marketingPro··on Billy Mitchell’s Donkey Kong high-score case will move forward to trial
Thank you. This was a fascinating read.
marketingPro··on Swift Concurrency Roadmap
What makes you think "They’ve built the best user experience by far"

I can't even say "best" experience let alone "by far".

Apple is notoriously anti consumer on everything from hardware to software.

I don't know what you are talking about. They had a fun signup screen when you first boot your iPhone. I have 0 ideas what you are talking about for macOS.

I think their primary reason for success was their advertising/marketing.

marketingPro··on Intermittent fasting from dawn to sunset induces anticancer response
If any of those happened, wouldn't the entire world see those physiological effects?

Being a bit more realistic is the hawthorne effect, which can be easy to test with follow up experiments.

My biggest takeaway isn't to do IF or cut calories, but rather it seems some phenomena was found. If you asked me if diet, fasting, etc... Would cute cancer, I'd have said NO! but this study has changed that answer to "I don't know".

I suggest that is a huge difference and benefit.

marketingPro··on Intermittent fasting from dawn to sunset induces anticancer response
Generally it's good to be skeptical but this- "We found a significant fold increase in the levels of several tumor suppressor and DNA repair gene protein products (GP)s at the end of 4th week during 4-week intermittent fasting (CALU, INTS6, KIT, CROCC, PIGR), and 1 week after 4-week intermittent fasting (CALU, CALR, IGFBP4, SEMA4B) compared with the levels before 4-week intermittent fasting."

But why would this suddenly happen?

There's some physiology here to be uncovered. That hardly is 'nothing'.

Is it calories? Is it fasting? Is it nutrient timing?

You can't find out which from "no control", but there's definitely a physiological effect being seen, correct?

marketingPro··on Mailing lists are resistant to censorship
I disagree a bit here. Spam folders has turned big tech into gatekeepers.

I run a data driven self help website and there is no paywall or advertising on the website. Everyone clearly signs up for emails. I still get above 0.5% spam+bounce ratio which means I need to ask Amazon for forgiveness everytime I email. (4x per year)

Yes I purge the lists, don't use clickbait, etc...

If 0.5% can get you into spam folders, this is an easy attack vector to silence someone.

My bigger question is how Walmart, Joann Fabrics, and HBO get into my mailbox. I'm sure they get "marked as spam" by more than 0.5%

marketingPro··on FBI, DHS, HHS Warn of Imminent Ransomware Threat Against U.S. Hospitals
US hospitals are ripe to attack. They make huge profits and use extremely outdated tech or use new (untested) software.

I take this opportunity to complain about regulatory capture and the medical cartels. Their constant irresponsibility (opioid epidemic, coronavirus response) affects everyone. Yet they still are paid more than any other industry.

marketingPro··on The self-driving car is a red herring
Efficiency is everything. Give it a Google.

Also, why are you discounting the last 100 years of federal reserve policy? We obviously had greater than 10x inflation. Is 30% inflation in 8 months not considered hyperinflation?

My kids bank account is 30% less valuable now. I'm not going to fight over definitions that 30% inflation isn't enough to be considered hyperinflation.

marketingPro··on The self-driving car is a red herring
I run a website that tracks food costs.

Not sure if you are looking for Data or a psychic. I do the former.

marketingPro··on The self-driving car is a red herring
Download taco Bell or McDonald's app. what is the current price for 400 calories? Mine is $1.30, in February this was $1.

For stock info, look it up. Not sure where to get historical real estate prices, I'm just looking for a second property and everything is at least 10% higher than in February as you need to offer more than the selling price in this economy.

marketingPro··on The self-driving car is a red herring
It was never hard to run Linux. It was always hard to make Linux perform at the same expectations as Windows.

Messing around with chromium versions and netflix's plugin was not fun when you just wanted to watch a show.

It's not polished, any distro.

But Linux server is GOAT.

marketingPro··on The self-driving car is a red herring
The federal reserve won't collapse, they have the ability to create money.

The currency the federal reserve multiplies? That could collapse.

Since 2020, the dollar menu is gone, home and stock prices skyrocketed. In a year I've seen ~30% inflation. There's no reason for the inflation to stop there.

(Note, I have lots of investment, inflation may help me)

marketingPro··on The self-driving car is a red herring
How outdated/out of touch was that line about Women managing children in a covid world?

Just say "parents".

marketingPro··on Google Chrome is preparing a widget with shopping ads on the new tab page?
Chrome on iphone is just Safari with a Google logo iirc.
marketingPro··on Google Chrome is preparing a widget with shopping ads on the new tab page?
We don't need an anti trust breakup of big tech. Their own decisions are causing them to lose customers.

I'm doing the unthinkable, I cut half my Google usage. No more music, no more photos, no more Android Chrome, significantly less Google search.

It's happening, although I feel like anti-consumer practices hurts Google more than Apple. Maybe my original claim about not needing anti trust is a bit simple.

marketingPro··on Vaccine hopes rise as Oxford jab prompts immune response among old and young
Suicide, abuse/trauma, avoided medical treatments, drug and alcohol addictions, and depression have all been seen to increase since we first had lockdowns.

There is no safe solution, it's a decision between protecting the 0.5% old, obese, and sick or the 99.5%

marketingPro··on ESP8266 as Open Source Hardware
Well it seems I shouldn't use ESP8266 on my household Appliance I plan to sell.

Anyone have a suggestion for an alternative? I was originally optimizing for cost, but now I think I want to prioritize a fast development cycle as the Appliance is going to be priced like a luxury.

marketingPro··on Vaccine hopes rise as Oxford jab prompts immune response among old and young
This article reinforces that herd immunity between young healthy people would have been the best solution.

Our old are going to get sick from vaccines, so the young are going to get it anyway. Next year under 50 year olds will line up for their vaccine.

Meanwhile 1.5 years worth of old, obese, and sick people will have died from coronavirus.

Wouldn't it have been better if healthy kids and adults caught it in q2 2020?

(Please no ancedotes of a sick 5 year old child dying from "coronavirus", statistics are necessary when discussing billions)

marketingPro··on Apple, Google and a Deal That Controls the Internet
Not to mention more susceptible to advertising.

If someone is willing to overpay for an inferior product, they likely will also impulse buy more often than someone who shops and researches phones..

marketingPro··on Apple, Google and a Deal That Controls the Internet
It boggles me to think an Apple user thinks they are getting something high end.

A nerd get an Android, where a teenager will get an iPhone. It's simply a low information consumer buying an overpriced product.

marketingPro··on Google Play Music, Music Play Store and Music Manager are going away
Between music and changing their photo storage agreement and Google search being an SEO nightmare-

I'm almost disconnected from Google.

I am shocked at how easy it was to get away from everything but email.

marketingPro··on Russia gives Edward Snowden permanent residency
Bless him for telling us what had been suspect for so many years.

There is no illusion of privacy anymore, even if a company jams ads down your throat.

If things need to be private, you need to be taking extreme precautions.

marketingPro··on How Google obliterated my 4 year old Chrome extension with 24k+ users (2016)
Notably absent, the generic details about the company.

I'm removing Google from my life as we speak, but whenever you prod further about these you find out they did violate TOS and are just unhappy.

marketingPro··on Why build another website builder?
I made it a rule that all articles are html/css, no website builders. One website builder page broke and I had no idea for potentially years.

I had nursing students, high school grads, history majors, and a heroin addict make a html/css page.

Sure it was wrapped in my header/footer, but this means 1 front end developer, once.

marketingPro··on Investors Extracted $400M from a Hospital Chain
Completely agree.

The next question becomes, does she turn away patients or start to become the hospital system she left and treat for 37 minutes or multiple patients.

She's highly recommend in our area and has started to believe only she can help these kids.

Money is not really a huge topic, but rather time and quality.

marketingPro··on Investors Extracted $400M from a Hospital Chain
PTO? Like paying a different Physical Therapist to take over her clients. She might profit 0-200$/day.

Medicare will pay 50$/hr and that's how much a "pick up" Physical Therapist.

The boss thing is a double edged sword.

marketingPro··on Investors Extracted $400M from a Hospital Chain
Rent is 12k/yr. Insurance is 2k per year. Software is 500 per year.

Cleaning supplies are trivial.

I can't think of anything else. We are considering getting someone to call insurance companies in the future. 40k/yr, but currently she does it.

marketingPro··on Investors Extracted $400M from a Hospital Chain
I don't understand why doctors work for them. My wife made 60k/yr at a hospital as a doctor of Physical Therapy. She runs her own clinic now and will make between 150-250k revenue per year.

When she worked at the hospital she made them 500k revenue per year as she treated multiple patients at a time. Her clinic is 1 on 1.

marketingPro··on Investors Extracted $400M from a Hospital Chain
No conversation about United States healthcare should continue without acknowledgement of Regulatory Capture through legal bribery.

https://www.opensecrets.org/federal-lobbying/top-spenders?cy...

The healthcare industry protects it's employees and owners at the expense of the customer.

There's nothing capitalistic here, there's nothing scientific about having monopoly control over healthcare services (Physicians, pharmacists).

As a note, I am shooting myself in the foot discussing this, my wife makes 200k/yr as a doctor of Physical Therapy running her own clinic. And her cartel isn't even on that list.

marketingPro··on Foxconn’s Empty Buildings in Wisconsin
I read the bernie m4a policy, it was a tax increase. There was no breaking up healthcare cartels. Instead they would be paid by taxes.
marketingPro··on No-till no-herbicide farming system in trial since 1981
I did a crappy Google search and I found 50% of food is eaten by humans.

I think you are incorrect here. 50% of nitrogen goes to waste if no one composts.
