malobre··on A couple CSS tricks for HTML Dialog elements

malobre··on Firefox 133
I love the new sidebar + vertical tabs, although it does not seem to be available to everybody: https://connect.mozilla.org/t5/discussions/sidebar-and-verti...
malobre··on Ask HN: What's the best documentation site you've come across?
My only gripe with the Stripe docs is that it can be slow to load / render. But the content and presentation is very good.
malobre··on Ask HN: What's the best documentation site you've come across?
I love the Arch Wiki, when switching between distros I often end up looking at the Pacman/Rosetta [0], which "display the correspondence of package management commands".

malobre··on Modifying the OG Xbox to have 256M of RAM [video]
I remember buying Skyrim VR, only for it to be unplayable without modding because the physics is tied to the FPS and anything above 60 Hz would send objects flying everywhere (including the carriage in the intro sequence).
malobre··on GNU Stow needs a co-maintainer
Looks great! Seems like GNU Stow inspired many devs, especially around the dotfiles use case
malobre··on GNU Stow needs a co-maintainer
A few years ago I read a blog post [0] on using GNU Stow to manage your dotfiles, I loved the idea and it inspired me to create xdot, a minimalist dotfiles manager [1] which I have been using ever since.

malobre··on Biome 1.5: fast Prettier and ESLint alternative
I've been using biome/rome for over a year and it's getting pretty good. The rebranding looks great !

I can't wait for HTML support :)

Edit: I would love to see an equivalent to ESLint's no-floating-promises, but I believe this is blocked since the linter is not type aware (yet?).

malobre··on Ask HN: Who needs help this holidays?
Was in a tight spot for the end of the year, he gifted 1k EUR. Thank you so much
malobre··on Last Call to Migrate Mojang Accounts
I bought the game in 2011 (iirc), I guess they could justify this with the "Other" section of the terms of use [1]:

"We reserve the right to change this agreement at any time with or without notice, with immediate and/or retroactive effect."

No idea if this is enforceable in the US/EU.

malobre··on The Future of CSS: CSS Toggles
> What I'd like to see is a site-wide css-only toggle to switch between dark and light mode.

Isn't it what `prefers-color-scheme` [0] is for ?

In his 2020 article about wireless charging inefficiency [0], Eric Ravenscraft wrote:

malobre··on Spiders are much smarter than you think
I can also recommend "Children of time", it's a really good sci-fi book. There's a sequel called "Children of Ruin", but I can't comment on it as I haven't finished reading it.
malobre··on Motion One: The Web Animations API for Everyone
The landing page looks amazing!
malobre··on What Does My Site Cost?
I think I have the same plan as you (Free 10G-EPON + 5G ?), I've seen lots of posts about broadband / mobile subscription and while prices do seems a bit higher than in Europe what shocks me the most is data caps on home internet.
malobre··on Tour de France: Police search for missing fan who caused crash with sign
Hi from Brittany !

Our flag was inspired by the US star spangled banner around 100 years ago. There's a running joke that wherever there's a demonstration you'll be able to see someone fly the Gwenn-ha-du.

Check the wikipedia page [0], it's quite interesting.

malobre··on Modern Javascript: Everything you missed over the last 10 years (2020)
The page HTML is weird, there's no `<html>`, `<head>` or `<body>`.
malobre··on Cox Hotspots with Panoramic Wifi
NB: You can turn off the hotspot but you'll lose the ability to use others subscribers hotspot, and unlike some ISPs (according to this thread) they won't turn it back on.
malobre··on Open source Heroku Like Platform on premises
I investigated a little bit and it was a problem with certificates, the internal error message was "could not resolve kube integration (x509)". I was using a single-node k8s cluster hosted on Digital Ocean that I created myself.

I'm a beginner when it comes to k8s so I ended up just provisioning from the dashboard, everything's working now :)

malobre··on Open source Heroku Like Platform on premises
Looks great, However I'm getting an error while setting up:

  $ porter connect kubeconfig
Error: code 500, errors [could not write to database]

malobre··on Designing a RISC-V CPU, Part 1
You should check out Robert Baruch[1] on YouTube, he has a very interesting series on designing a RISC-V cpu where he also uses nMigen.

malobre··on 90-year-old man spends $10k on 2 ads in WSJ to tell AT&T CEO about slow internet
I max out at around 1 Gbps on steam, although I think I might be bottlenecked by my cpu for decompression. Servers that allows clients to pull 8Gbps are very rare.

Torrenting linux iso is indeed very fast :)

malobre··on 90-year-old man spends $10k on 2 ads in WSJ to tell AT&T CEO about slow internet
GBps != Gbps

Bytes != bits

malobre··on 90-year-old man spends $10k on 2 ads in WSJ to tell AT&T CEO about slow internet
I'm living in france too, I pay 40€/mo (~$48) for ~8Gbps fiber.
malobre··on RFC 1178: Choosing a name for your computer (1990)
It's funny it is exactly what I did on my LAN, Hydrogen being my router and so on.
malobre··on My product is my garden
"Putter" is an alternative spelling.
malobre··on Why cats are crazy for catnip
Source ?

According to https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5356310/ only around a third of cats does not respond to catnip.
