mattholling··on Ask HN: who launched something in July?
I launched http://www.vidergy.com - a "Pandora for video" site. It was mentioned on GigaOM, but sadly it was a subscription only piece.

I just launched it about 2 weeks ago, and I am trying to figure out the best things to do now to market/develop the product.

mattholling··on Video: Disappearing Car Doors
All of that is very true. You illustrate the point that things can seem fantastic or "dreamy" until you start to think about the logistics of some of it. Although you can't simply let that squash an innovative idea.
mattholling··on Ask HN: Apart from Hacker News, what else you read?
Don't forget about the lack of a secondhand market for ebooks. That's a big disadvantage.
mattholling··on The Top Types of Douchebags in Tech and How Not to Be One
As someone that focuses on the business/marketing side of things I think this is an interesting concept:

"Have a conversation a day with a techie for 30 straight days. You’ll realize they’re smarter than you, more passionate about what they do, more engaged in their work and solve more interesting problems."

mattholling··on Mint’s Original Marketing Plan (circa 2007)
I have been starting to think more about stages of launch for a project I am working on it. It is awesome to see the initial "how" that got Mint to what it is today.
mattholling··on Formatting your web content to be a pleasure to read
I read that book when I was studying design. It is definitely a worth read. It reads very quickly, and truly "shows" key prinicples instead of just "telling" them.
mattholling··on Don't yell at waitresses. You look like a jerk and it blows investments.
I have heard of companies that actually have their secretaries weigh in on what candidate should receive job offers based on how the secretary was treated when no one was looking.
mattholling··on Marketing Reddit: Have an Awesome Product and Tie it to a Fantastic Brand
As a college student that is working on a web app start-up, what Alexis said really hung with me. The fear of failure is present for me. Before watching this video, I had never considered the fact that I have the luxury of nobody caring/expecting my startup to be successful. This thought takes some of the pressure of my shoulders, and allows me to do what I do best: Get shit done.
mattholling··on Get Clicky with it – Real Time Analytics for your Startup
I appreciated the comments about staying bootstrapped if at all possible. Often, I hear conversation about landing VC funding as the end goal. While this can help develop a product if necessary, that funding will likely be more trouble than it is worth.
mattholling··on Facebook pages are worthless for your startup. Go where the early adopters are.
Your points about your Facebook network of friends not being your target market is many times true, and something I had not thought about. Good insight Paul.
mattholling··on Expectations: Follow up to "I'm building a better TechCrunch"
Against the many comments/suggestions that were made in previous posts apparently g0atbutt is still g0atbutt.

Regardless, the site looks great and I am excited to see what comes from it.

mattholling··on Follow up to "I'm building a TechCrunch alternative that focuses on startups"
Signed up for the newsletter. I am excited to read about all of the projects that are brewing from HN.
mattholling··on HN: I'm building a TC alternative. Will you share your startup's story with me?
That's great. There really is a big need for something like this, and I look forward to checking it out when it's live.
