I 100% agree with this. I have great respect for Singapore and all the achievements of that country. But I also tell people to be mindful of the fact that it's a city state and an island.

Between OpenCode and Openrouter which one would you suggest? Sometimes I have pure grunt work to be done on non-sensitive data for which I want to use Chinese models. For example, tasks like extracting something from publicly available large pdf files.

The point is to learn good practices from China.
malshe··on ASML says it sold 'absolutely nothing' in Europe in 2026
If India is 10 years behind China, that would mean in 2036 India will be where China is today. What's the chance of that happening?

Only an estimated 6 million Indians work in IT and tech services where the money is. India's working age population is approximately 950 million. India had the golden opportunity to bring manufacturing to India when Western companies wanted to reduce their dependence on China. But it wasted it.

I don't know where you are getting that 30% spending on infrastructue.

> I wish that the EU did the same as China did years ago, and that is to block any non-EU tech company from entering the market. We could have had the Google/Meta equivalent years ago.

You can do it even today. But you can't bring back manufacturing from China. You gave them your techology and the market.

If Indians could change their caste officially, everybody would be lower caste. In fact there are often protests and agitations by members of certain upper castes to label them lower caste. See this for an example: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maratha_reservation_agitation

> a little behind China on the same trajectory

In my opinion, India is around 30 years behind China. This is unlikely to change for several reasons. However, the primary reason is that no Indian government ever had a manufacturing policy that comes close to China's. The service economy is strong but employs a tiny percentage of the population.

Most of Indian government spending is on welfare followed by endemic corruption. It leaves very little money for nation building.

malshe··on Amazon blocks Meta’s new Muse AI agent from shopping on amazon.com
It's possible that it's location specific. We have a Whole Foods nearby so Amazon invariably shows me Amazon Fresh products. I remember once I even added a lime to the cart because my total was $24.99 and it wanted me to make it $25.
malshe··on Amazon blocks Meta’s new Muse AI agent from shopping on amazon.com
I don't care about Meta even one bit so more power to Amazon. At the same time, Amazon is going downhill at an alarming rate. Is anyone else annoyed by the no name brands flooding every product listing there? There is no way to even enunciate the freaking names! How am I supposed to trust them?

The other issue is overpromising delivery times and vastly underperforming once the order is placed. The worst is when I purchase something that I want urgently. Let's say the price is $23. Amazon suggests buying something cheap to make it $25 and get overnight delivery. So I add some Chobani product from Amazon Fresh. The next morning I wake up to see Chobani delivered while the item I want is delayed until the next day. This has happened 3-4 times now so I have become wiser. But what a crappy customer experience from Amazon!

When was this? I lived in a condo at walking distance from Orchard station for a couple of years and never had the feeling that I was paying more for the cab. I also lived in other less affluent areas so I had a good idea about how much it should cost.

Fable 5.1 even today inundates prose with "it's not this, it's that" type of garbage. I had to rewrite two paragraphs from a generic class announcement which I was planning to post on the LMS. Not sure where that productivity gain is that everyone is talking about.
