Best news of the past few days.

This is one of the protos that's been held hostage in the Stamper's collection.

Steam used to be steamgames.com, too.
manytimesaway··on Starbase, LA
Isn't that wholesale which does not always land to customer sales? Honestly I don't know much about all of this.
manytimesaway··on Starbase, LA
Yeah that was a quick sumup based on the fact that the parent was not posting in good faith. Thanks for the precision.
manytimesaway··on Starbase, LA
No it's not. It was the most sold during March, but that's it.

Local sources (https://www.autohome.com.cn/hangye/showroom/) tend to show that it's Xiaomi / Geely that's leading the race in 2026.

Additionally, sales numbers doesn't correlate with the brand image of Tesla : it is a luxury brand, no matter how you put it.

manytimesaway··on Quake Shareware, a CD-ROM just a little too full
It's been scalped on announcement, sadly. Sold out everywhere.
manytimesaway··on A True Telnet BBS on a Casio Calculator
These are not calculators, but pocket computers. Different markets (one crashed, the other still exists) with different hardware.
manytimesaway··on How to Increase OpenBSDs Resilience to Power Outages
Honest question: Am I the only one bothered by the fact that this author puts her name absolutely everywhere on her posts? Feels very ego-trippy.
manytimesaway··on As AI grips world, the thrill of collecting vintage computers is growing
>AI/ML myopia is about as useful as Linux-myopia was in the 90's.

Not only is this argument a copycat of cryptobro discourse, but considering that the first truly usable Linux release was in 1999 and no one expected what was bound to happen with Solaris, this is bollocks at-best.

>Its here, its not going anywhere, it is getting widespread adoption.

Getting shoved up in everyone's lives does not mean adoption. Nobody makes money out of this (except the Nvidia ponzi) yet, so that's a bold assumption.

>accurate, timely, and well delivered products

Have yet to see one 100% vibe-slopped thing that features these criteria and isn't an abomination of maintenance.

>You've made your decision. You're kicking your own ass.

And proud of it! ;)

manytimesaway··on As AI grips world, the thrill of collecting vintage computers is growing
I enjoy retrocomputing a lot, being a huge part of my life.

I do not want to see advancements made by a technology I truly despise. I'd rather see less impressive, handmade projects (therefore, more impressive) rather than slop.

Feel free to kick my ass.

manytimesaway··on The title cards in Blade Runner are amazing
His entire discography is worth a listen, honestly. Gems absolutely everywhere, and deep knowledge of his (traveling!) studio.
manytimesaway··on The title cards in Blade Runner are amazing
As we say in another language, "you should probably get your ears cleaned".

Besides the Blade Runner & Chariots of Fire soundtracks (two masterpieces of albums, which is two more than 90% of the world), his repertoire is filled with instant electronic classics, such as Earth, Albedo 0.39, Spiral, and l'Apocalypse des Animaux.

I'm not even mentioning Aphrodite's Child.

manytimesaway··on Half-Life ported to Mac OS 9
Example discussion here : https://github.com/FWGS/xash3d-fwgs/issues/63#issuecomment-9...

HN comment from a major maintainer here : https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=38314427

Valve has confirmed that it violates the HLSDK EULA, too. At least for the original Xash3D release.

manytimesaway··on Half-Life ported to Mac OS 9
Xash3D is not really open-source. The original codebase comes from leaked/decompiled code, and nowadays still requires the proprietary HLSDK to build.
manytimesaway··on PGSimCity - How PostgreSQL Works
>how do you know it has been vibe-coded?

Another comment mentioned the total number of tokens used, confirmed with the git history. But most importantly : it uses the exact same CSS as every other vibe-coded app, with the same fonts & spacing.

>And why does it matter?

Because I don't want to use nor recommend vibe-coded stuff. Simple enough.

manytimesaway··on PGSimCity - How PostgreSQL Works
Besides the sadly obvious vibe-coding, just note that SimCity is still an active trademark from EA, so might be good to rename it.
manytimesaway··on Government orders GitHub to remove Bluetooth-based chat app Bitchat: Jack Dorsey

..what? Condoms are not outlawed there, are they?

manytimesaway··on The small, real, original web
The era of MSN, MySpace and self/ISP-hosted pages didn't feel like gatekeeping at all; sure, there was some privilege involved (internet access still is a privilege in 2026), but there was less shame about attempting stuff.
manytimesaway··on The small, real, original web
Quite ironic to post this on a platform that uses 1/4 of the screen for advertisement and a drowning GDPR prompt. (Also the CSS makes it tedious to read on a computer.)

Why the refusal of Mullvad, though?

manytimesaway··on The creepiest 'sales demo' of all time
(nice username)

Patriot Act, FISA, Cloud Act allows the USA to basically impose its justice over other countries. And it's never in the interest of its citizens.

manytimesaway··on The creepiest 'sales demo' of all time
So we're supposed to deal with your bullshit Patriot Act while GDPR is too "random" for you?
manytimesaway··on A Love Letter to Flashcards
