Languages are foundations on which frameworks and design patterns can be built to solve common problems. The trap that we fall into is trying to fit all of our problems into those common ones that frameworks and design patterns solve. This leaves potential edge cases that become bigger problems.
PHP can be has hacky or as elegant as you make it. The versatility of that makes it a great utility. It also makes it very approachable. This is a big contributor to why it runs a big part of the web.
C64's competition were the Atari 400, 800, XL and XE lines. Most games came out for both platforms. Atari's player missle system was both an advantage and a disadvantage in some respects.
The ST and Amiga were competitors but completely different platforms than their respective predecessors.
When you're talking Mac - the Apple II would have been the contemporary of the C64 and Atari 8-bit lines. There were games on Apple computers as well, but I suspect not as many. They were completely dysfunctional and the Apple IIgs was a really fun machine.
Nexmo has great analytics that show failures. Plivo will just fail and not log it and not return a failure, so I'm migrating away from them.

A good interviewer can get a sense for someone's ego vs. assertiveness pretty easily, but so many interviewers are looking at experience and skillset over character, personality and style. Experience and skill set are important but the other aspects are often overlooked. As an example, a hands-on development manager needs to not only be screened for the development chops but also if they are mature enough to handle the decisions that need to be made in that management role.
