matt-kantor··on NASA Discovers A Ring Around The Solar System
Remnants of our solar accretion disk?
matt-kantor··on Typewar (By Eldarion)
Fun little time waster. I like the concept and implementation (although it's a bit easy as others have said). My only suggestion is to provide a login method besides Twitter. OpenID would be great.
matt-kantor··on Ask HN: What company/industry would you like to see open their data?
The US government.

We're making progress, but there's a long way to go.

matt-kantor··on '360 video camera played with flash
Ah, good point. I just checked the WHOIS and stopped there.

Still, http://yellowbird3d.com or anything else possibly reachable outside of links or copy/pasting would be nice (though I guess telling people "google yellowbird" works).

I can't believe they chose that domain name over http://yellowbird.com/.

"Upper right" being opposite from the DJ stage and out towards the water.
matt-kantor··on Poll: Do you own a working television?
Same here. I own a TV but I don't get TV (I voted yes anyways). My TV is used a screen for my media center computer (mostly for music and movies) and video games.
matt-kantor··on Verify email. Wtf?
A good practice I use is to give users a "trial period" (usually 24 hours) before they must verify. Users can sign up for the site and immediately start using it, then next time they check their email just click the link. Many people will check their email at least once per day anyways.

Or, if they don't check it and try to log in after 24 hours, they get a message saying they need to verify their email address and the option to re-send the verification email.

matt-kantor··on A Tale of Two Programmers
I actually thought the story hinted at the opposite: that individual programmers who from the outside may look like slackers can produce good, simple code and that process isn't everything.
