mattmurdog··on Cheat sheet for if I'm gone
My partner doesn't even know what Github or markdown is. I'm better off writing it in plain English and putting it in a bank safe.
mattmurdog··on Apple Hides Taiwan Flag in Hong Kong

mattmurdog··on Ask HN: Why are pay-walled articles allowed on Hacker News
This is what I do. But there are a few where they don't use a cover and require you to actually subscribe before loading the real page.
mattmurdog··on Ask HN: Leaving a Job at Big Tech Giants for Startup
Worked in a dozen start ups and all but 2 still stand today. Going from startup to big tech is hard because there's a process you will need to follow and the work may not always be exciting. But the pay, bonus, options make up for it. Going from big tech to start up is easy when you have a nest egg built up. If you don't it'll be a major struggle and it's not worth it to be honest.

A scalper's gonna scalpe
mattmurdog··on Price Before Product
Pretty sure amazon, google, facebook, twitter built a product first before price. Sometimes it really is about innovation, once you do that, the money follows.

Unless you're moviepass.

mattmurdog··on Museum of ZZT
Loved ZZT and Megazeux, it was what got me started into programming over hacking

mattmurdog··on Facebook is taking on Tinder with new dating features
Great, another new way for nerdy white guys in tech with Asian fetishes to creep, stalk and sexualize Asian girls. I look forward to this.

People just need to be smart about making their FB private
mattmurdog··on How to sell a $300 chocolate bar
As someone that once owned an artisan chocolate factory, based on what I can see, I can make and sell this chocolate for around $5-6 wholesale. Meaning if I can unload 30,000-50,000 bars to Safeway.
mattmurdog··on YouTube Drops Online Star Logan Paul from Premium Advertising
It's an YT apology etiquette. But donating it is also a great idea. Too bad he did neither like the dbag he is.
mattmurdog··on Modern JavaScript Explained for Dinosaurs
Most developer bros still think modern JS is Jquery but unnecessary. I've had "Senior" engineers ask why we need Webpack because it's too complicated and unnecessary and wanted to take it out. Others who think Angular is the same as Bootstrap which is a UI framework. And those who doesn't even know what ES6 is.
mattmurdog··on YouTube Drops Online Star Logan Paul from Premium Advertising
You mean the one where he attached an ad to so he made money off it? If he was sincere he would have turned that off like most apology videos.

Also let's not forget his history of racism towards Asians.

mattmurdog··on Target to Buy Shipt for $550M
Exactly, Target's pick up in store is really fast and simple. I had ordered a gift for my friend half way across the states and he was able to go and just pick it up himself the next day
mattmurdog··on Is software development really a dead-end job after age 35-40?
To say that it is not is also makes that person not hireable.
mattmurdog··on Is software development really a dead-end job after age 35-40?
I can only speak about building web apps with Google. Replace ES6 with anything else.
mattmurdog··on Is software development really a dead-end job after age 35-40?
When you claim to be a senior engineer with 20 years of experience and you don't know what ES6 is then you don't deserve a job.
mattmurdog··on 28-year-old makes millions buying from Walmart, selling on Amazon

mattmurdog··on GraphQL Fragments Are the Best Match for UI Components
The one thing I never got with GraphQL is what do you query if you don't know what to query for??? Can someone answer this for me.

I don't know what I need. Server tells me I need {allthedogs}. Now I know to query for {allthedogs}... what's the point of GraphQL?

mattmurdog··on Gaming Robinhood’s Free Stock Promotion – Or, How to Blow $350
Overtime you will make that $100 back. But quite an interesting article. I think you can do better signing people up to mealpal and their 50$ amazon GCs.

mattmurdog··on Redesigning the airport boarding pass (2010)
"I mean, this talented designer ventured into poking fun of the work of other people without even taking the time to understand the problem, the proposed solution, and the constraints that were/are in place."

Bingo.

mattmurdog··on Redesigning the airport boarding pass (2010)
"So I took out my Moleskine and started sketching."

You lost me with your hipster pretentiousness.

mattmurdog··on Millennials are killing chains like Buffalo Wild Wings and Applebee's
Millennials are not making as much as other generations, and at the same time they are spending outside their means. They spend money on travels, eating out at hipster places, bars and electronics such as upgrading their iphone every year. Chains like Buffalo are not exciting, they cater to Moms and Dads because they are not organic, fusion or Instagramable.

mattmurdog··on Study: people who grow up poor have a harder time regulating their food intake
I knew a guy who grew up poor and as a result he didn't have much to eat growing up. So whenever he had free food he'd eat/steal as much as he can because he'd never know when his next meal might be.
