matz1··on A bitter pill for Microsoft Copilot
I welcome this attack, to me all code should be free of any restrictions, like WTFPL.

Information want to be free.

matz1··on Getting fired from your job as an Amazon worker by an app
>Sure, but I can't imagine you'd plan for being fired for being locked out of your work area

The reason of being fired is beside the point.

Employer should be able to fire anyone for any reason.

Likewise employee should be able to quit for any reason.

matz1··on Getting fired from your job as an Amazon worker by an app
>Imagine getting fired for something you have no control over, or didn't even realize was getting penalized for.

That is life, that could always happen, the right thing is to accept the fact and plan accordingly.

If i took any kind of job I acknowledge that there always possibility that I'm going to be fired for something I have no control.

matz1··on Study That Impregnated Male Rats Stirs Controversy
In that case every rule/law is arbitrary.
matz1··on Study That Impregnated Male Rats Stirs Controversy
Maybe arbitrary is not the accurate term.

I mean if the concern if experiments on live humans then why can't one just specifically address the concern and draw the line ?

matz1··on Study That Impregnated Male Rats Stirs Controversy
Supporting experiment on rat doesn't necessarily mean supporting experiments on live humans.

We can arbitrarily draw the line between human and the non human.

matz1··on Bring back menus, QR codes are terrible
>True, tipped minimum is $2.13/hr

Tipped minimum is 2.13/hr is true but tipped waitstaff only make 2.13/hour is not true.

matz1··on Bring back menus, QR codes are terrible
That's not true. I've been a service employee too. You typically get your hourly wage in the paycheck resulting in >$0 paycheck, even with tax withhold.

>In which case, barely over $7

Right, so tipped waitstaff only make $2.83/hr is not true.

matz1··on Two Portland delivery companies revolt against Amazon, shut down
Vote with dollars goes both ways, I too vote with my dollar by buying from Amazon.
matz1··on Two Portland delivery companies revolt against Amazon, shut down
Thats you but I think majority of people, including me, would rather save a dollar.
matz1··on Bring back menus, QR codes are terrible
Thats not true, tipped employees typically do get >0 dollar paycheck from their employers. That is their base hourly wage.

general minimum wage is peanuts, yes. but tipped waitstaff only make $2.83/hr is not true. If the employer did not make up the difference then they risk being fined/shutdown.

matz1··on Bring back menus, QR codes are terrible
Maybe you are not aware, if the tip is not enough to match the non tipped minimum wage then the employer has to make up the difference.
matz1··on Bring back menus, QR codes are terrible
Then you might wonder whether the restaurant can't change their menus often because paper menu is hard to change!
matz1··on Peter Thiel turned a Roth IRA into a $5B tax-free piggy bank
>so are you saying you're worried about a law like this

What law are you referring to ?

>I'm guessing you think the best way to deal with revenge porn is to have everyone post nude photos of themselves publicly?

Yes, then fix the problem that cause by the photos being public, instead of making the photo private.

As technology progresses, trying to stop the flow of information is become harder and harder.

I rather we embrace the flow of information then we solve whatever issue that come up.

matz1··on Peter Thiel turned a Roth IRA into a $5B tax-free piggy bank
Yes, this is the most pragmatic way to deal with privacy issue, as much as possible information has to be make public for everyone.

>You want family and friends to know exactly how much you make?

Not really but I would like the information to be public, that is they don't have to know but if they want to know they can.

Its great that I don't have to hide it or worry about it being leaked.

If this information being public cause me trouble then we'll find a way to solve that issue rather than fixing it by hiding the information.

matz1··on What if plants were animals like any other?
>It might be wise to moderate that position by also objecting to people taking pleasure in seeing/causing the suffering of animals. You may not care about the experience of those animals, but you should still care what effect it has on the human who indulges that side of themselves.

I wouldn't object to people taking pleasure in seeing/causing the suffering of animals, as long as its only limited to animals (does not harm other human).

matz1··on What if plants were animals like any other?
>Why do you draw the line there

Simply personal preference.

>And that means you're okay with things like torture of animals and bestiality?

Yes

matz1··on What if plants were animals like any other?
I don't care either, I draw the line between human and non-human. Anything you do on non-human is fair game to me.

The only reason I may care about animal suffering is because the other human can get angry can cause me trouble.

matz1··on Internal Amazon documents shed light on how company pressures out office workers
I don't think it matter much, for many people few years in Amazon is worth it, in term of financial benefit/future job.
matz1··on Hire-to-fire at Amazon India?
Just because its easy/tempting to lie doesn't mean they are lying.
matz1··on Hire-to-fire at Amazon India?
How are you sure its a lie ?

Not common? How do you know?

Eating nothing but pizza is not healthy? I disagree, Pizza has carbohydrates, protein, vegetables, vitamin, etc. Not always but it can be healthy.

matz1··on Hire-to-fire at Amazon India?
How rare?

So you are not the one how can function with 5 hour sleep but doesn't mean other people can't.

matz1··on Hire-to-fire at Amazon India?
They only need 5 hours of sleep. Why is it so difficult to understand that not everyone the same ? There are a lot of variability in human.
matz1··on Amazon’s HR Failures
The up or out is not a strange concept in the realm of professional sport.

Though the culling should only apply to those at the bottom, not the top.

The culling is necessary to maintain top performance.

matz1··on Amazon executives are worried they'll run out of people to employ
Not true, at least in restaurant industry, people rage quit (because horrible condition or whatever) all the time, yet some time latter they show up again at work at the same place, same pay, same position.

Coupled with increase pay incentives, yeah they will come back.

matz1··on Animal testing is exploitative and largely ineffective
I guess its just matter of subjective preference, like some people hate eating chocolate some people loves it.
matz1··on Animal testing is exploitative and largely ineffective
But why would I care about the increase of animal suffering (if not because other human may angry) ?
matz1··on Animal testing is exploitative and largely ineffective
I personally don't care about animal suffering, whatever you do to non-human is fair game to me. I draw the line between human and non-human.

The only reason I may care about animal suffering is because the other human that care about animal can get angry and cause me trouble.

matz1··on Animal testing is exploitative and largely ineffective
>or being expelled from society entirely

So the main reason to exploit animal is because the other human hate it and that other human could harm you. I see so it has nothing to do with the animal suffering itself.

matz1··on The work-from-home future is destroying bosses' brains
at some point, you just have to say : well that's too bad.
