Isn't this the idea of web rings from the 90s?

Ah, I didn't realize that. My apologies.

mario_kart_snes··on Soil in Midwestern US is eroding 10 to 1k times faster than it forms
Yeah, from that link:

"The long-term erosion rates are also one to four orders of magnitude lower than the assumed 1 mm yr soil loss tolerance value assigned to these locations by the U.S. Department of Agriculture."

So this paper shows the erosion is actually slower (better!) than we expected.

mario_kart_snes··on The future of privacy rights in a post-Roe world
> The intrigue: The Dobbs decision may prompt tech companies to minimize the data they collect. It could also recharge Congress' effort to pass a national online privacy law.

Certainly that would be a good outcome from the Dobbs decision!

> What to watch: Much of daily life happens online, and if the Supreme Court continues down this path, that internet activity could become fodder for criminal investigations.

Huh? It certainly already was before this reversal.

I love Feedbro, but agree it's slightly unfortunate you have to run it in browser. Running Feedbro as standalone would be cool.

I set up a DNS entry in my hosts file for all facebook/meta domains (https://github.com/jmdugan/blocklists/blob/master/corporatio...) to be blocked (routed to 0.0.0.0). The effectively blocks any data from the "pixel" because when it tries to send it, the request fails.

mario_kart_snes··on Ask HN: Do you prefer Svelte or SolidJS?
I have used Svelte but not SolidJS. I am also interested in this question. I looked at the SolidJS docs, and it seems like the Svelte docs/tutorial (https://svelte.dev/tutorial/basics) is more clear and focused.

mario_kart_snes··on Updated Proton, Unified Protection
If instead they said "Protonmail supports open source" then I would totally agree with you, but I think my conclusion is fair to draw from their language: "Protonmail will always be open source."
mario_kart_snes··on Updated Proton, Unified Protection
Are you referring to the "from" address or specifically the "reply-to"? You can change the "from" ... I am not sure about keeping the "From" the same but changing "reply-to"
mario_kart_snes··on Updated Proton, Unified Protection
Sure, they have some things (arguably low-value, but you may disagree) on GitHub, but they do not have the main protonmail service - where I could run my own Protonmail server - on GitHub.
mario_kart_snes··on Updated Proton, Unified Protection
In general this seems like a good move.

But the last paragraph violates one of my common complaints: using "open source" as a buzz-word:

> Proton will always be open source

Oh really? Where can I download the source code to run my own Protonmail server? Answer: I can't.

mario_kart_snes··on Ask HN: Why is Substack so popular?
RSS does work, fwiw (you may know this but for others too ...): just add "/feed" to the end of the root URL, for example: https://bariweiss.substack.com/feed
mario_kart_snes··on Ask HN: Why is Substack so popular?
I have a small email list that I would send out emails a few times per year. It used to be on Mailchip but they switched focus to e-commerce so much that it was painful (multi-step) process to actually send an email. I moved my list to Substack and it's fairly easy (2 clicks) to send a message.
