matt321··on Denmark starting to ban Google products
A moneygrab by governments. They are jealous that the US politicians get all the lobby $$
matt321··on China uses AI to 'improve' courts – computers 'correcting human verdict'
This will remove the "human decency" part of the system where sometimes judges will realize the person meant no harm or it was an accident and "don't" get their life ruined.
matt321··on Astrophysicist Paul Sutter explains the world’s seeming lack of trust in science
Your average joe looks at science the same way the educated look at astrology. We provide proof, but they are not smart enough to understand it so it seems like a lie to them. This video is basically "how do we convince people to believe us without questioning (dumb questioning, but questioning none the less).

matt321··on Truckers plan LA/Long Beach work stoppage Wednesday to protest AB5
This worked in Canada.... Oh wait no id didn't. I wonder if the US government will extort people back to work if their trucker protest disrupts the bread and circuses.

Give it time and it will no longer have parity.
matt321··on Fine-Tuned Universe
All life as we know it evolved to inhabit this planet, so its no surprise that life as we know it is tuned to this planet. This is the evolutionary equivalent of overfitting an ML model to the data.
matt321··on Reshma Saujani (Girls Who Code) on Gender Equity and the Future of Work
"Equal pay for moms"? I don't understand. If they produce the same output then its already illegal to pay them less then a man.

Build a rock paper scissors lizard spock ML recognition with a RPi4 w/camera
matt321··on Florida Sheriff Terrorize Families with “Predictive Policing” [video]
This is horrible and should be illegal.
matt321··on Dutch Parliament Approves Legislation to Make Work from Home a Legal Right
This will only work if there are legal ways to prevent mangers from discriminating against work from homers. For example, people who work from home could be first of the list for layoffs. The work from home people are just names on a screen not socializing during meetings and in the hallway. A person who is perceived to be a "team player" is probably going to get much more out of their company than those who aren't. So while they may have the right to work from home, the deck will be stacked against them.
matt321··on Protesting Polish farmers block road and declare “war for the countryside”
Stop producing pork if its not profitable. No need to protest. When a market is interfered with, shortages or surpluses are normal. When the government places price ceilings on OUTPUTS, if the INPUTS cost more than the OUTPUT, expect shortages.
matt321··on Where Are the Microelectronics Engineers?
“It is simply not viable for us to pay entry-level engineers on large hardware teams that kind of money.”

Then they will go to CS fields. It's not all about money but if a person is interested in two things and one pays higher, guess where they'll go?

matt321··on Gen Z candidates are running for Congress – and running against compromise
Compromise or you will loose.
matt321··on [dead]
The police can get whatever they want in the end since the police can threaten to "do nothing" if they don't get it.

There needs to be a secondary police force with a different chain of command and funding to act as a redundant mechanism. Having military national guard replace the police is not a viable solution.

matt321··on Managers need to stop giving people feedback on their personality
If I have a team member that is being a jerk then I will give them feedback on their personality, regardless of protected characteristics. The option is: Give feed back and they fix behavior, or they get fired. Toxic people have no place on my team.

EDIT: Unless they are doing so much more of the work then the others that they cant realistically be replaced, then I will allow them to be toxic but only so much they others people aren't quitting. OK there's is a little bit of hyperbole there but sometimes the best workers are not very socially palatable. I will still give them regular feedback on their poor attitude.

I frequently read these and look at which areas exactly are getting dumped. I've have never read an article that said engineers are getting laid off. Most layoffs I see are overhead.

Everyone agrees preventing criminals from burning people alive is wrong, but some people don't think abortion is wrong so there's grey area there.
