manny··on Pandora: From near-death to profitability in a year
just putting out there that pandora totally crushes deezer and last.fm when it comes to music selection for artists or songs you enter in.
manny··on New owners of eBaum's World fire ebaum and his staff
are people still seriously thinking that this economic crises was because of greedy CEOs and capitalism?

Jesus Christ. :|

manny··on Here comes Britannica 2.0
"Would-be editors on the Britannica site will have to register using their real names and addresses before they are allowed to modify or write their own articles."

And thats why its going to fail.

manny··on Ask HN: What to do with a spare linux box?
I was also thinking of maybe doing that Folding@Home stuff.
manny··on Ask HN: Which school do you attend?
State University of New York at Stony Brook
manny··on 'Atlas Shrugged': From Fiction to Fact in 52 Years
I wish I could upmod you twice.
manny··on Data Analysts Captivated by Power of R
I can't believe nobody here has mentioned PDL, the Perl Data Language: http://pdl.perl.org

Admittedly, i think R and PDL do different things... (I have never played with R).

manny··on The End of the Financial World as We Know It
>> Really, really, really real free markets never seem to exist, though.

What, pray tell, do you think the black market is?

manny··on The Map of Science: a directed citation graph showing the interdependence of fields
Mathematics and chemistry need to be bigger.

Hell, maybe they are and its really the map that is inaccurate...

manny··on If programming languages were religions
well. someone doesn't like Perl.

Sheesh!

manny··on Every book that Art Garfunkel (from Simon and Garfunkel) has ever read
No, the books he likes seem to require way more intellect than the average book on Oprah's book club.
manny··on The Mouse And The Rectangle
wow. That was amazing.
manny··on Seemywhere.com
its a bit confusing at first, i'll admit.

I think the premise is that alot of people sign up (with usernames they choose) and then give that username out to friends and family so people can see where they are...

A sort of twitter-meets-GPS(?) except not as cool as twitter or GPS. :|

manny··on How Old Is Your Work Computer?
My work "PC" is a Dell Insprion 1501 laptop with a blazingly fast (/sarcasm) AMD sempron 1800 with 256M RAM.

Does everything I need it to. Then again, I run dwm and only terminal apps save for firefox...

manny··on Original Grim Fandango design document released [pdf]
THE greatest game ever.
manny··on Jim Hefferon's Linear Algebra: A free textbook with fascinating applications
Looking at the Table of Contents it seems fairly decent.

The most helpful Linear Algebra book I have used is Linear Algebra by Friendberg, Insel, and Spence.

manny··on Cybercrime Supersite 'DarkMarket' Was FBI Sting, Documents Confirm

manny··on Mafiaboy Grows Up; a Hacker Seeks Redemption
Agreed. My first reaction was to post here that this guy is nothing but a script kiddie.

Glad to know someone beat me to the punch.

manny··on Rules of Logo Design
Was I the only one who read this as "Rules of Lego Design" only to have my excitement crushed into a fine powder?
manny··on Edward O. Wilson: Marx was right, he had the wrong species
For all those who are hating on the free-market and greed and selfishness, I advise you to check out Ayn Rand's collection of essays compiled into a book called The Virtue of Selfishness.

manny··on The deep Perl gotcha
The comments are worth reading. Heh.
manny··on Search less, understand more: Evri goes live
Wow. I really like this.
manny··on Economics in One Lesson
This was required reading in my Econ 101 Class.

A must read. However, a caveat: this book, along with Carl Menger's Principles of Economics, will turn you into what some might call a "[Ron] Paulite".

Then again, some see that a term of endearment. ;p

manny··on Using GNU's GDB Debugger
Add me to the list of people who had previously used a deluge of printf()s.

I've always wanted to be a gdb guru but it just seemed a little mystical and unnecessary. But this tutorial seems like it gets to the point so I'll start reading it tonight. Thanks for the link.

manny··on Poll: Would you like to see this site become CS/Startup related only?
isn't hacking a subset of the intellectually stimulating?
manny··on In Pictures: America's Fastest-Dying Cities
"Where Some See Crisis, Others See Opportunity..."
manny··on Hackers' Screenshots
I've documented mine on Gentoo forums: http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-692590-highlight-dwm.ht...
manny··on Build Your Own Nasa Apollo Landing Computer (no kidding)
There's something moderately worthwhile about being the first person to write a replica of the "Hello, World." program.

But I see nothing remotely worthwhile about being the second, using plans put together by the first.

manny··on A course of pure mathematics, by G.H. Hardy (full text online)
Another book to read that I recommend to all my friends: An Introduction to Mathematical Reasoning: Numbers, Sets and Functions by Peter J. Eccles.

You can find it on Amazon.
