majurg··on A decade after debut, first A380 jumbos to be broken up
Consumers preferring point-to-point air travel killed the A380.
majurg··on How to Raise Brilliant Children
Easy to do, if you're rational that is
majurg··on Ask HN: What's your favorite, cheap throwaway computer?
Old MacBooks, just because I like osx.
majurg··on Ask HN: What small websites do you frequently use/visit?
I use this all the time, it's great.
majurg··on Ask HN: What did you pay for firstnamelastname.com
$10
majurg··on Ask HN: How do you encrypt your laptops?
Why not just regularly back up your machine? I wouldn't expect apple store techs to recover my data anyway if I had to bring in a machine for repairs.
majurg··on Ask HN: Do you (developers) manage your own servers?
Yes, but we are a small group with modest needs.
majurg··on Ask HN: Best 24“ external monitor (brand) for Macbook Pro?
Dell ultrasharp
majurg··on Google Pumps $2B into Africa’s Biggest Wind Power Project
That infographic left out Alaska, Canada and Mexico.
majurg··on Cannabis Access and Academic Performance
Not true at all. Out side of progressive areas like major coastal cities posession of marijuana can in some cases be a felony offense. Contrary to what you have stated, people ARE arrested regularly for simple possession of the drug, almost always meaning very limited life prospects in the future.
majurg··on Ask HN: What are you reading?
after the future - bifo
majurg··on Ask HN: How much does your startup cost?
9 mil is nothing to scoff at. Sell it and start a new company, or work out deal where you continue to work on the product if you simply cannot part with it.

All hypothetical of course =)

majurg··on Ask HN: How do you invest?
bitcoin
majurg··on Does anyone here run their PC without antivirus?
The only AV 'software' I use is Common Sense™. That and frequent backups have been pretty effective so far.

YMMV though...

majurg··on Making of Aprilzero
Pretty sure JS is the brunt of the visualizations, etc.
majurg··on Ask HN: Why doesn't Microsoft release Windows 7 for free?
Enterprise I would think. Volume license fees probably make up a good chunk of revenue for microsoft.
majurg··on Ask HN: What are your thoughts about 'Everyone Should Learn How To Code'?
The saying "Everyone should learn how to write" is the same sort of thing. It would be great if more people were able to write well, but the reality is one must put in some effort to be effective at any skill.

Should everyone learn how to code? It would be nice/cool if everyone did, but it is probably not plausible.

majurg··on Ask HN: What do you do for a living?
IT client support...
majurg··on Ask HN: Should I drop out of college to go work at a startup?
I like your style
majurg··on Ask HN: What is your least favorite part of your favorite language?
iOS?
majurg··on Mac Pros, Ara, and Modularity
Getting a degree in engineering means you're and engineer? He just said he works as an engineer for Microsoft...
majurg··on Can We Ditch The Headphone Jack?
Cool I guess, as long as sound quality is not degraded.

On the plus side, something like this would probably take a lot of stress off the headphone cables when you accidentally jerk them.

majurg··on Users complain their Dell 6430u laptops smell like cat piss
Yep, at work we were going thru some old powerbooks prepping them for e-waste and the keyboards had that BO smell.

Apparently its the glue used in the keyboard, or something like that.

majurg··on Ask HN: What subscriptions do you use (and pay for)?
fastmail, itunes match
majurg··on Why I Stick with the Linux Desktop
Those are all very basic functions. Let me know when I can produce Pro level audio work on a Linux machine without hiccups.
majurg··on Soylent: Manufacturing Update
Its kinda expensive, $255 for a month?
majurg··on Where Have All the Geniuses Gone?
This is why I love articles online!
majurg··on Does anyone have the same problem as me regarding ATT customer service?
Oh man, AT&T is my worst enemy. I have only dealt with their cell phone division, but in store and on the phone the customer service is awful. The manager at an AT&T store lied to my face just to get me out the door, as did a customer service provider I talked to over the phone.

The nickel and diming they do to their customers is crazy, and its kinda sad the competition is so similar (at least from what I gather from friends). Capitalism at its finest, right?

majurg··on Boston Dynamics Unleashes Wildcat, the Sprinting Quadruped Robot
I guess you could strap a bomb to the thing and send it off towards the enemy. I could see it carrying ammo or other supplies to soldiers scattered on a battlefield.
majurg··on Ask HN: Should I join? Great Product, Well Funded, Mediocre Team
I say take it, unless you are currently employed elsewhere. It can't be worse than unemployment, monetarily speaking. Plus, if you don't like the fit you can always leave (unless its a contract situation, etc).
