- All Google Code Competitions, which had gone on for 19 years
- Jacquard, there IOT clothing attempt, around for 9 years
- Stadia, shorter but their cloud gaming attempt around for 3 years
Google killing Jacquard and Stadia seems run of the mill but the first one! When I was in college I remember people talking about google code jam and I wasn't even into coding then. That seems like a big retreat and I must have missed HN discussing it because, just wow.
That might be a bit too kind given how much Google liked to Oops Firefox. Wouldn't be surprised if MS did too.

That is surprising but also makes a lot of sense. Companies go for the already built cheaper option to maintain that they’re going green while taking it from others! That’s actually kind of harmful and they should have to pay for building energy if they want the moral credit for it.
Perhaps the first comment was too harsh but let’s not be overly generous.
There’s benefit of the doubt then there’s just… whatever the polar opposite of that is.
Additionally, the linked post explains that if you get flagged as spam or "sending to many emails" there's literally no way to fix it without sounding the alarm in a post like this.
I learned a lot reading the review, and trusted them a lot. I just recommended them to a sibling a week ago for a camera rental. These days I don't get emotional or attached to websites (or companies) but this one hits, and hard.
Wish them luck in keeping that fairness to the artists and themselves going strong.
So with a better process Apple and mobile chips can become even more power efficient than intel chips?
Hard to piece this info together with that.
Being asked to sit alone during a study could make me feel uncomfortable wondering if they’re observing me while I sit or trying to glean something else from me.
Because it lets their own selfish behavior get a pass which they feel guilty for. I most commonly see this view point in bosses, go figure.
People often pitch this view but don’t provide real numbers.
How do you think they’re neutering it?
In person jobs will always exist, forcing everyone to be in person is not good.
If people really wanted to fix transportation that’s great, high speed rail and public transportation reducing the number of cars on the road seem to be the best solution.
But hey, Elon’s hyper loop was a publicity stunt to discourage investment in that. So I say, whether you want to shit on Tesla or public roads, shit on Elon.
It’s a crap interface compared to others but it’s the best to do anything. That’s why it won.
Touchscreens are the worst interface option. The feedback of feeling a button, or anything made for the job, is better than typing without specific feedback onto a screen. It won out because of you don’t have a set interface it’s bettor.
Now for search, chat gpt will likely always be less reliable than a list of results you can vet yourself for content and source.
That said… I don’t think people care about truth that much these days so one response that feels correct is could be good enough for most. Terrifying times we live in folks.
That said this is a hilarious mess up because Microsoft actually had a presentation.
What about the AI that drives YouTube auto play so somehow kids watch horror clips and everyone else gets nudged towards Jordan Peterson for some reason?
Having more of our internet and communication filtered by ostensibly “neutral” AI will get lead very weird and probably not great places.
If they're cutting executive salaries by the largest amount it sounds good on paper but doesn't really do anything because their pay is, as you said, stock based.
So, unsurprisingly, very skeezy unless they change the largest factor in their pay.
