marcelfahle··on Ask HN: What Are You Working On? (December 2025)
Working on Bold (https://boldvideo.com)

Video intelligence platform for coaching programs and training companies. The problem: these businesses sit on 200-500+ hours of video content that becomes a "content graveyard" - students can't find what they need, coaches burn out answering the same questions, churn stays high.

We do deep transcript + metadata extraction, then layer RAG search and an AI assistant that can answer questions with timestamped citations back to the exact video moment. Think "ChatGPT for your video library" but with accurate sources instead of hallucinations. Tech: Phoenix/Elixir backend, Next.js portals, two-tier RAG architecture.

Currently serving a few coaching programs in high-touch sales mode. Would love feedback from anyone who's built RAG systems over media content - curious how others handle the signal extraction problem (transcripts are noisy, you need to identify what's actually being taught vs filler).

marcelfahle··on Show HN: Mazelit - My wife and I released our first game
I love this, looks really well done. I don't have a windows computer or steam deck but just got a copy anyway because I like the whole story and vibe around it. Also great that you offer the source as DLC as well, I will def check it out! I wish you both the best of success with this! :)
marcelfahle··on Ask HN: PG's 'Do Things That Don't Scale' manual examples?
I love this. Ordered!
marcelfahle··on Show HN: I built Vercel Preview Comments as a service for your docs website
This looks neat.. I can definitely relate to gathering feedback on documentation is either a mess or non-existent. Good stuff!
marcelfahle··on Show HN: PodText.ai – Search anything said on a podcast, highlight text to play
Looks very cool! Besides the search, which works great and feels like a powerful tool, I like how snappy the word highlighting is in the transcripts. Can you elaborate a bit on how that's done? Thank you, this is really great work!
marcelfahle··on YouTube Transcript – read YouTube videos
Thank you, this is really interesting! :)
marcelfahle··on YouTube Transcript – read YouTube videos
Wow, this looks incredible! Love how the underline travels and guides the eye.. Very impressive!

Excuse the question, but "forced alignment" is when you don't have timestamps, like in webvtt?

marcelfahle··on Whisper – open source speech recognition by OpenAI
As interesting as it is funny. Great benchmark! Here's the rev.ai output for comparison:

Speaker 0 00:00:12 Oh, fuck motherfucker. Okay. Fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck.
 My little fuck.
Speaker 1 00:02:10 Oh, fuck. Oh, fuck,
Speaker 0 00:02:25 Fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck my motherfucker.
  Speaker 1 00:02:53 Fucking a.
  Speaker 0 00:02:54 Mm-hmm. <affirmative> motherfucker. Fuck me. Um,
marcelfahle··on One dead and nine wounded after accident with self-driving car
fun headline if it's not even clear if the driver was driving or not.

> Whether the vehicle was driven by the 43-year-old driver or not is the subject of the investigation and is currently unknown, a police spokesperson said on Tuesday. The cause of the accident remains unclear.

marcelfahle··on MacBook Pro with i9 chip is throttled due to thermal issues, claims YouTuber
Same here. 2014 maxed out, doesn't do well in the spanish summer. External screen mostly stays disconnected, otherwise it throttles down after 30 mins.. Are there not some kind of cooling pads to help with this shit?
marcelfahle··on macOS High Sierra: Anyone can login as “root” with empty password
OK, I guess when doing OP's root trick, the root user gets activated/created, and that's that's when the PW gets set to empty. I guess that's where my passwordLastSetTime comes from.
marcelfahle··on macOS High Sierra: Anyone can login as “root” with empty password
My root pw passwordLastSetTime says this morning.. the fuck??

Discord is pretty snappy, even with tons of users..
marcelfahle··on Street food chef's stall becomes world's first to earn Michelin star
I agree. The stall Bourdain went to, across the street at Maxwell's, has always super long queues. Not 90 mins but still a pain. I'm glad most of the other stalls are usually not far off on their quality..
marcelfahle··on Street food chef's stall becomes world's first to earn Michelin star
Most of the food stalls in Singapore and elsewhere are closed one day per week.
marcelfahle··on Show HN: Learn English with movies and TV Shows
I did, and still do the same thing. I can't even recall how many times I watched friends, entourage or deadwood. (I'm a Kraut, too, by the way). It helps massively, especially with slang. I want to do the same thing now for spanish.

Edit: Oh, and I still watch everything with captions, in case I missed something or there are words I didn't know.

marcelfahle··on Help us to unfuck online publishing
Geez, that looks tight! Can you tell us something about the stack?
marcelfahle··on [dead]
Ha, something like that wouldn't surprise me these days. Of course I signed up for the mailing list, looking forward to more exciting 'product announcements'.
marcelfahle··on Heroku's new $50 and $100 per month database plans
Damn, this is nice! Thanks Heroku! I love the service, but 200 bucks as the lowest price point for a dedicated db didn't always make sense to me, especially in the startup world. This changes everything.
marcelfahle··on 55,000 Twitter passwords leaked
these people all have pretty sophisticated passwords. :]
marcelfahle··on Building a Product: One month later, $119.50 in the bank
Great story and great advice. Congrats on the app! I love when people not just talk and actually execute.
marcelfahle··on Codestre.am: streaming your code to the masses
Very cool. I can see me using it for all things I need to remember in the future..

Haha, nice timing, I just got in from NY.. I actually might!
marcelfahle··on My experience with a 'negative review' scammer.
Interesting story. Well, this Brian guy is an idiot ("You unfollowed me. I insulted your tea. Now go away!"). Really?? But what I like most is the last comment on teatra: "Reviewers who judge about a tea quality from the point of someones followunfollow in twitter is… well such people earn 5bucks a week. Period." Nuff said :)

By the way, I need to try that stuff. Cheers from Hong Kong.
