mads··on Show HN: Caddy v2.5.0
I agree. I really liked Caddy, when I used it a while back, but the documentation did stand out as being particularly in need of some love.
mads··on Russia asks China for military and economic aid to help in Ukraine
Seems like everyone is committing credibility suicide these days.
mads··on Nuclear war? Russia's Lavrov says: I don't believe so
Putin might actually believe this alternate reality he is living in. The people around him too..
mads··on Z (Military Symbol)
I saw a picture yesterday, where one of those dystopian Moscow riot police people in full gear had the symbol on his helmet.
mads··on A simple system I’m using to stay in touch with hundreds of people
If I got a message like that, I would wonder which kind of sausage app or Like-Facebook-for-X development project, you wanted to peddle on me this time.
mads··on Heart-disease risk soars after Covid, even with a mild case
I ran a marathon last time in September. In January I caught Omicron and now I feel a slight leg burn, when walking the stairs to second floor. This has never happened before.
mads··on Decompiled 2022 Beijing Olympics Apps
And stuff like "Eighty-eight bloody cases" and "CIBS overseas immigration investment". I really wonder how they ended up there and the story behind.
mads··on Decompiled 2022 Beijing Olympics Apps
Well, the permissions requested on Android seem kind of excessive for an app like this.

mads··on We purchased a machine from China and it came with malware preinstalled
I worked in a factory, where all the pc’s were infected with malware - at the production line too. This would have the unfortunate effect that when we wanted to flash calibration data to the device, malware would write itself to it because the way we would write the data was to a special section of the eMMC that would get mounted as a drive - malware detected a new drive and copied itself. We only discovered it because sometimes the devices wouldn’t boot - I think it took 3 days of nonstop debugging to figure it out. They thought we were crazy, when we finally tried to convince them that something was not right with their setup.

That was a large factory in China. I remember Philips had a production line there also.

mads··on Order your rapid tests from the USPS (US only)
Are those tests hard to come by in the US? They sell those tests everywhere here where I am in Scandinavia in supermarkets and on gas stations. They are something like $5.
mads··on Mysterious Drone Incursions Confirmed over Sweden's Nuclear Facilities
The video shows a light in the sky. If this was some clandestine operation, would the drone really be lighting up and drawing attention to itself like that?
mads··on Scientists believed Covid leaked from Wuhan lab, but feared debate could hurt
Somewhere inside a document somewhere there is going to be a forgotten cursor.
mads··on Scientists believed Covid leaked from Wuhan lab, but feared debate could hurt
Indeed... And in creative manners. Here is the report from the visit: https://twitter.com/thejohnsudworth/status/13972233747457065...

Someone really really didn't want anyone near those mines.

mads··on Scientists believed Covid leaked from Wuhan lab, but feared debate could hurt
Well, who says they haven't tried to do that. The 2013 Mojiang mining incident was claimed to be a fungal infection, while it was later proven it was a viral infection.
mads··on Scientists believed Covid leaked from Wuhan lab, but feared debate could hurt
Additionally the closest cave containing any viruses resembling SARS-Cov-2 are 1500 km away from Wuhan.
mads··on On Web3 Infrastructure
Did you just coin the term web4?
mads··on How to Squash and Rebase in Git
Did you every see the commit history of someone trying to fix their Azure DevOps pipeline?
mads··on Why might you run your own DNS server?
I was hacked one single time in my entire 25 year long career. Someone hacked a bind server I was running and installed some sort of bot node. That was in the 90’ies.
mads··on Villages in China all connected to broadband internet service
Need to get that propaganda out into the smallest corner.

My parents in laws don’t have running water, but they got cheap fiber.

mads··on Steam has been banned in China
All the cities you mention are tier one Potemkin cities.

Try go to the country side to see the real China.

For the racism part, I wouldn't say that signs with "no foreigners" in shops are common, but I have seen them a couple of times during my 5 year stay in China.

mads··on What Problem Blockchains Solve
I am genuinely interested in how this problem is solved.

I actually own around 200 frames of a certain movie (bought them from the production company as a way to help sponsor the movie) and I would like to put them up for sale as NFT's, but I dont really see how everyone else could just claim the ownership and do the same.

mads··on Lithuania evacuates its embassy in China
This is also my experience. Except I have seen it a lot with females also. Maybe because my family in law is Chinese I am more exposed to it.

China sure has a lot of empty very loud barrels.

mads··on Do not use Digital Ocean for production
One of our suppliers went bankrupt and left us hanging without proper access to their Digital Ocean account where they were hosting some of the services they had provided for us. I think our account was already configured to have access but only as billing contact or something like that, so we couldn’t do anything besides paying the bills.

I wrote DO and explained them the situation. It took a few days and a bunch of documents back and forth before they managed to let our account have an admin role.

All in all they provided us with pretty good support and we were not a big customer - a few hundred euros a month, I believe.

mads··on Bay Area car owners leaving trunks open while parked amid wave of car break-ins
I once left my wallet in a bar in China. I came back for it a few hours later and it was still there.

Also left my bag with my laptop in a bar in Denmark once and it was there the day after, when I came back looking for it.

mads··on Judge tosses $4.5B deal shielding Purdue's Sackler family from opioid claims
Its great.

Went ahead and read the book by Beth Macy after I saw the show. I enjoyed the show more, I have to say.

mads··on Evergrande has defaulted on its debt, Fitch Ratings says
I think the rural parts of china is driving those stats.
mads··on China removed Lithuania from its customs registry
I keep hearing that argument and I am inclined to believe this is some sort of Chinese propaganda. Walking through the local ikea in Northern Europe for example, I find it’s hard to find anything made in china these days.

I checked the last three pieces of electronics I bought also and none were made in china. One in Thailand and two in Vietnam.

It can’t be food, so not sure which shelves are going to be empty here except for the baskets in the supermarket with cheap junk toys.

mads··on Dask – A flexible library for parallel computing in Python
Fun fact. The first super computer in Denmark was called DASK. https://amp.ww.en.freejournal.org/2647879/1/dask.html
mads··on Zuckerberg Announces Fantasy World Where Facebook Is Not a Horrible Company
Its neither. Their core product is surveillance.
mads··on China PCR test orders soared before first confirmed Covid case
Now let’s not try to imagine the skeletons in the closets, when it comes to the Chinese economy.
