marcoamorales··on KeepassXC – A cross-platform community fork of KeepassX
Holy shit, this has actually been such a problem for me in the past. To the point where I actually had "read-only" copies of the db to avoid any corruption or password loss.
marcoamorales··on Red Hat is buying Ansible
What are you buying when the technology is open source?
marcoamorales··on Beware of sudo on OS X
Don't call a security flaw a UX feature please.
marcoamorales··on On Linux, 'less' can probably get you owned
You can run Skype inside a docker container: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/skype#Docker
marcoamorales··on An Ansible Tutorial
I'm not sure what bootstrapping overhead you're talking about. You can do a knife bootstrap to bootstrap nodes, not sure about puppet.
marcoamorales··on Mitro Releases a New Free and Open Source Password Manager
The server are probably getting hammered.
marcoamorales··on Mitro Releases a New Free and Open Source Password Manager
If I can host my own server, this sounds like a very promising solution.
marcoamorales··on Mail-in-a-box: easy to set up modern SMTP/SMTPS server stack
I wouldn't say that Rackspace intentionally submits their IP blocks for DNS blacklisting. Consider that on Rackspace's cloud you can build a cloud server and you will get a 'recycled' IP from their block. This IP could had been used by other people for other purposes. You never know who could've used your IP for what purposes. Having those blocks blacklisted makes sense when you think of that.
marcoamorales··on PowerPointless: Digital slideshows are the scourge of higher education
I'm curious to know why you think it's a really step forward in the presentation world. All I can think of is that stuff moves around the screen all around.

marcoamorales··on How I Read Programming Books
For anyone reading to acquire knowledge, or to learn new things, may I recommend How To Read A Book by Charles Van Doren, Mortimer Adler.
marcoamorales··on GNU sed 4.2.2 released, maintainer resigns
They do overlap, but Open Source Initiative doesn't care at all about users' freedoms, which I personally believe to be very important.
marcoamorales··on GNU sed 4.2.2 released, maintainer resigns
As someone who shares beliefs with FSF's ideals, reading this rant makes me think that maybe there's a chance to bring up another movement with the relative same ideals as Free Software but have a different type of leadership.
marcoamorales··on Richard Stallman calls Ubuntu “spyware” because it tracks searches
So they know when you are searching to disable it, huh?
marcoamorales··on Elon Musk - The Future of Energy and Transport [video]
Wasn't the possibility of terraforming Mars debunked a while ago?
marcoamorales··on Google Launches Ingress, a Worldwide Mobile Alternate Reality Game
I've been wanting to play some ARG since I read Little Brother, can't wait to try this out.
marcoamorales··on Legalising marijuana: the view from Mexico
I'm from Mexico, and I can tell you what is happening here is worrisome. The death toll during Calderon's presidency is way over the roof. He declared war to the cartel's like no one had ever dared to do. This caused a big uproar because know there's a real problem with trying to keep your safe route of drugs.

I'm also pro legislation (have never consumed anything) and the only thing that worries me more than what is happening right now is that maybe, with legislation, cartel's are going to jump to the next profitable illegal activity they can find (kidnapping, extorsion, whatever). I've lived in the same city all my life, and for the last 2 years, for the first time ever, I don't feel safe anymore. When I see soldiers driving around town with their hummer-esque vehicles, I can't find tranquility.

Reading this article gives me some peace, but I can't find any real assurance that this will stop any soon.

marcoamorales··on Are Those Spidery Black Things On Mars Dangerous?
I'm glad I'm not the anyone who noticed this. I don't know if those are just a few millimeters or several meters.
marcoamorales··on Ask HN: what is a good spot to work in New York?
That's the library where Carl Sagan recorded a segment for Cosmos right? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0E0yzMgqOUg
marcoamorales··on Google Bans Online Anonymity While Patenting It
Apple patented a rectangle, and I haven't seen much rise in awareness.
marcoamorales··on Elon Musk: "I would like to die on Mars"
There's definitely a notorious difference from the young Steve Jobs to the older Steve Jobs.
marcoamorales··on Elon Musk: "I would like to die on Mars"
Jobs was never a cool guy in my book. For me, Steve Jobs was an egocentric and self-centered. Elon is a visionary, just read this quote:

“I came to the conclusion that we should aspire to increase the scope and scale of human consciousness in order to better understand what questions to ask. Really, the only thing that makes sense is to strive for greater collective enlightenment.”

Steve isn't even near to the impact of what Elon will have on humanity.

It was posted a week ago actually, but the point still stands.
marcoamorales··on MIT and Harvard announce edX
We still face a problem, which is inevitable when you can teach the masses. Some people, especially the poor, don't understand the importance of education. In poor countries, teenagers don't have time to study, because they have to make a living.

But I'm happy we are advancing, I believe education is the foundation of everything, so we sure are making some big steps.

marcoamorales··on Udacity goes live
I'm on my Junior year in CS major and I think I will take CS101 on Udacity. Not only do I think Udacity can do a better job than my college, but I think I can learn new things.
