marklabedz··on Dropbox hits 1.0
There are several smaller, lighter, faster PDF viewers. I switched to Foxit Reader for this exact reason.
marklabedz··on Locksmith gets less tips and more price complaints for being faster
Beyond just the magical thinker, I'd assume the restaurant didn't use both size glasses at the same time so no easily-available means for comparison existed.
marklabedz··on Ask HN: Did anyone else get a Google Chrome Laptop yet?
I applied through the prompt on dev channel. No dice yet. (In Philly, so should have come by now if it was to be delivered today.)
marklabedz··on Nexus S
I've also heard the abandonment attributed to lower overall fees from usage, especially say, when traveling.
marklabedz··on Nexus S
I could easily overlook this if they rolled out UMA (aka Generic Network Access) on all handsets. Its been the saving grace for me on my Blackberry, especially in large convention centers with poor cell reception. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Generic_Access_Network
marklabedz··on Speed-Freak Football
I remember hearing from a coach (albeit soccer) constantly: "Size hurts, speed kills." It can definitely be applied to the business/start-up arena. Agility and speed of innovation are often crippled as a company grows, leaving others to out-innovate, respond more quickly to market demands and capitalize on new opportunities.

We'll likely be able to see this showdown in a few more weeks (Oregon vs. Auburn).
marklabedz··on Protect yourself from FireSheep with Amazon EC2 + OpenVPN for $0.50 a month
Good timing - I just had this thought "in the shower" a day or two ago. I wouldn't utilize a VPN enough to make some of the more traditional providers cost-effective, so something along these lines is probably Just Right.

marklabedz··on Comcast demands Level 3 pay fee to deliver online movies to their subscribers
As Comcast subscriber, I'm more than happy to switch the minute I have a viable alternative. Whether its a constant barrage of billing issues, poor connections, terrible customer service, abusive monopoly actions, the list goes on...

Section 44 of the Terrorism Act (Especially as it relates to photographers: http://articles.cnn.com/2010-01-23/world/photography.protest...)
marklabedz··on A Follow-Up to "The Web is Public Domain"
Put down the shovel.
marklabedz··on Apple Announces Beatles Collection
The beginning of the end started a while ago. The internet, particularly broadband and mobile connectivity, have revolutionized a variety of industries. News, mail, music, movie rentals.

It seems to me that the Beatles finally caved to reality. Sure, there are "adults" that still buy physical media, but the "kids" haven't been doing that in a high enough volume to sustain the such a distribution model for a few years now.

marklabedz··on Google Bowls a Googly - Possible invalidation of Oracle's patents
Its now frequently a third pitch (in addition to the "normal" fastballs mixed usually with a change-up or curve ball and sometimes a slider). Generally a higher risk/reward pitch than any of the aforementioned due to challenges in controlling its motion.
marklabedz··on Is this the Google Nexus S?
While I'll be waiting for a review or two before buying, I'm happy to see another vanilla Android device coming (hopefully).
marklabedz··on Electric Audi A2 with 375 Miles Range on 6-Minute Charge
Does anyone know if the lithium metal polymer (LMP) battery technology is useful in other spaces, such as personal electronics? For a long time, we've been hearing that batteries are a key limiting factor for a variety of electronics.

marklabedz··on The Tax Haven That's Saving Google Billions
...And when some country is offering ZERO, any X% >0 will not encourage companies to shift their tax structures back to the US.
marklabedz··on The inventor of microfleece refused to patent it.
Tangentially, they also work with a variety of garment vendors to continue innovating on the basic concept of "fleece" fabric. For example, various Patagonia R-series jackets are Malden/Polartec fabrics. Higher lofts (more warmth) with lower weight, increased breathability, flexibility, etc.
marklabedz··on Perpetually.com Aims to Keep Track of Politicians’ Promises
I was thinking of something similar to track the "10 Year Goals" that are rolled out with much fanfare, only to be forgotten after that individual is no longer in office.

The most useful part would be some sort of lessons-learned attached to each initiative (whether failed or successful).

marklabedz··on HN Domain Exchange: Add your unused domains
I sat looking at the spreadsheet for a couple of minutes watching everyone edit. I wonder if there are any larger volume use-cases and what load it creates. I've never had more than 3 people concurrently editing a sheet before.
marklabedz··on World according to San Francisco
Vegas in "Jesus Land" gave me a good laugh.
marklabedz··on Ask HN: Suggesting next actions
I hope you let us know how that turns out. If its anything like my patterns, it will include opening Gmail, HN, and Weather.gov in the morning. As an example, Chrome should figure that out and open them when I start Chrome at 6am every morning.
marklabedz··on Ask HN: Suggesting next actions
I'd agree with your gut. I think the limiting factor is a common/shared platform for historic data aggregation and dissemination of possible sites to visit or actions to take for example.
marklabedz··on Ask HN: Suggesting next actions
Seems like online shopping's suggested items (such as shopping on Amazon) would fit the bill, or maybe the recently opened menus common on many programs provide suggested actions (even context-specific menu options). Am I misunderstanding your question?
marklabedz··on Southwest's acquisition of AirTran: Why they're doing it and why you should care
I've found that they have done just that at PHL. It wasn't easy to knock US off balance a few years ago and that's exactly what happened - on time, generally more friendly and they didn't manage to lose your luggage. During IRROPS (poor weather, mechanical problem, etc), its a lot easier to sub a 737 for a 737 than have to find a way to cram an A320's worth of people on an E170 or two.

Granted, the dynamics of PHL are a little different from the NYC airports, but Southwest seems to be effectively penetrating BOS.

marklabedz··on TIL Why There Are No Non-Stop Flights from SFO to National Airport
The noise factor has been part of the argument. (Whether or not that makes for a valid argument is certainly up for debate.)
marklabedz··on TIL Why There Are No Non-Stop Flights from SFO to National Airport
There was also a perimeter rule governing flights at Dallas Love Field after DFW was built. A compromise was reached a few years ago. Here's an article from the Dallas Morning News summarizing the effects of the change: http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dws/bus/stories/DN-l...
