This is fantastic! Would anyone happen to know if there is one for AWS as well?

markwaldron··on Amazon prefaces its recruiting emails to women engineers with “Diversity HIRE”
I'm not asking that the person out themselves. I meant more information about the sender - I could quickly code up an email template that looks similar to Amazons.
markwaldron··on Amazon prefaces its recruiting emails to women engineers with “Diversity HIRE”
I wish they wouldn't have blocked out the email information. There's very little to verify this is legit.

markwaldron··on Stack Overflow Salary Calculator
My commute is a little longer (~60 minutes), and my rent is 1.6k a month with most utilities included.
markwaldron··on Stack Overflow Salary Calculator
This "calculator" really makes me appreciate the higher salaries in NYC compared to other places. Yes, the cost of living is higher, but if you are willing to commute 30ish minutes a day from outside of Manhattan, you can avoid a lot of the cost.
markwaldron··on If you enroll in Equifax's TrustedID you waive your rights to sue Equifax
I haven't enrolled, but wouldn't you be able to argue that because their information was leaked you weren't the one who signed up?

markwaldron··on ES6 Generators Deliver Go Style Concurrency (2013)
I read until Node.js 0.11 was mentioned and then scrolled up and realized it was written in 2013. Please add to title!
markwaldron··on To Grow Faster, Hit Pause
Here, have a karma! We need more people like you downvoting these types of pieces into oblivion.
markwaldron··on Modified human crania provide evidence for a new form of Neolithic skull cult
Very interesting subject, similar to how researchers say the Egyptians elongated their skulls. Also, Neolithic Skull Cult sounds like a great band name
markwaldron··on How Much Sleep Do Fitbit Users Really Get?
I had this issue as well but I realized my Sleep Sensitivity setting was on "Sensitive" rather than "Normal". Once I changed it, my average nights rest went up to 6h+
markwaldron··on Canadian elite special forces sniper makes record-breaking kill shot in Iraq
Why would we celebrate something like this?
markwaldron··on The most secure password
I don't know about all of you, but I'm going to use H4!b5at+kWls-8yh4Guq for my password everywhere. No way any of you will be able to crack it!
markwaldron··on Badly educated men have not adapted well to trade, technology or feminism (2015)
You state that the education system taught you lies, and then generalize that all public schools teach lies. Did you attend every public school in the nation?
markwaldron··on Cafe owners are pulling the plug on WiFi
Charging for wifi by the hour would be a good alternative. Give 30 minutes free with every coffee purchase, possibly dependent on price of beverage. The outlying issues are other open wifi spots that are close to the shop and people tethering their phones and just using the cafe for a spot to do work. Both of those will happen even if they "pull the plug".
markwaldron··on Survivorship Bias
I just opened it, also in Chrome, and it took me to the website
markwaldron··on An Alternative Approach to Rate Limiting
Had we not discovered the attack, we could have faced a huge surge in our delivery costs and a decline in our email sender reputation.

This isn't just about the application being able to handle double the amount of load, it about keeping costs down and preventing someone from drastically increasing your bill. I work at a fintech company, and many of the 3rd party providers we use have a non-negligible cost per API call. You wouldn't want to wake up one morning and find that someone triggered one of those calls thousands of times while you were asleep.

markwaldron··on Amazon's Sick New Sick Policy
So they are encouraging people to go to work sick under penalty of losing portions of their bonus? How long until a strong version of the flu puts whole teams out of commision? It's things like this that cause me to always reply "Thanks, but no thanks" to their recruiters whenever they reach out to me.
markwaldron··on Typing the technical interview
Someone, please design this. Then post a link. I will be your first customer
markwaldron··on America's biggest new reading trend: obsessed with multitasking via audio books
I had the same feeling with that same series. I used to look forward to my 30 minute commute to/from work. I'd save the book for the commute and it would always be something to look forward to. Have you found any other books similar to that?
markwaldron··on The Lasting Consequences of Student Debt
I'd love to know their definition of "high-income family"
markwaldron··on How my daughter died from a simple case of flu
It's extremely common in the US. I grew up poor and there were many times I was sick, sometimes even severely, and never went to the doctors. Even now I know people who are making 6 figure salaries and choose not to go to the doctors because it's just so expensive. They hedge their bets taking high deductible insurances, or sometimes going without, so they just avoid going to the doctors until they have no choice.
markwaldron··on Software Engineer Starts Unlikely Business: A Weekly Newspaper
As a resident of a neighboring town to Montclair, I couldn't be more excited to see a new local newspaper trying to keep the residents more informed. Needless to say, I spent the $12 to subscribe. If this goes well, I hope to see more papers of this nature popping up in my town and others in the area!
markwaldron··on Assert() in the hands of bad coders
I second this. There are plenty of times I'll be looking at code I wrote a few months ago and swear it was written by someone else. The same goes for more elegant code. Not everyone writes amazing code all the time.
markwaldron··on How I Became a Better Programmer
Those that are complaining about this article: Care to share the experiences that made you a better programmer? Can you link to blog posts yourself or others made that we may find useful?
markwaldron··on Dear recruiter, “open floor space” is not a job benefit
If I see "open floor space", I better also see "a pair of headphones of your choice"
markwaldron··on David Rockefeller has died
"Their sister, Abby Rockefeller Mauze, known as “Babs,” died in 1976." All the brothers have their contributions listed, but she doesn't? According to Wikipedia, Abby Rockefeller Mauze preferred to stay out of the spotlight, but was still a benefactor of the MOMA, YWCA, NY Hospital, NY Zoological Society, and the Asia Society.
markwaldron··on The Frequency of Known Vulnerabilities in JavaScript
For Node we use https://nodesecurity.io/ for all our npm packages. It does a pretty great job of alerting us quickly to any vulnerabilities reported for our packages.
