It's an engine for MySQL.
Aurora Database Architecture by Amazon Web Services:

Aurora is more than just RDBMS as a service.
Cycles is great, but just like Mental Ray, in other applications, it's part of another package. Sure you can run them headless, but why? When there is something that is made for it that is so well documented and has great support solely for that purpose.
Rendering features aside, it's a great business and architecture choice.
https://mariadb.com/kb/en/mariadb/connect-json-table-type/
e.g:
SQL > CREATE TABLE junk.j1 (a int default null)
ENGINE=CONNECT DEFAULT CHARSET=utf8
table_type=JSON
File_name='j1.json';
SQL > insert into junk.j1 (values) (1);
$ ls $(mysql -NBe "select @@datadir")/junk
db.opt j1.frm j1.json
$ cat $(mysql -NBe "select @@datadir")/junk/j1.json

"a": 1

I use this for generating config files, and getting data into pydata tools; no need for a database driver, which is interesting.Or use posgres-xc, or mariadb 10 with galera and maxscale. Postgres has JSON storage. MariaDBB has dynamic and virtual columns, and the CONNECT engine which can now directly create new or edit existing JSON files using the SQL interface, instead of dedicated functions for JSON manipulation.
But this could work too!
Loader from Several Nines, is a tool for doing parallel loads of CSV into MySQL and MariaDB https://github.com/severalnines/loader
Mydumper is a threaded dump and load tool for MySQL/MariaDB. https://launchpad.net/mydumper
Tungsten Replicate can do batch load replication into any external datasource http://docs.continuent.com/tungsten-replicator-3.0/deploymen... So long as you have a script for it: https://code.google.com/p/tungsten-replicator/source/browse/...
EDIT: A fun extra, https://mariadb.com/kb/en/mariadb/documentation/storage-engi...
GameDev, r/gamedev, tigsource, and polycount are already great resources.
Just automating Max Martin really.
Never fear windows guys and gals, your favourite open source databases that are massively scalable are readily available, and nobody from sales will give you a call to discuss options:

(if I put my tongue any further into my cheek I am going to make a hole!)
If you are going to have column stores, you should have InfiniDB.
And if you are going to have SQLite, you should also list MS SQL Server Compact. MS Access is also a viable option, also DBase and Filemaker.
Clustrix and NuoDB should also be in the list if you are listing NewSQL systems like VoltDB.
I am sure there are others :S as a DBA would be interested what businesses or systems only back onto column stores without a traditional RDBMS or a modern NoACID system.
Perfect!
Krita? Yes.
