hBlock: A Posix-Compliant Ad-Blocker

To my understanding host based tracking prevention becomes more and more useless as trackers like google allow to run Google Tag Manager and all tracking on their clients domains. I was working as a Web Analytics Consultant for years and server-side-GTM is a thing for more than 2 years now.

Same I guess will (or already is) be possible for the ad side.

I wouldn't say useless - there are still a lot of domains used specifically for tracking that can be blocked without issue.

A layered approach is everything.

I’m wondering if having something like dnsmasq would be better in this situation over parsing a huge hosts file?

The project supports dnsmasq: https://github.com/hectorm/hblock/tree/master/resources/alt-...

Is this similar to https://github.com/jmdugan/blocklists ?
