margarina72··on Show HN: Coach Thyself – Replace your morning scroll with structured journaling
I am sure there is an audience for it, even if 12$/m for a journaling template feels a tad pushy. But great if someone find this useful
margarina72··on Arch Linux AUR package repository is being DDoSed
what is wrong with people? why someone would go through the hassle of doing this... beyond me...
margarina72··on A beginner's guide to extending Emacs
long time vim user, doomemacs was my door into emacs's world and I don't regret it, it is a wonderfull tool but compared to vim, you need a good config - it's really to barebone out of the box. Doomemacs (or similar) are doing a great job at getting you started. Orgmode was really was kept me inside of emacs.
margarina72··on Tell HN: Use "-f**k" to kill Google AI Overview
I can concur - google search product is not usable for a long time. Kagi is probably the only search product that work like a search product is supposed to.
margarina72··on Claude Code Router
Feels very similar to Aider[1]

margarina72··on Ask HN: What are you working on? (July 2025)
awesome project!
margarina72··on Ask HN: What are you working on? (July 2025)
it's somehow on a block list in ublock. Hence white screen here too, I have to disable adblock to see your site. Maybe the domain used to be for something else before.
margarina72··on OpenCut: The open-source CapCut alternative
Used it instead on Davinci Resolve on a few computer because Davinci Resolve require GPU and doesn't always recognize it - so it doesn't even start. Kdenlive doesn't have this issue.
margarina72··on Why are there no good dinosaur films?
well there is Denver the last dinosaur...
margarina72··on Show HN: WhatsApp Contact Exporter
Nice but without source code, it's very hard to trust that's not just a way to collect people's contact.
margarina72··on Opencode: AI coding agent, built for the terminal
aider has an emacs integration
margarina72··on Are we the baddies?
America also was once Terra Nova...
margarina72··on Open source can't coordinate?
Seems to be a pattern - take a general then apply to open-source. You know what else can't coordinate - most of the corporate world.

The article doesn't bring up any critical issue that the world world opensource should suddenly deal with - feels more like a morning rant after his shower - which is also how the post starts - it's basically on the front-page because its title is trying to be provocative.

margarina72··on Show HN: MediaCMS v6 – open-source video platform with trimmer and RBAC
That's really awesome. I am implementing something similar inhouse for a learning platform, I'd love to have a look at the code, I am sure there are plenty of interesting things to learn from it.
margarina72··on Technical co-founder, built everything. Offered 4%. Oof
[IANAL and usual disclaimers apply] (edit - misread the end of the post - slight correction)

"if someone had an idea you believed in" but didn't have any meaningful contribution to its realisation? Well, if you are going to build everything, why bother partner with them.

- "How do you vet a potential partner?" Test the trust on simple things, do they acknowledge their own error? Do they pay their share (either in sweat or cash)? Do they lie? It doesn't have to be hardcore, but with the wrong people it is.

- "Is it possible to partner early without formal agreements?" Sure, but again, with or without contracts, it all comes down to relationships. Contracts are a fail-safe, in case things goes wrong. Having a contract doesn't mean people will abide by the contract. When things go wrong, a contract is nothing more than a piece of paper that can use in court. Until you go to court and judgement is made people can do a lot of things that have nothing to do with the contract.

That's why the more important thing you need when partnering with someone is a healthy approach to work and a good relationship.

In general it is hard to find a good partner, especially for a first venture, it is easier when you have a network and people you worked with in a client relationship, and then they usually bring more to the table than sweat equity, or pure cash.

margarina72··on What Is Open Source?
> Free and open source software movements have no shortage of problematic unempathetic leaders

True of democracy, True in the business-world, True in religion, True in philosophy... People are not code, so open source can define a licence but when people are interacting with each other, there will always be problematic people.

margarina72··on Building a robust frontend using progressive enhancement
it depends which release of the english language you are using
margarina72··on Building a robust frontend using progressive enhancement
Nobody got fired for building an app in React? When something is an accepted as an industry standard, it's safe to make a decision that goes with the flow. Also, nobody is doing devrel for html/css/vanilla js - if you search how to do things you will find nearly only exclusively framework related content.
margarina72··on Building a community for software product builders
it seems that's a recurring theme:

they also tend to close quickly... but hey good luck with yours!

margarina72··on Show HN: Hyperdiv – Reactive, immediate-mode web UI framework for Python
This is really cool, I wish I could already use it in production. I will wait until we can add/modify components, but this looks really awesome.
margarina72··on Ledger
Do you have a good guide to start that you could recommend? It sounds quite simple when you mention it, but every time I tried to get started with Ledger with or without emacs, it always seemed too much of an undertaking and stalled pretty early... if you have a good workflow to recommend, that would be very helpful.
margarina72··on Seniors spend the equivalent of 3 weeks a year on health care, study says
Let me guess, France?
margarina72··on Open source AI is critical – Hugging Face CEO before US Congress
This sounds correct. My only hope is since AI will be regulated in the US, there is still a chance that given other countries do not have the same leverage as the US, they will keep AI unregulated as a way to avoid being controlled by the US.
margarina72··on Generate invoices from the command line
Love it.

Would be great if we could integrate this with some go template language, would make customization easier.

margarina72··on Ways to say no with grace and style (2021)
It has to do with how resources are allocated (both human and financial resources). It creates a very unhealthy environment where relationships and who has your back or not has more influence than the actual work you are able to deliver.
margarina72··on Ask HN: Is SQLAlchemy the industry standard Python ORM in 2023?
The short answer is yes, it is.

Aside for Django projects.

I would also point to SQLModel[1] by the same dev who made FastAPI

But it is just wrapper on top of SQLAlchemy.

margarina72··on Google no longer automatically indexes websites?
well, I can't say for everyone but I did notice that google stopped indexing a few sites I manage. No technical reason, no error, just says "Not indexed - reason: Discovered - currently not indexed" and that's most of the content of the site (nothing fancy mostly technical articles, and others notes) Unclear why this is happening.
margarina72··on Aspiring partners accuse Apple of copying their ideas
Apple built hardware, like many others manufacturers, and then used the app store, which is a glorified index with a locked gateway mechanism, to control which software get used on the hardware they sell.

They didn't build an ecosystem more than others, they just made sure to kill any potential competitive ecosystem on the same hardware.

margarina72··on Show HN: Web0.cc – Generate clutter, ad and tracker free article pages to share
would be nice
margarina72··on Hypertext Emacs: You may not need org-mode
org-mode is a markdown like language. In itself it doesn't have anything special. But the ecosystem of integration in emacs makes it a very rich experience. Both the UX of integration (seemless idea capture, outline manipulations etc.) and the breadth of application (email writing, gantt generation, accounting compute and reporting, RSS reading and sorting, slide presentations, agenda integration, time card reporting, invoice generation etc.) in combination it becomes a very hard to describe experience, precisely because it is so rich and varied while at the same time very streamlined because everything is text, and it all behave intuitively.
