megaremote··on A new credit bubble gets ready to burst
They have them because people are wiling to pay for them. People are willing to pay because they think they are worth it. I would guess that the fact they are bigger make people think they cost a lot more to build, when they do not.
megaremote··on What We Want Doesn’t Always Make Us Happy
> because we are being overpromised on how much happiness those wants will deliver.

How can we be over promised when it is only us who can determine how much happiness we get out of stuff we buy?

megaremote··on Why Was Mini USB Deprecated in Favor of Micro USB?
> My Lenovo X1 yoga is way more durable than my phone. My kindle reader is too.

Neither of them are water proof, so how does that work?

megaremote··on Why Was Mini USB Deprecated in Favor of Micro USB?
I still don't get this:

megaremote··on Why Was Mini USB Deprecated in Favor of Micro USB?
I don't see how that can be true: https://i2.wp.com/www.cheapharddrivesstorage.com/wp-content/...
megaremote··on "DigitalOcean Killed Our Company"
This is a 2 person startup, one of them was enroute to portugal on holiday.
megaremote··on Does the news reflect what we die from?
But our worries are influenced by what we see on the news.
megaremote··on Does the news reflect what we die from?
If the news does to proportionally show what we die from, then we all focus on the wrong areas, and vote in politicians who come up with solutions to the wrong areas.

For me, the most likely way I have of dying is a car hitting me. Heart disease is not an issue for me as I exercise every single day and eat, and cancer is not a concern as I do the above and anything else will not affect it significantly.

megaremote··on The Boring Company will develop an underground “people mover” for Las Vegas
Asteroid?
megaremote··on Should Failing Phish Tests Be a Fireable Offense?
Yes, it does. You should have been let go.
megaremote··on Should Failing Phish Tests Be a Fireable Offense?
So, do the security guys get fired when they misconfigure a firewall or give the wrong settings for a database?
megaremote··on Should Failing Phish Tests Be a Fireable Offense?
> Nobody thought this was unreasonable.

How could you ever possibly know that?

megaremote··on Huawei’s Ace in the Hole: Undersea Cables
Right. And it doesn't matter if the burglars have keys to your house if they don't know the alarm code, right?
megaremote··on Scrum is fragile, not Agile
> Daily standup

Change them so that people talk about what is blocked then.

> Scrum master

Tricky, like anyone who doesn't want to adapt.

> Technical debt

Create tickets for debt, put them on the backlog.

> Poor product owners

Tricky.

megaremote··on Robinhood Is Set to Raise at Least $200 Million in New Funding
Yeah, but it used to have $1000s in it.
megaremote··on Huawei P30 Pro camera review
They are no longer R cameras. They have removed the mirror and gotten good results.
megaremote··on Paris Will Create the City's Largest Gardens Around the Eiffel Tower
Hopefully this park will be full of plants and grass rather than gravel like the other parks in Paris.
megaremote··on I was wrong about the iPad Pro
Lucky them.
megaremote··on Technical Debt
> I spent weeks working on the new architecture, refactoring the streaming code

Seems weird to do that without talking to your boss about it.

megaremote··on Apple introduces 8-core MacBook Pro
If you are surprised that Apple charge more, welcome to the real world.
megaremote··on Apple introduces 8-core MacBook Pro
> and it certainly doesn't look like Apple did anything to improve thermal capacity in this refresh

Well, it says they did, but I guess you know better.

megaremote··on Apple introduces 8-core MacBook Pro
Apple has already released a fix for the screen issue, with a longer cable less likely to break. This was months ago.

They have also never said that 2 and 3 keyboard were fixes for the keyboard issue.

I am surprised someone in the business can be so far behind the news.

megaremote··on How to do hard things
> The advice to break a hard problem down into simpler pieces good, but I feel like that is often difficult without proper domain knowledge. In many cases, knowing how to break apart a problem like that is how you become an expert in the first place.

No, you don't always have that choice.

What you do is you break it up, best you can, then try to build each part. If that doesn't work, you break it up differently.

megaremote··on Automakers Are Rethinking the Timetable for Fully Autonomous Cars
Road are so expensive as they are, you want to ask for even more spending on roads?
megaremote··on Google suspends some business with Huawei
Ok, yes, that is true. But the USA commits war crimes and doesn't want to be brought before court over them. So I should stop using US goods if I gave a shit about human rights, right?
megaremote··on Google suspends some business with Huawei
> The US perceives the economic relationship with China to be one way.

This is ridiculous. No one thinks it is one way. The spanish sending south american gold back to spain was one way.

What is actually happening, is some people think it is unfairly biased towards China.

megaremote··on I turned my interview task for Google into a startup
This startup is the equivalent of a task management app. I guess you can call that a startup, and app to help you manager your exercises. There are only a 1,000 others out there.
megaremote··on I turned my interview task for Google into a startup
Eh, I would way prefer that. Much easier. I just refuse take home tests now.
megaremote··on Driverless electric truck starts deliveries on Swedish public road
If you have to go to the extreme to make your argument, maybe you are wrong?

Yes, it is disconcerting to remove so many jobs. There needs to be a solution to that.

megaremote··on I Charged $18k for a Static HTML Page
No, he clearly didn't. He only worked out the costs at the end.
