mdibaiee··on MacBook Pro Insomnia
I thought so, but I installed Sleep Aid, and when I disable "Wake for Maintenance", Sleep Aid gives me a stern warning:

> Disabling "Wake for Maintenance" can lead to this Mac waking every few seconds. Please select "Disable Wi-Fi" to help with this

So it seems like actually Enabling this setting somehow prevents the Macbook from waking up every few seconds... presumably due to Wi-Fi? Enabling it seems like the recommendation by Sleep Aid anyway

mdibaiee··on Pkg.go.dev Is Down
Seems like wider outage of Google Cloud Run services, can anyone confirm?
mdibaiee··on Google is already pushing WEI into Chromium
For people who want to put something like this, here is the code snippet:

  <span id='browser' class='hidden'>
    This website is designed for <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" href="https://firefox.com/">Firefox</a>, a web browser that respects your privacy.
  </span>

  <script>
    if (window.chrome) {
      document.getElementById('browser').className = '';
    }
  </script>
Class .hidden must hide the element somehow, in this case I do:

  .hidden { display: none; }

Hello! I'm a software engineer with 8 years experience, focused on backend development and infrastructure at the moment, but I have front-end and full-stack experience as well, and I'm happy to be an all-arounder for freelance projects!

Technologies: Rust, Go, Kotlin, Scala, TypeScript, CSS, HTML, React, Kubernetes, Docker, Linux, DevOps, GitLab, GitHub, Jenkins, Elasticsearch, Linkerd, Istio, Terraform, Helm, Supabase, Postgres, Ruby on Rails, etc.

I'm flexible with timezones, and I try to be a good async communicator: I do my best to reply early and keep people in the loop. I have been working remotely for the past 6 years.

Let's chat about your project!

mdibaiee··on Iran’s Internet Shutdown Hides a Deadly Crackdown
We are not asking for foreign countries to "replace the Ayatollahs" for us. What we are asking, is ending their diplomatic relations with this government, or at least severing it, instead of trying to strengthen their diplomatic relations.

A deal between this dictatorship and the west will only strengthen them, leading to more oppression. A weakened dictatorship due to foreign pressure will make it easier for the people of Iran to replace them.

mdibaiee··on You can read my blog posts using curl
For me the reasoning is being able to distinguish between what needs to be wrapped, and what I would prefer not to be wrapped. In this case, code samples would preferrably not be wrapped. If I can wrap normal text manually, and keep code samples unwrapped, the client can disable wrapping entirely and see the code lines untouched.

This is possible with HTML and CSS, but not in plaintext. I think wasted space is something I can handle, but a badly wrapped code is something I dislike.

the code highlighting is really cool, well done! pretty sure it's possible to do something like that with jekyll by updating the `highlight` liquid tag to be able to render ascii highlighting in case of raw pages.
mdibaiee··on You can read my blog posts using curl
ah! that one includes a JavaScript I used to draw a canvas in the post body, hence the script showing up in the curl result. Might try to think of a solution for that.

Edit: fixed it by moving the script to its own file.

mdibaiee··on Ask HN: Alternate Email hosting to G Suite
I use Protonmail.com and I'm quite happy with their service. It does allow custom email domains, etc., but is paid.

mdibaiee··on Ask HN: What's the best corporate password manager?
LastPass is the worst piece of software I have ever worked with. We had a lot of trouble making sense out of its sluggish user interface and confusing terminology and more.

BitWarden is my choice, it's cheaper than alternatives, the UI is simple and easy to understand. It's open-source and battle-tested. You may want to self-host as well.

mdibaiee··on Switching from Chrome to Firefox
That's a good idea to propose to Mozilla for the new "Firefox Preview" which is a new version built from the ground up. They are open to innovations on that version and so far they already have made some experiments there.

You might want to try it out and leave this idea as a feedback on the app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.mozilla.fe...

mdibaiee··on Lightweight versions of websites without all the bloat
Hey! I just added Gnod tools to the list. I saw your pull-request for Gnoosic, but the other tools also fall in the same bucket.
mdibaiee··on Lightweight versions of websites without all the bloat
This is cool! I would appreciate pull-requests to add these to the repository

Otherwise I will take a look at them later on myself

mdibaiee··on Lightweight versions of websites without all the bloat
There is Stylus for Firefox and Chrome:

Chrome: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/stylus/clngdbkpkpe...

mdibaiee··on Awesome-lite-websites – A list of lightweight websites without all the bloat
It looks lightweight, but it's actually 3MB and uses JavaScript as a necessary dependency (so browsers without JavaScript will probably break it). The list is meant to include only websites with less than ~1MB of content and no, or very little JavaScript.

mdibaiee··on Unsupervised sentiment neuron
As far as I understand, it means that there must be a relation between a character's sentiment and what the next character can (/should) be for neural network to use this as a feature, am I right?

Does this mean we have unconsciously developed a language that exposes such relations?

mdibaiee··on Ask HN: What device do you use to read academic papers with?
I have a Kindle but I would never use it to read academic papers. Reading a PDF on Kindle is a real pain as

1. The screen size is too small for a readable, fit-to-screen experience

2. Scrolling is too sluggish to even try, you don't want to scroll horizontally and vertically on a PDF which is zoomed a few levels

Currently, laptop works much better I'd say.

mdibaiee··on Ask HN: Who wants to be hired? (October 2016)

   Location: Tehran, Iran
   Remote: Yes
   Willing to relocate: Yes (need a work visa)
   Technologies: Haskell, Machine Learning and Data Science (Junior), React, React Native, Node (Senior web developer)
   Résumé/CV: https://github.com/mdibaiee, email for a full resume
   Email: mdibaiee at aol.com
I've worked as a Senior Web Developer, and Mobile Application Developer in a startup for the past years. But I found interest in Data Science and started learning Machine Learning and Functional programming since then and I'm interested in working as a Junior/Intern Data Scientist. See my Github for a machine learning framework I wrote from scratch in Haskell [0] (still a work in progress as I learn more).

I would love to work in a team with learning culture, I like to learn more and do better everyday.

mdibaiee··on Firefox Hello – Browse the Web with Friends
They are working hard towards making Firefox (and every other web product) faster and more efficient, Servo.

I'm pretty sure Firefox will be faster than any other browser once Servo is used inside Firefox instead of Gecko, check this out:

mdibaiee··on Ask HN: How to Find Open Source Projects to Contribute To
This is how I do it:

First, I made a habit of contributing to open-source everyday, it might be hard in some situations such as traveling, etc, but it helps you learn A LOT. You won't believe how much I've learned by contributing to open-source.

First, explore GitHub, using http://github.com/explore or by just browsing people's profiles, etc.

Subscribe to Changelog Nightly which sends you a daily digest of interesting github repositories. https://changelog.com/nightly/

Also look for other places to contribute, such as Mozilla, you can contribute to Mozilla products easily, they mentor you (the mentors are friendly and great) and you will learn a lot working on big projects (There are a lot of opportunities to work on using JavaScript, see whatcanidoformozilla.com)

As you go further, you'll even find more ways to contribute.

Don't forget that creating something and publishing it as an open-source software is a contributon and it's great! So if you find an idea which might help people, code it, open-source it, share it!

Good luck!

mdibaiee··on Autocomplete using Tries
Hey, thanks for pointing these out, appreciated.

I'm not aiming for speed in this tutorial, it's just a tutorial to teach how Tries work, I knew arrays are faster in this kind of situation, even an array.filter can do the job, so you're right; but Tries are more flexible in my opinion, they can easily be customized for any use.

Anyway, I always like it when I get criticized, I learn something, thank you nostrademons!

Using vendor-prefix without falling back to the standard is not Mozilla's fault. Shitty code.
