in the article while driving. It looks generic.
mertd··on Few Americans pay for news when they encounter paywalls

mertd··on Amazon reveals first color Kindle, new Kindle Scribe, and more
Sorry but this is a bad take. The active light on "screens" is stimulating, causes eye strain and keeps you awake. The two technologies are not the same.
mertd··on Homebound: The Long-Term Rise in Time Spent at Home Among U.S. Adults
You are correct. Technically it is a zoning problem. But such zoning only became feasible after cars went mainstream. There are many self perpetuating elements of exclusionary zoning and car dependency.
