marius_k··on Ask HN: Is it possible to create counter-terrorist consensus on blockchain?
> Who is a terrorist?

We can decide by consensus. Now I see Putin and his orgs being terrorist committing unjustified war crimes.

> In the Israel vs Palestine violence, which wallets will you block?

Those who commit war crimes. Israel mostly, could be Palestinians too.

> Every side has justifications for why it believes it is right and the other side wrong.

How does one justify Putins actions?

marius_k··on Ukrainian president signs formal request to join the European Union
Russia was threatening Ukraine not to join EU, and now Ukraine has nothing to loose.
marius_k··on Neutral Swiss adopt EU sanctions against Russia in break with past
Protecting terrorists money is not being neutral either.
marius_k··on Ukraine calls on hacker underground to defend against Russia
Does CORS security work on the client side response data? The server should still receive the load, right?
marius_k··on Joke written by an AI: “A basic program walked into a bar ”
Maybe people are also data in data out?

"I am what I remember." someone said.

marius_k··on U.S. to send 3k additional troops to Poland, officials say
from Budapest Memorandum: The Russian Federation, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and the United States of America reaffirm their commitment to Ukraine, in accordance with the principles of the Final Act of the Conference on Security and Cooperation in Europe, to respect the independence and sovereignty and the existing borders of Ukraine.

marius_k··on Show HN: Run NPM Scripts with .envs
I still do not understand the pros of having these scripts in package.json instead of ./scripts/*.sh..
marius_k··on The rate of inflation is misleading
I think the point was to tell that the gap between low class and middle class has increased. If we take avg basket of low class - its price increased by much more % compared to middle class basket. (but the thread lacks actual numbers and it is based on authors perception)
marius_k··on Ask HN: Why the $200 Overhead on Dell XPS Laptops with Linux?
It is because linux is superior!
marius_k··on “Chatbots: Still Dumb After All These Years”
I view chatbots as new era of CLIs (mostly poorly designed). Traditional CLIs dont need AI to be useful and I think that chatbots can also be useful (I havent seen one yet).
marius_k··on Why disaster happens at the edges: An introduction to queue theory
It lowers the load if the consumer is able to process batches of requests efficiently (ex. for vector operations).
marius_k··on An overview of the theory of overparameterized machine learning
Would it work to measure the size of compressed model?

marius_k··on Specifying Installation Requirements for Python Projects
Do you have an example of how it would be solved in other languages?

In python I would create different requirements files together with freeze versions of those. One could contain the standard "numpy" and another would be "numpy @ my-custom-built-numpy-url". I haven't tried it and don't know how it would work in practice.

marius_k··on Launch HN: Atmana (YC S21) – An app to help cut down on compulsive porn usage
Great, I hope I will be able to quit Hacker News!
marius_k··on Wuffs’ PNG image decoder
As I understand wuffs goal is to be good enough for parsers coders decoders. It looks like they can still achieve that by sacrificing some of the nice features of other languages.
marius_k··on Factoring 2048 RSA integers in 177 days with 13436 qubits and a multimode memory
I think Grover's algorithm could be used to find hashes with quadratic speedup. But that should not be an issue as quadratic slowdown could be achieved by doubling the problem size.
marius_k··on New quantum algorithms finally crack nonlinear equations
I am not sure if this is related but during the past year I noticed few articles describing about how quantum systems are immune to butterfly effect [0]. I can't tell more details as those articles are still on my backlog.

marius_k··on Ask HN: Best Talks of 2020?
Consciousness is Not a Computation (Roger Penrose) | AI Podcast Clips https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=hXgqik6HXc0

Full episode: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=orMtwOz6Db0

I don't take Roger's view about consciousness for granted but it is very interesting nevertheless.

marius_k··on S3 Strong Consistency
I was naive to think that these type of consistencies were already in place.
marius_k··on Britain’s CO2 Emissions Have Fallen to Levels Last Seen in 1890 (2018)
In this link [0] posted by another user we can see that consumption based CO2 emissions is ~556.5 Mtons (2017). In total it is 940Mtons.

marius_k··on Show HN: ORM for TypeScript with no query-builder, supporting full SQL queries
thanks. I love it! It is not clear where the `article.id` comes from in many-to-many example. Anyway I don't think I would use those relationships patterns, instead I would just load and operate in plain (shallow) model objects.
marius_k··on Ask HN: Has anyone migrated off containerized infrastructure?
"It works on my machine" is not the problem which is always solved by containers. I had several cases where it worked on my docker on my machine.
marius_k··on Ask HN: What kind of math do you study in your free time?
What are you reading/watching? Are there any self-contained material on this topic?
marius_k··on Cingulata: Run C++ code over encrypted data with fully homomorphic encryption
Are these operations encrypted also? Is this method more efficient rather than returning a mapping of all possible unencrypted inputs and outputs for a given operation.

[edit] I just did the math. 1. mapping of adding two bytes would make ~64kB list of values. 2. mapping of adding two i32 would make ~73786976294838.2MB list of values (looks like encryption would do a better job)

marius_k··on Siri, What Time Is It in London?

I like it how those patterns reveal different screen sizes/resolutions.
