You can upgrade to Windows 11 LTSC Enterprise IoT - it has leaner hardware requirements, but also less bloatware
mbs159··on The United States withdraws from UNESCO
The president, as head of arguably the most powerful military in the world, has enough military strength to enforce pretty much anything on anyone in the country if he wishes to.
mbs159··on My Self-Hosting Setup
You can use any ~2010 or newer laptop and install Proxmox on it. Voila, you have a server with low energy consumption.

> Would you feel the same about a game where the player runs around raping women, or capturing and lynching escaped slaves? It's just pixels!

If we are already okay with mass murder in video games, then absolutely yes.

> There are some things that should not be normalized in society.

Who gets to decide these things and based on what?

mbs159··on Valve confirms credit card companies pressured it to delist certain adult games
It's kind of fucked up that we are almost used to murder in various media (movies, games, etc.), meanwhile even slightly explicit sex is much more taboo. I do vaguely understand why this is (religious beliefs that formed our understanding of what is acceptable and what-not), but I am still surprised that this is how it is even with the rise of Atheism in recent decades.

I assume this is referring to churches in the US? I have never encountered this in Europe

mbs159··on Marines being mobilized in response to LA protests
I'm not from the US, so I may have get wrong, but didn't the Founding Fathers envision that people should be able to collectively rise up and overthrow a tyrant? Hence the right to keep and bear arms?

Of course, from a practical sense this does not seem possible, since the current US military, which a tyrant president would have direct control over, would be infinitely more powerful than a revolutionary group.

> doesn't make an objective goal for every person on earth to achieve.

The walkability of cities is linked to increased happiness in people, so there actually is merit to saying that it is objectively good. Walkability encourages you to literally walk past large amounts of people, local businesses and plenty of outdoor activities that you have the opportunity to take part in.

If the court orders cannot be enforced, it does indeed not matter
mbs159··on Trump administration halts Harvard's ability to enroll international students
> it's prohibited by the Constitution

Even if it is illegal, does not mean that anybody will actually do anything about it beside challenging the administration in court and giving them a slap on the wrist at best.

mbs159··on European Investment Bank to inject €70B in European tech
High speed rail seems like cool tech, but I guess it doesn't compare to the Boring Company Tesla tunnels or whatever.
mbs159··on European Investment Bank to inject €70B in European tech
The cost of living is smaller in most countries in the EU, though. Also, most get free healthcare and free higher education, so it evens out considering these benefits
mbs159··on European Investment Bank to inject €70B in European tech
Europeans don't just dislike capitalism. They've been indoctrinated into thinking that if a business makes money, it must be cheating.

Those are some big assumptions about 750 million people. Would love to see the data on this.

> In America, a 20-year-old can drop out of college, code an app in his dorm, and become a billionaire. In Europe? Good luck.

Assuming that's the case with you, right? And if not, then why not if it's so simple? Everybody knows that these cases are extremely rare, but they do happen both in the US and in the EU.

> The ultimate proof that Europe's system is broken? Its smartest people leave. Engineers, doctors, entrepreneurs, they all flee to the U.S., Switzerland, or Singapore, where they're allowed to keep what they earn.

Again, would love to see the data on this. Based on my own personal anecdata, one of the reasons why IT engineers don't move to the US despite being offered to do so is because they enjoy the other benefits of living in the EU, like high-speed rail, free health-care, free higher education, being car independent, childcare benefits and having more days off.

> I can safely say this doesn't apply to the majority of the population.

That's a pretty bold claim, would love to see the data. The only thing I know that applies to the majority of the population is that they breathe in oxygen and breathe out carbon dioxide, and even with that claim I am not 100% confident.

The point was to find out if malicious actors could use such tools for convincing interactions, and although I do disagree with their approach, I think that it would be impossible to conduct such a experiment with user consent on a subreddit scale.

Can't speak for others, but I stopped investing in the US (more specifically, ETFs and stocks) after the current administration called Europeans ungrateful and parasitic.
