memoryfault··on The curse of the gifted programmer (ESR's email to Torvalds)
>At the time the email was written, Linus was 30.

I don't see what your point is. I clearly didn't mean that he was literally a child.

memoryfault··on Dynamic_cast(C)++
shared_ptr & weak_ptr are way cooler
memoryfault··on The curse of the gifted programmer (ESR's email to Torvalds)
I think the intent was to make Linus feel like the child he was (is?). I thought it worked. Linus is quite patronizing in practically all of his e-mails, so I don't see why others wouldn't return the favor.
memoryfault··on The curse of the gifted programmer (ESR's email to Torvalds)
Yes, and so he moved on to an easier to manage project by starting to write git from scratch.
memoryfault··on IPhone hacked via Mobile Safari and SMS database hijacked (at Pwn2Own 2010)
Not so much hijacked as it was downloaded to the server...
memoryfault··on Digg: 40x Performance Increase by Sorting in PHP Rather than MySQL
I remember reading a while back how Digg had tables with thousands of columns. I know MySQL isn't the fastest, but a speedup for Digg really isn't that impressive.
memoryfault··on Dear Steve Ballmer
I'm guessing its the first reason. I guarantee you IE has native code running.

Gigantic type set? Ok. Irrelevant background images? No consistency amongst other UI elements?!

Please explain. All I see is consistency in this UI style. And the background images look pretty relevant to me.

memoryfault··on Android app can recognize a person, pull up their status updates
I don't see how useful this is, unless you are just really bad with faces.
memoryfault··on Doing the Microsoft Shuffle: Algorithm Fail in Browser Ballot
I doubt they put a dev on something like this...probably a 3rd party vendor or intern.
memoryfault··on Doing the Microsoft Shuffle: Algorithm Fail in Browser Ballot
Is this even what is shipping with Win7 EU? I would assume that the real browser choice screen is not in a browser window, and that this website was created quickly just to give people an idea of what it might look like. Do we even know who actually wrote the code?
memoryfault··on GoDaddy store your passwords in clear and may access your VPS without permission
Hostmonster.com also stores your password in plaintext. When I called customer support once they asked me for the last 4 characters of my password. So, I asked the support guy "Can you see just the last 4 or can you see my whole password?" He told me he could see my whole password. W. T. F.
memoryfault··on Markets are efficient if and only if P = NP
He can prove that, but he can't use LaTeX?
memoryfault··on Linus Torvalds on git (video)
Man, he really hates CVS.
memoryfault··on AmEx: "We discourage the use of special characters because..."
Not to me. You shouldn't compromise the security of your entire system just to safeguard against certain keylogger scenarios.
memoryfault··on [dead]
Why is this on HN?
memoryfault··on Microsoft Reveals the Science Behind Project Natal for Xbox 360
I got to play the Natal Ricochet game this summer and I must say that it worked flawlessly. The only thing that didn't feel natural was the response time, which they said they were trying to improve.
