magic123_··on Bus stops here: Shanghai lets riders design their own routes
A few years back, Citymapper launched a bus line in london where the route was defined based on the amount of data they had about desired paths from their users that were badly covered by the existing network. https://citymapper.com/news/1800/introducing-the-citymapper-...

I didn't follow closely but it looks like the project got canceled, as https://citymapper.com/smartbus returns a 404.

magic123_··on The Impact of Jungle Music in 90s Video Game Development
As always, it depends on what style you're talking about. For mainstream EDM? Sure I won't fight your figure. But for underground techno (among many others), you're delusional if you think the majority of djs play pre-recorded mixes.
magic123_··on Breaking Down OnlyFans' Economics
While I agree with the general sentiment of your comment, the specific example you used is not really relevant: MrBeast is not on twitch, and his revenue comes from youtube ads and brand partnerships. He also has 'classic' merch and several companies (burgers, chocolate bars), but he doesn't bring in any money from subscriptions/donations the way twitch streamers or onlyfan creators do.
magic123_··on Japan’s Temple-Builder Kongō Gumi, Has Survived Nearly 1,500 Years
Just because you know exactly what you mean (which in itself could be questioned), it's just ridiculous to expect anyone else to.

FWIW where I'm from and in my social circles, the other two religions get joked about way more.

magic123_··on Are We Anti-Cheat Yet?
Unfortunately the Overwatch system has been disabled for years, and we currently have no reason to think it will be reopened for CS2.

I take this opportunity to share this great talk about Valve's usage of deep learning to fight cheating in CS:GO: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kTiP0zKF9bc

magic123_··on Side-stepping Skill: Valve forbids hardware automations on CS2
Some context: one of the most important skills to master in CS is "counter-strafing", aka stopping your current movement at the right timing, to have perfect accuracy when shooting. If you're currently strafing right, you have to lift your finger from D and tap A before being able to shoot accurately.

Recently, some hardware manufacturers included features at the firmware level to make this automatic for you: if you currently have D pressed, and just tap A, the keyboard will stop pressing D for you, even if your finger is still on the key. There were a lot of discussion withing the community, and the professional scene, about whether or not these hardware features should be allowed or not, as they remove a big part of what's needed to actually master movement in the game.

Yesterday, Valve stepped in and decided that they wouldn't allow these features, kicking you from servers if you're detected to use them. At initial release it looks like false positives are possible as many people reported getting kicked without using them, but this should be fixed soon. Another issue people have is that they effectively also banned "jumpthrows", aka binds allowing you to throw nades perfectly everytime, a feature that had been allowed (and even somewhat implemented by Valve themselves) for years.

If the objective is to absolutely always avoid reading between the lines, then yes you're correct.

magic123_··on 'Like we were lesser humans': Gaza boys, men recall Israeli arrest, torture
Ironic that you describe what's been going on in gaza for years.
magic123_··on 'Like we were lesser humans': Gaza boys, men recall Israeli arrest, torture
So the logic here is, because 80% of a population living in an open air prison for several decades support attacks on the people oppressing them, they deserve to be tortured?
magic123_··on Valve levels the playing field for Counter-Strike 2 esports

magic123_··on Valve levels the playing field for Counter-Strike 2 esports
Notably, tournament organizers will no longer be able to operate closed leagues where teams pay for their spot and get to be invited to every event, no matter their performances. They also introduce their own ranking algorithm for professional teams.
magic123_··on The new Paris métro
You can buy paper tickets with cash at any metro station in Paris.
magic123_··on Touch Pianist
Ah yes indeed, but I don't think it can be controlled if you're using a physical keyboard. For instance if I play using the keypad on my keyboard, 1 could be pianissimo and 9 fortissimo.
magic123_··on Touch Pianist
Love it! It could be even more awesome if the velocity of each key press had an impact of the volume, that way we could control two properties at once.

magic123_··on Hundreds of thousands trafficked to work as online scammers in SE Asia, says UN
A relative of mine got scammed for tens of thousands of dollars exactly this way. They are college educated, COO of the company they founded in the US, and thought they were just making a new friend over several months after receiving a message that was addressed to them by error.

magic123_··on Threads, an Instagram app
On french facebook there's a whole community that's actually exactly subreddits, it's called "neurchi de [...]" ("neurchi" is "chineur" reversed, which translates to "bargain hunter"). Any niche, or not niche, topic has its neurchi group that range from low hundreds to 100,000+ for some.
magic123_··on French govt. says users of uBlock Origin, Signal etc. are potential terrorists
So should we apply the same thinking with police constantly inciting violence at protests ? At this point anytime there's a major protest in France, I consider it a win if no one in the crowd lost an eye, hand or worse, their life, from the grenades thrown by police.
magic123_··on Apple Vision Pro – Why It May Be Lousy for Watching Movies on a Plane
I think you misunderstood OP's comment, they were talking about _economy class_ in airplanes, not school classes.
magic123_··on How many layers of UI inconsistencies are in Windows 11?
> no one talks about Linux and it’s inconsistencies which are much more significant.

Except that with Linux you actually get to choose the desktop you want to use, and it's very possible to customize it yourself if you don't like the baked-in design.

magic123_··on Spotify CEO renews attack on Apple after Musk's salvo
I technically agree with you, and I'm not saying you were currently doing what I'm about to complain about; but I find very annoying the fact that a lot of people seem to use this line of thinking to justify more or less every shitty decision made by these huge corporations.
magic123_··on Introducing Svelte, and Comparing Svelte with React and Vue (2021)
