It's an open-source pocketable e-paper device with an (Arduino compatible) ATmega, USB transceiver, Real Time Clock, FRAM, and coin cell Li-Ion rechargeable via USB. It also has five buttons along the top. Whole thing should be around 4mm thick. Repo here: http://github.com/Hylian/arducard

Some potential applications: QR codes, barcodes for rewards cards, Google Auth OTP, text terminal for a Raspberry Pi, etc.

I had the "curse of the gifted" throughout high school and am suffering the consequences now (although I'm trying to turn things around). That said, I also had a friend who was an absolute monster. He operated on an entirely higher level of thinking than mine. Slept through class and just had to skim the textbook once to 'get it'. He would finish tests in half the provided time and get perfect marks. I ended up sitting next to him through Chemistry and Physics; we would goof off in class, and then go home and play games much longer than we should have. Then, a test would roll along, and he would get his usual 100 while I would do much, much worse. The way in which he just 'got' things was the source of a lot of malevolence and envy back then, although I've learned from it now.

Wolfram|Alpha does take boolean, but in the notation that Mathematica likes (&&, ||, !, etc). You can also write it out in plain english (NOT A OR B, etc).

I used it to simplify some kmaps for class the other day and it's very nice: prints out a truth table and various types of minimal forms.

Interestingly enough, the HN ranking algorithm takes a bit of an opposite stance, punishing posts that generate too much discussion in proportion to upvotes. Both approaches are valid, depending on what your goals for the community are.

HN's system would rather quickly derank a post that is potentially inflammatory and keep good content on top rather than using comments as a heuristic for community involvement.

It would be nice to see some details beyond just a couple screenshots and a "Download Trial Here!" link. Charging for this kind of thing also seems a bit dishonest.

Are you hosting all the content yourself? If so, there may be legal issues as well as scaling issues. Otherwise, just making this a frontend for existing ddl/xdcc/torrents seems again rather dishonest. I'd personally prefer to go track a download down myself at the quality and sub group that I prefer.

Might be good for people who just want to click and be able to watch a show without the hassle, though.

Pretty neat - there's definitely a market for this kind of thing that extends beyond ownCloud and is easy to set up. Targeting RasPi users initially isn't a bad idea, but I'd like to see support for other architectures as well, as maaarghk says.

A tangential point: I like how the BBS and funding are all integrated within the site.

Programmable caps/resistors are nothing new. I'd be more interested if he had a very high level of polish that would justify the cost of something I could make myself. Either that, or he could better target the Arduino/electronics beginner crowd.

The N900 wasn't all that great as a phone. The OS was buggy and you had to go through hoops to do basic things like send MMS pictures. It wasn't the best phone, but it was an amazing pocket computer at the time. You could load a variety of operating systems and tinker around with it and it had a hardware keyboard.

I'm just playing around with designs/dev boards and building the concept privately at the moment. However, I've gotten some funding for it, and the goal is to get a working prototype out by Spring. If there's enough interest then, I'll work on it full-time over the summer to get a product out.

Indeed, smartphones can do a lot of things, but not one thing particularly well. My original goal with this design was to replace the 'card wallet' apps for phones, as the barcodes never seemed to scan very well through the glass screens. I've narrowed it down since then to be more for toying around with Arduino/e-paper development, at least for this iteration.

Yeah, definitely. The whole point would be to have a completely open hardware design and software library so that people can build off of it.

I'm working on a credit card sized e-paper device. It has an Arduino, USB, Real Time Clock, and a battery, and fits in your wallet. Still doing hardware designs.

Some potential applications:

* Replace all the barcodes in your wallet (loyalty/membership)

* Google Auth TOTP

* QR Codes (links/BTC wallets)

* Interactive nametag

* e-book/text display

* date/time display with wireless phone sync over BTLE

* act as a USB device and display text/notifications from your computer

I'm not completely sure if the use cases are convincing enough - would you buy such a device? This revision won't have any wireless and instead will be focused more towards electronics/Arduino enthusiasts - dead simple to program over USB with provided libraries and documentation. You can use it as an Arduino/e-paper dev board and code neat apps for it that you can actually use.
